We have an age/maturity confusion issue here on EF

age and maturity (in many instances are mutually exclusive). . .case in point. . .i am 42 yo and i enjoy sitting around with my kids watching sponge bob square pants. . .for the exact same reason that they do. . .it's friggin funnier than hell!! my wife, 39 yo does not enjoy this activity. . .she watches CNN and HGTV. . .P-U!!!

you're only young once. . .but you can be immature forever. :)

i'm taking over 4ever's family business.
fuck I did it
I spent 8 some odd years on call 24/7
phone rings at 3am and I have to throw on a suit
find the place
and then deal with the people who's mother just died
and I don't know what I'm getting when I knock on that door

In the past week or so (and for a while now) I have seen several posters make pretty off-kilter (sp?) comments on age and maturity / knowledge. Let's settle this all right now, please:

1) Captain Obviouses - yes, we all know that as you get older, your mentality changes. Along with added experience and just longer time on this earth, you learn knew things and typically realize that you now know/understand more than you did a few years ago. Once again, overstating the obvious here.

2) Age DOES NOT EQUAL maturity. I think a lot of you here don't truly understand this. Age CERTAINLY does not guarantee maturity (I won't point out any examples, you all know what I mean). Getting older is not a feat you achieve - it's gonna happen no matter what you choose to do in life. So stop a) using age as a crutch to convince yourself you are automatically smarter/wiser/better than younger peeps and b) stop assigning a certain level of maturity/knowledge/intelligence to a person based on his/her age

3) For the younger peeps (younger being a relative word) - understand that there is a GREATchance that your values, beliefs, views, opinions and judgments will change as you increase in age. This is part of life.
so does this mean im not mature or wise? i disagree :artist:

Can we really tell what people are about just by reading their posts here?

Can we?

CAN WE?!

What was the question, again?

Good post. Funny that it's usually women who use this tactic to discredit the opinion or argument of another. (From what i've seen on EF anyway). Childish in itself.
