Training Board Monthly PR post

CoolColJ, are your workout always in the 1.5 hour range? If so, sounds like you would benefit from trimming that down to an hour IMO.. I know I would definitly breach into the realm of overtraining if I constantly spent that much time in the gym...

Well my warmup takes a good 15-20 mins by itself, so I don't know wether I should count this as part of the workout, but its added to my 1.5 hours

Just your usual dynamic stretch, swings, light weights, etc.

I have no overtraining issues myself. I feel pretty good today, some soreness in my lower back, but overall I feel cheerful and chirper.

Reverse Band Deadlift (Blue): 573 (22lb PR)

Tried it the first time and came within a couple inches of locking it out....then almost passed out. Threw my belt on came back and BARELY made it...not sure if it fully locked out...but it was f/n close enough.

Great job Hannibal... How long has it been since you last did these?

4 weeks...tried 574 last time and it got stuck at my knees. Need to really kill my lockout the next couple weeks. That's where I stall.

Same here.. I get stalled out lust above my knees.. I have plenty of speed off the floor and can finish providing I get past that 1 point...

Hannibal, I you would please remind me, what shirt do you use? Thanks, and good Job on the PR..

Thanks...it's an Inzer Double Denim Rad Cut with the back and neck blown out.

Did my DE lower day today:

Box Squats Raw
297 plus medium bands tight, 8 sets of 2, 30 sec rest
456 x 1
506 x 1

B True

I benched 265 yesterday. PR was 255. I almost made 275, but I needed a tiny bit of help. My original goal was to hit 275 by new years.. now that goal is 315. catching up!

Another PR on 2 Board Press.. I did these with Doubled Light(Purple) bands ran under the rack.. At lockout the band tension measured around 215 pounds the way it was set up.. I Previously did these with just Doubled minis and hit a Bar weight of 295 pounds, and before that I had used bar weight only and hit 365 pounds.. So these are kinda hard to compare. But I believe it to be my best on 2 Board so far....

10/24/02 - 2 Board Press w/Doubled Light(purple) Bands - 200 Pounds

A couple weeks ago 385 floor press with 3 chains per side, this week 320 with 5 chains per side and almost got 350:D ! gonna be a good meet.

Awsome DB.. Last time I did Floors with chain I nearly blew a nut hitting 305 with 2 Chains per side.. Do you know what your attempts will be yet?

Changed my split, so my legs have not fully recovered from last session, but still supercompensated enough to make some gains

High Bar Full Olympic Back Squats - No belt and rock bottom
250lbs x3

4th rep was too slow of the bottom dumped it into the pins
Much higher overall bar speed than last session

Paused Set - 4 sec pause at bottom
225lbs x3

Romanian Deadlifts
195lbs x6

Slightly bent knee Stiff Legged deadlift
185lbs x6

Heh some football player commented to me how "phenomenal" my box jumps (20-24inch box I think) look, his words.
I don't bend my legs much, maybe 3 inches at most and land ontop with straight legs and with 3-4 inches to spare.

Wish I could get some taller boxes though. I just use whatever I can find in the gym.

I should vid cap some box jumps next session

My elbows and shoulders are taking a beating from all the band work, so I didn't even try to break my raw record. The shirted record was quite possibly the ugliest lift in the history of mankind..but it went. On Max Effort Day..that's all that matters.

10/03/02 - 515 Pound PR Previous Record 4 weeks ago was 495 pounds

11/07/02 - Reverse Blue Band Press - 525 Pound PR

After I did these today the gym owner decided to bring out some scales and weigh the 45 pound plate.. There are tow different brands.. The Everlast brand plates were all about 2 pounds heavier or 47 pounds and the Standard brand plates were 3 pounds over or 48 pounds each...

I was extremely happy about this because it meant my PR today actually weighed out to 550 Pounds instead of the 525 indicated on the plates..

how's your bench nate? :)

havent been training specifically my flat lately. ive been repping 6's with 225 on incline. i did a 5x5 with 255 the other day. felt good. i need to get back to doing a ME day for bench again. ive been kindof in hypertrophy specific mode. (not HST though) just keeping more of a growth rep range. 6-10 reps. im competing again in march so i want to eke out some growth before cutting.

im kindof missing doing less than 6 reps though. :( but i think i'll take a little time to heal up. AC joint is feeling "funny" lately. l

what can i say. my birthday is next week and i'm falling apart. hehehe.

13/11/02 -

Pretty damn good workout today! Well in one area and not in another

I felt somewhat drowsy when I started the Rows, everything felt heavy, but once I started to sweat up, everything felt fine.
Set PRs, and had good pump.

I changed my bench form as Bfold suggested, tucked the shoulder blades together, felt really stable! Less explosive than before, but I guess its due to nueral changes, in time it will come back. Cuffs felt way better! The bands help off course!
Fried my lats though - for some reason. Made the chins hard as hell!

