Triple H Tears Bicep-had Surgery!

Triple H

New member
My cast is off. See my reply post at end of this thread. This is the original.

I tore my bicep tendon completely off the radius bone. I had surgery last week. They drilled 2 holes, pulled the bicep tendon through and secured it with screws. I WAS on my 4th week of my basic Test/D-Ball cycle. I never broke or tore anything. I am a little down about the whole thing. I've been competing at least once per year as a heavy weight for the last 5 years. Maybe I need a break. When the cast comes off my arm will be small. I am not used to that. Anyone had the same or similar incident? How long before you trained again? How long before the size returned? Sorry, I needed to vent. I feel kinda depressed.

Sorry to hear that bro. I know how your feeling about the size thing I fractured my foot couple months back, in a cast for 2 months, been out of it for about 3-4 weeks . Fucking thing was tiny. looked like a super models arm. I still can't train calves but I've been squating lightly and it makes a little difference.
Take it slow, see a physiotherapist sports specialist. He can help you with when to get back into training.
Good luck

I Feel for ya man.Several yrs ago i tore my shoulder benching the strange thing is i felt a ripple in my arm when it happened came to find that i also pulled the bicep off my arm. No discoloration no pain..NOTHING! except i couldn't lift my arm up it just hung at my side. At the doctors office we found that the cause was i had also tore some nerves in my shoulder this was the cause of the lack of motor function. To make a long story short the doctor said after running all sorts of tests that i would probably never be able to lift again. But as far as the bicep i could train it but it would never be the same size as the other one.2yrs later- i'm finally after months & months of struggling i was finally able to lift my arm somewhat, after that i thought if i can do it once i can do it again.then i added anything that had weight,an apple, then book, 6 yrs later i'm training again its been 9 yrs since the injury i now train like theres no tomorrow.I'm up to 235 on the bench press ,My injured bicep is not noticeable actually you have to look really hard and even then you probably wouldn't know unless i told you. Sorry to rant so long what i'm trying to say is keep your head up at least your injury isn't as bad as mine and doctors aren't always right. If you make up your mind to quit-You will,If you decide to work around your injury ,you will find a way. Cheer up there is light at the end of the tunnel.I know its a long tunnel but hang in there!!! Wishing you the best!!!! RADAR:cool:

Sorry to hear that. I broke my elbow about four years ago in a football incident. It was cracked in seven places and I was in a cast for six weeks. When It came off, I was ready to cry because it looked like a toothpick, but you could not even tell the difference after six months between my good arm and bad one. Just the beginning rehab is tough. Hang in there.

I had the same surgery 2 years ago, I lost 4 1/2 months of training. It drove me nuts, but after I started working out again I looked better than before the surgery after just 2 months of training. A word of advice, EAT CLEAN WHILE YOU ARE OFF., it will make a big difference when you start back training.

OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH.

I've never torn a biceps, but I have torn a hamstring. NOt BB'ing but it still sucked ass.

It took forever to get back to normal and you never really feel as confident with it as before.

Make sure to do the physio, and take your time getting back to 100%.

Best of Luck!!!

Good luck in your recovery, HHH

I know how you feel...I sustained a serious burn on the lower half of my right bicep...required skin grafts, etc...ten years later, i'm still missing about 1/4-1/3 of my bicep muscle

look at it this way, in less than one year it will just be a memory, and you'll be smarter for it

No muscle tears, but I had a very bad back injury. Destroyed two vertebrae in my spine. I have not got the surgery that my neurosurgeon says I need. If I do, it'll ruin both my bodybuilding, and wrestling careers. Or so he says.
For now, I can't do squats or leg presses, deadlifts, rows, nothing that involves bending at the waist really. It's hard. But my arm devolopment is moving along nicely. As is shoulders, chest, and calves. So I'm built well... just can't do a lot of the basics.
It's hard.
I'm sorry to hear it.
It'll be especially hard to see the size difference. That's got to be a shock. And I do not envy you.
I know the words are meaningless... it can offer little comfort, but hang in there anyway. We're all rooting for you.

Thanks for the positive words. My doctor assures me that it will look good again. I am eating very clean and will stay lean. If I can't do a show this year, I might as well have a beach body.

Thanks again,
Triple H

sorry to hear that, but damn! i thought you were really talking about HHH in the subject line!!
hope everything works out for you.

Feeling small today, but more up than yesterday.
This f___ing cast is itching the hell out of me!!!

Sorry about your injury. But don’t fret, you will be just fine.

I did the same thing a little over two years ago, tore the medial biceps tendon, and did not have it repaired.
Two issues as a result

One I have a Popeye biceps in my left arm
Two have lost about 10% strength because it was not repaired.

Also I just aggravated or tore it again about 2 weeks ago and it has postponed my eq-test-dbol cycle until July.

