Exactly. Glen Chabot tore his pec at least twice that I know of.
 
One of the reasons the deadlift so low is that there's no negative beforehand... the stretch reflex is so powerful. I'm sure that if the top deadlifter were allowed to start standing, lower it, and then deadlift it back up, he'd hit 1000 no prob.

An interesting point.

That's also why I don't linger too long with my knees bent when I pull. I try to get something out of the stretch reflex. I bend down, grip, and rip. :D
