Bench: 900

Deadlift: 935
It's so damn interesting to me that the bench is right up there with the deadlift. Hmm ...

One of the reasons I'm passively opposed to bench shirts. The deadlift seems to be pretty much the one "true" lift left in the meets.

What are you talking about???
The lift is a lift, all people are allowed to use the shirt. Noone has the advantage over the others, so it is fine.
I do agree that most of the reason the bench is so high up with the deadlift is cause of the shirts.
Let's not make this into another shirts are bad thread please.

Bro, do you think a deadlift suit helps much on conventional style, or just with sumo? My friend pulls sumo and says he gets a lot from his suit.

If equipment is allowed by rules, and you are competing against other people, then why not use it? Me personally will never use equipment besides a belt and wrist wraps, because I love pure strength... but for others if a shirt will add 200 lbs, and they are allowed to use it.. then why not?

I agree. I guess I wish that raw lifting would be in the spotlight more often. I can't remember seeing any raw benching records posted here, yet I see every 15 lb PR in the shirted bench posted multiple times.

I was thinking of Doyle Kenady - first man to deadlift 900 pounds. He pulled 903lbs in '86. He died in 1999.

Proof again that, what kills you, will make you stronger.
DBCooper said:PLUSA had a good tribute to Doyle Kennedy way back. BTW I don't remember the last time I tried a raw max bench. Reason is I train to compete and that ain't a lift last I remember. You don't see sprinters posting 'no shoes/on concrete pr's or swimmers with pr's with no swim bodysuit or with hair pr's. Every sport has equipment, even belts are better now, equipment gets better and so does the competitor. The reason deadlifting records are slow to come by is because it takes balls- REAL BALLS to fucking pull 9+ and society today has no BALLS! Hell you can't even spank your kids now, let alone make them deadlift. Everyone should be issued a gun and a script for test PERIOD.

Please don't compare power equipment in other sports to that of powerlifting. Shoes are a necessity a bench shirt is not. Shoes won't take off 3 seconds from a 100m sprint whereas as shirt can add 100lb+. For the most part I have no problem with people using them because they're allowed and everyone does it. However I think it's a joke when people say it doesn't add that much or say it's just like wearing football pads etc.

Well, actually there's a pretty high risk of tearing a pec when your raw bench gets into the 600-700 range, so it is a necessity because of safety.
casualbb said:One of the reasons the deadlift so low is that there's no negative beforehand... the stretch reflex is so powerful. I'm sure that if the top deadlifter were allowed to start standing, lower it, and then deadlift it back up, he'd hit 1000 no prob.
