What lengths do you go to to save on gas? (if any?)

Narrow tires would help. What would be the 80-series equivalent to give the same rolling circumference as your present tires? Maybe you could fit the 135/80x15 tires from a Citroen 2CV. That is, if someone makes 4x15 rims to fit a Camry.

maybe he could peddle his bicycle, he lives in the city...wouldn't that save gas?

My parents live 2 hours away from us or in gas terms $34 away round trip.
My brother drives to my house and we split the gas 3 ways so he chips in $11 and change . We have done this 4 times about once a month over the last 4 months when we visit my parents.
Sounds like no big deal but so far that is $44 that he has thrown in our gas tank.
He saves and we save so we are both happy. So if he car pools with us over the year it will save us around $140

We usually would drive all over the state to try out new bike trail and state park every few weeks prob 12 times a year ( or 600$ in gas) . But going on long trips usually requires $ 50 in gas so we stay local and just ride the trails around us for like 5$ in gas.So by cutting out the spring summer bike travels and staying local we will prob save $550.

We do not go to the store like we used to ,we usually wait till we need more then just a few things and get all we can at one time. Store is close so that does not save much maybe a buck or two a week.

We live in the city so we are enjoying more of the local city stuff being that it is close by. When before we used to try and get out of the city for the week ends.

i dont even think about it............except when i fill up my car and its $60 for 15 gallons...........but im careless and dont think about it when im driving

I'm not going to buy new tires or rims for the sake of FE. That might come into consideration when I have to replace the tires. I'm almost certainly not going to buy new rims...unless I can find some stamped steel ones at the junkyard for really cheap or something.

Park it in my grass. It will fit right in here. We park our cars in the grass by the front door. I saw your neighborhood... I will never live like that again if I can help it.. People right on top of each other.

lol he'd do it even if he were single. he doesnt give a crap about how a car looks, rather how it performs. (these are his words really)

Haha. Jonathan is a lot like me.. Most people care more how their car looks than how their body looks. To me it's just a way to get somewhere.

People complain about gas prices, but I've yet to meet anyone other than me and my fiance who's willing to really do anything to reduce their own consumption of it. I started posting about my Jetta "greasecar" in '05 on the Internet and telling all my RL friends and acquaintances about it, but no one's even investigated it, much less actually gotten one themselves. How about at least give up your F-150 extended cab or your Yukon for something that burns less gasoline?

Prices keep going up and people keep complaining, but I see no change in the amount of 5,000lb full size trucks and SUV's idling in the drive-throughs of McDonalds. 9 out of 10 of these behemoths I see on the roads have just one little head sitting behind the wheel, and are hauling nothing heavier than a pocketbook, or a few bags of groceries. The way I see it is if you choose to drive a large, heavy vehicle, then you abdicate your right to bitch about gas prices.

Rock on sista. I would never drive one of those gas guzzling bitches... I've had people tell me I'd look great driving a truck... People baffle me..

Great post, and I agree completely. I would like to hear more of this "grease car". How easy is the conversions process, works on any car? I also heard from somewhere that all deisel car's can run on vegetable oil...huh
