There is no way we'll go to war with N. Korea. They have a hostage situation going. If anyone moves on them they'll start firing artillery shells at south korea and destroy Seoul, which has about 10 million people on it. I think US weaponry can destroy artillery pieces after the first shot is fired but there are still 10s of thousands of them along the N/S korean border. So that is still 10s of thousands of shells that could be armed with WMD. Plus they have a massive suicide commando squad of 200k soldiers willing to do terrorism, suicide missions and assassinations overseas. The price of war is just too high anytime soon.

I'd love to blow the shit out of north korea and put all of the leaders of north Korea on trial somewhere, watch Kim Jong Il and the inner circle spend the rest of their lives in shitty prisons somewhere. But the price is too high.

Plus north koreans are brainwashed from birth to think Kim is god and that the US is the devil. They are brainwashed into believing everything bad about N. Korea is the fault of America. If you starve it is the fault of the US. No medicine? that is America's fault. The occupation of North Korea would be worse than Iraq. I don't think they do. My understanding is that S. Korea wants the N. Korean regime to remain in place. if the N. Korean regime falls then Korea becomes unified and it will destroy S. Korea's economy. Imagine the US becoming unified with Sub Saharan Africa into one big nation. The population would go up and then the economy would totally change, much of the economy would go to lifting Africa out of poverty. Plus the psychological damage North Koreans suffer from will take generations to fix and S. Korea doesn't want to deal with it.

What the S. Korean gov. wants is for N. Korea to enter the international community and start building its economy. They don't want war.
