What is going to happen?

X, she can't even be touched in those areas. She fucking screams in pain! She hasn't been able to sleep in weeks! We haven't had sex or left the house on the weekends in weeks! And these shots....what is going to happen? You say that are NOT going to heal her? So then what are these shots for then? They must serve a purpose.

It's not going to heal her, it's a temporary solution. It's like patching up a hole in your tire with bubble gum. You need to figure out the root of the problem and seek treatment, so go to a specialist asap and get it stared.

Ok so now what? You all are scaring me! I mean, like i said, she can't move her arms for shit! I have to drive her to work, she can't sleep, she is suffering. This is what I got so far...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortisol

It is used as an anti-inflammatory. She is in pain because she has inflammation. Wouldn't you think that these shots get rid of the pain because it will lower inflammation? But then again she has been on anti-inflammatories for a few days and they have not been helping her out at all.

Shit! LOL He is the specialist!

You said she has tendonitis, which is basically tendon inflammation. Anti-inflammatory drugs in such severe tendonitis cases tend to be just a temporary patch on the problem. She can have the shots temporarily, but she should seek professional long-term alternative treatment for the problem. You should do anything you can to avoid possible surgery for the tendonitis, as that's what a lot of doctors in the states tend to end up recommending.

I didn't make it clear. Alternative medicine specialist (eastern medicine). A lot of western medical treatment is either based on ibuprofen, a shot of pain killers, or surgery.

Whoa. Cortisone is NOT a "play hurt" pain-killer like vicodin. It is a potent anti-inflammatory, in the steroid family.

Saying that cortisone "isn't a cure" is a little bit beside the point; sure, it would be great to fix everything by finding and treating some underlying cause, but sometimes treating the symptom is the only thing that can be done. Maybe the cause was something trivial and your wife's immune system got a little carried away in responding to it. Cortisone tells the immune system to chill out.

Maybe the cause is not something that can be treated directly -- but the symptom, the inflammation, can be. It sounds like the orals aren't doing the job, so the doctor -- and WTF do you peeps think you're doing second-guessing a DOCTOR??? -- wants to deliver it directly to the site of the problem. That makes some sense.

You have a doctor, for Pete's sake! ASK HIM.

Ok well "pain killer" wasn't the correct term - but I guess it does suggest that exploring the potential sources w/ the doctor is viable. Often it seems that if you go in & really let the doc know that the pain is that bad, the solution will be a cortisone shot to deal w/ the pain. I guess the question would be is this the only solution then and it becomes somethign you have to do on a regular basis or if it does allow a chance for the body to get itself back in order. Obviously I would defer to the doc, but certainly doesnt' hurt to press for options.

wut do you mean bro? we're supposed to take one doctors words as fact. i have seen many situations where different doctors have said different things, so i wouldnt put my trust on one doctor. secondly like mr.x said, it would be a good idea to consult an eastern specialist, lets be honest western medicine treats symptoms as opposed to eastern medicine that treats the root problem.

The shots are corticosteroid, which will cause a decrease in swelling in the area which will relieve the pain. Right now there is enough swelling that it is decompressing the nerves in that area. Once the swelling goes down, it should heal faster too. What you have to do is find out what caused the tendonititis to begin with. I had it bad and with a little thought I figured out it was flat bench presses, never did them again. I rarely have the tendonititis now. Perhaps she was overworking that area with a particular exercise or series of exercises, maybe its badly overtrained.

What kind of doctor specilized in western medicine? How do we find him/her? And we do have to pick a doctor that is in the insurance book. Otherwise she isn't covered at all.

This doctor wants to avoid the shots and especially surgery. That is why he took x-rays and gave her the anti-inflammatory pills with a pain killer...percocet. The pain killer is to kill the pain while the other medication does its job for the next few days. He said that after a couple of weeks if the pain is stil there, that she will need the shots. If the shots don't do it....then surgery.
