My wife has BAD tendonitis of both shoulders. She now is going to require a hydrocortisone shot. Acutally she needs two! One in each shoulder. What is going to happen now? Does this mean that she is going to loose lots of muscle? Does this mean she is going to get fat? And if so, is there a way to stop this from happening?

She has been on anti-inflammatory medication for quite some time now but it is not helping her at all. So that is why now she needs to get these shots.

Let me ask you this, has the doctor tried other cures, eastern / western? before suggesting cort shots? You do know those shots are a temporary solution to a bigger problem.

no she wont loose to much muscle the shot hurts like a bitch though but dont worry she'll be fine..no if she cant workout for a while that could cause muscle loss but not from the shot its self

Agreed! Make sure you know all your options before submitting to cortisone shots.

She hasn't trained upper body in weeks! She only does lower body. But the past 3 weeks she has been in so much pain that she hasn't trained at all! She went to the doctor and explained to him the pain she was in. All he prescribed to her was the anti-inflammatory medication. Said to take it for 12 days straight. And if that doesn't make it go away, that she would need the shots. And it looks like she is going to need those shots.

I suggest you look into alternative medicine, from deep tissue massage, to accupuncture, to herbal treatments. Those shots are a short-term solution, and not a healthy one at that.

X, she can't even be touched in those areas. She fucking screams in pain! She hasn't been able to sleep in weeks! We haven't had sex or left the house on the weekends in weeks! And these shots....what is going to happen? You say that are NOT going to heal her? So then what are these shots for then? They must serve a purpose.

they numb the pain bro. its what they used to give athletes when they tore a ligament and wanted to keep them in the game, then the tear became permanent and the career was over, it happened countless times. i was addicted to vicodin from pain from surgery and it is the hardest thing to kick ever. you should really see if there is a form of physical therapy that she can start on to fix the problem at its root. best of luck

I think they are really nothing but a pain killer. Don't actually fix or heal anything. The scary part there is that they will mask pain (which is the body's way of saying "GODDAMMIT FIX ME!") and if you think you "feel OK", you may go & do something that aggravates the situation (the deeper issue that Mr. X refers to) and you end up even worse when the shots wear off.

I had an aerobics teacher years ago when we still did 'hi impact aerobics" who had shin splints so bad she had to get regular cortisone shots - she could've easily had some brutal hairline fractures that were getting pummeled every time she taught aerobics - in my mind I suggested that she look for another job....
