I also propose that car horns shouldn't go 'honk', too remiscent of honkey. From now on all car horns should sound different

I'm also upset that crackers are still being sold at the grocery. Call them something else you racists. Like tolerance bread.

Re: Honkey - Is a derrogative term directed at white men. The reason why Blacks started calling Whites honkeys is because white men would go to the red light districts in Black neighborhoods and honk their cars at black women & black prostitutes. But they never got out of the car.

Re: Crackers - This dates back to the shameful days of slavery when the slave owners would "crack" that whip to intimidate field negros and while whipping slaves. Thus the term "young whipper snapper" - refers to a young white male on a plantation.

Whats fucked up is that for those of us who grew up on Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fud (I loved them) & other older cartoons there are alot of racial overtones, stereotypes and arguably offensive language directed at Black, Indian & Asians. Seeing them now I'm like Damn!

I kinda disagree with that a little NB. I'm from Oakland, I dont hear nobody non-black saying that unless they got a pass to say it. Actually i take that back, there were some philipino cats saying it to eachother during a basketball game off Foothill last year and I check'em It just about respect tho.

I agree. I was called by some black guys I'm sort of friends with "nigga". I didn't really think anything of it, but I didn't call them "niggas" back.

my whole thing is that there IS a difference between the word "nigga" and "nigger". sure it might not make sense to some people, but life doesn't always make sense.

1.) Negro is actually a word in other latin based languages. Thus in areas that were founded by people from those origins is no more a slanderous term than us calling something black.

2.) The majority of my friends are black, most of them at least have a bachelor's degree, all of us refer to one another as "nigga" and "nigger". Mostly when playing LAN games though.... Oh, I'm white.

3.) It's not an outrage that landmarks exist with the word nigger in them simply because it's a terribly commonly used word and until those who should be offended (this does not include some internet scholar) actually ask for change, it won't happen.

This word is not going away, either get over it and accept it or shut the hell up about it.

Yea there is a difference between Nigga and Nigger. Nigger is who whites and other non-black refer to Blacks. Its filled with so much hatred, stereotypes, history during slavery and during the Civil Rights Movement - it evokes much emotion instantly.

Nigga is something that we call ourselves. Something that nobody else could or would call us, nor could they call themselves one since it derived from a time when our family members & ancestors were enslaved.

Mainstream America has always dipped in to our culture and used what they wanted. Take music for instance (Ex. Elvis). Rap music. In the late 1970s everyone said it would last. Now corporate america incorporates it everywhere (commercials, tv. shows etc), Fashion, etc.

It appears now that folks are try'in so hard to walk in our shoes. Doo rags/wave caps, saggin, talk, walk, etc. The opposite isn't true. You dont see Blacks tryin to be like Latinos, Asians, and Euros by imitating their cultural. Somthing to think about....

I take it the reason this is ok is because you know them and they know you dont mean any harm or insult.

I do the same with my friends who aren't Black, but not where strangers could hear, just between ourselves like an inside joke. But I've told them pronounce it at niggA... not... niggER....ouch!