You will be happy you had it repaired in the long run. I assume you are in your twenties, is that about right? I’m 50 and waited too long to see a surgeon and subsequently surgery was not a viable option.

I have found (post injury) curls and bicep-tricept exercises are not a problem.

The are of most sensitivity is actually in lateral shoulder fly’s, As I write this I’m thinking I should probably replace that particular exercise and work my mid-delts with a different routine.

Post op, do a lot of cardio, abs, legs,

Let your arm heal-----you will be fine and happy that you had it repaired!!!!!!

Feel free to e-mail me, I sell orthopedic/spine implants and speak to surgeons in the LA area every day.

Tha real hhh from wwf , just tore his quad

at least thats what vince said tonite on smack down.:D

OUCH so u tore ur whole fuckn tendon off the bone? :( i know they attached it manually to your radius bone with screws, but is it gonna stay like that forever or are they gonna try to have it reattached to the radius bone so it was like before? .. WOW just seems like having your tendon hooked on with a few screws isnt as good as nutaral .. hope u get better bro. i feel for you and i know how it is to be injured and not be able to do sports/training.. i fucked up my back and had to sit a football season out :( hope u get better bro.

The screws just help secure things for now, (they will stay in though). After a while the tendon fuses, (grows to the bone). It should be good as new, docs say. I believe 'em, I just have to be patient.

Thanks for the replies.

ps On a positive note, this is the first summer in about 6 years I haven't competed in a bodybuilding show, I can actually enjoy a barbeque (or 2) and a few beers! ha

been there

TAKE the time to heal, and DO the shitty assed REHAB.

Had it in Oct 97, sounded like celry in a wet towel.
10K later I was fixed-up, that God for insurance.
I blame me, since I was not properly warmed up.
Preacher curls, just a little to low, and rip. Also, lucky it was not my wrttting arm. Had come back 110%.

But those first weeks out of the flex brace, and the day I lifted a can of Coke off the shelf, and it felt like a 75# bell. I realized just how bad it was.

Doc said it will take a year to heal and be 100%. I said SHIT, 12 months. YES, since you are a BB, and in better condition. If you were a slug, then 6 months. Doc did some nice cuts, and they are almost not noticble.

Still do preacher ..... but VERY careful.

Good luck HHH

Had a friend who tore his bicep and it never looked the same. You should be thankful your doc has said it will go back to normal. Your body remembers. Your arms will be the same size after two or so months when you return to training. Think Dennis Newman. How small did he get and in a few months he was hard again at 250. In the mean time sit back and enjoy the pain killers you get for your torn bicep.

Last week in the gym,I saw a guy tear his rotator cuff going benches-It was damn depressing. The next day,he was back,in a sling riding the bike.I admire his dedication
to the sport.

The cast is OFF - 10weeks later!

:redhot:

Well everybody, I had my cast removed yesterday. I can't straighten the arm yet. I can get to about 130 degress and thats it.

The arm is 14.5 inches !!!!!!!! Its a long way from the just over 19 inches 10 weeks ago. My right arm is even down to 17 from not training. DEPRESSING, JSHEEESH!

On a positive note the surgeon did an excellent job and my scars are very fine. They are 3 or inches long but very fine. Once is in the crease of my elbow where he pulled my bicep back down, and the other scar is on the back of my forearm where he used 2 screws to help hold the tendon in place.

Start physio therapy early next week.
Back on the mend.

Triple H

Good luck and hope that those arms will be bigger than before in no time.

Best of luck

I tore my distal bicep tendon on March 5, 2001. The doctors didn't know if it was a complete tear or not. To make a long story short, I didn't have surgery until April 11, and in that time period the tendon shrunk too far into the bicep and it could not reach back to the original insertion point. So the sergeon roped it into the bracialis tendon. I've been doing light workouts for about 5 weeks now, including curls and that. My brachialis does most of the work still because I have not been using enough weight to require bicep help. But I did back for the first time two days ago and nothing ripped out. I understand I could have opted to use some hamstring tendon to extend the bicep tendon to reach all the way down, but the doctors said that would not be very stable. I've heard that bicep tendon tear repairs using the bicep tendon only have an excellent recovery record - no retears.

Good Luck and enjoy the cardio workouts, that is what I did.

BTW, the doctors said 6 mos till full recovery. That's BS and maybe for some 60 yo man, but I really feel like I'm ready to go back full power NOW and am only holding back just to be safe.

Triple H, you were smart to bite the bullet and have the surgery.

Time goes by fast and you did the best thing for your overall health and strength by having it repaired.

Your arm will look great with in a few short months.
:)

Thanks for the good words

Thanks for the good words. Every day I can open my arm a little further. I can almost extend it now. I will keep everybody posted on the rehab because there isn't very much info on this type of injury posted on this board according to the searches. Maybe somebody else will want to know what to expect if this happens to them.

Thanks,
Triple H