Got the bands going today with bench presses in my power sets - felt ood - perfect tension, I could thrust the mofo as hard as I wanted and it stuck to my hands! :)
New Bench form felt great on the cuffs - which normally take a beating on fast stuff

70 Degree Barbell Overhand Grip Rows
Normal set - 230lbs x 5 -
very heavy

Bench Press
Normal Set - 210x5
last rep was very slow

Paused Set + doubled choked purple bands - 3 to 4 sec pause at the bottom
185x3 - FAILED! I didn't get a spotter on this set, underestimated the band resistance - had to roll the bar down my body :p

Weighted Chins on a power rack
1x5 30lbs
Ass heavy! Lats were really tired from rows and benching. one rep down but weight up from last session

Weighted Towel chins
1kg x 6
Grip is definitely going up!

2 personal records for me tonight.

I weigh 148

Deadlifted 4 sets of 5 of 205, then on the last set I pulled up 205 for 10 reps!!!! I could barely walk after that.

Then I busted out 8 reps with the 60 lb DBs in bent over rows, I usually use 50s or 55s.

11/14/02 - 4 Board Press w/Doubled Purple Bands - 300 Pounds

These Bands doubled are supposed to be somewhere around 175 pounds of tension. Previous best was 295

yesterday i did 14 reps of dips with 70lbs attached. this was after 5 sets of heavy bench and 2 previous sets of dips.

made possible by these Adidas Oly shoes :)

Speed Sets today for the full Oly squat had purple bands hooked up to the bar, anchored around a 25lb plate with a 45 sitting on top, bands going through hole of the 45. Worked great!

The bar had no tension right at the bottom of a full oly Squat, but as soon I move it an inch or more the bands kicked in. I can slam the bar hard (and I had too) and the bar didn't budge off my back at all.

I used 135 lbs and it felt pretty heavy. I could stretch the bands up to the bar by hand no problems.

Also pushed more through the heel now, that seem to activate the hamstrings much more. The stability of the new Adidas Ironwork weightlifting shoes I got is pretty damn good!

---------------

Something of inetrest with my Banded Bench Press

Band setup - Purple (Light) bands hooked up to the bar, anchored around a 25lb plate with a 45 sitting on top, bands going through hole of the 45. Bands kicked in at about 1/3 of the way up.

Grip - thumbs 3 inches from edge of inner knurled area

Warmup sets - Barx10, 95x8, 135x6, 185x6 no bands here
Tempo 10X0 Rest - 2 mins

175lbs+bands x 5
155lbs+bands x 5
135lbs+bands x 5
115lbs+bands x 5

Damn do bands make you work hard!! My triceps are were fried, they are really aching now! Especially right near the elbow.

I guess the triceps are used more near lockout and work hard they did with the bands in place! I had to push with all my might from chest to lockout. Almost isokinetic like.
Look at the weights I used above. I was losing strength after every set! I can normally rep at 185 fairly easily for multiple sets normally, but with the bands in, I using way more fibers per set. Goes to show how little fibers you recruit normally, because of the fact there is greater leverage once you get past halfway.
I suspect it means, I was recruiting large numbers of white fibers, since I was fatigued so quickly.

------------------

8 weeks now into my current training cycle - almost time for me to test my Deadlift max and then take a 2 week layoff :)

I did Zercher squats today for the forst time as an ME Exercise. I ended up making the mistake of taking too small of jumps when working up to a max, so I ended up with like 8 singles.. I was good for alot more except my elbow pit/upper forearm area as in too much pain to continue... Normally I can work through pain, but I have suffered from Tendonitis in my left elbow and it was seriously acting up. Next time will be much better, with a huge PR.

11-22-02 - Zercher Squats off bottom pin position - 365 pounds

2 days ago. 225 box squat for 5. that was my second time doing box squats. i think i can get a 275 single.

today....well, i had to do a ME day in the squat rack for flat bench due to no spotter, so i set the pins around an inch or so above my chest. i got 2 275 singles, but missed a 295 single. messed around with the warmups too much and my AC joint is aching today like crazy. i'll get back up there though. my 275s sailed up though.

hit some inclines 245 for 5. i can really tell where my weak spot is. as soon as i hit the "sticking point" my triceps kick in and the bar shoots up. but that 3-4 inches above my chest......weak!!!

i guess i gotta hit some illegally wides soon. :(

Already put it in the powerlifting forum, but I'm happy :D , squat 875,bench600,deadlift765,2240total-275's.That was on 11/17/02

I recently started doing stiff leg dead lifts and I was able to get 315x1 on thursday. I felt like i could have gotten one or two more, but my hands weren't ready to hold the weight. Have to strengthen the forearms - trying to stay away from straps for a while. I think i was becoming too dependent on them.

Other than that, the only think i guess i have bested lately was 165x8 on barbell incline and 135x15 on barbell military press.

11-29-02 Well today I decided to finally take a week and do rep work for my ME Bench Day. So I guess this would counnt as a PR for Reps

Dumbell Press - 120 Pound Dumbells x 15 Reps, x 12, x10, x8

12/05/02 - ME Bench: 2 Board Press with Doubled Light/Purple Bands - 305 pounds

These bands doubled are supposed to be somewhere around 170 at lockout and 115 at chest

My previous best was 295 with Doubled Minis.. So a huge PR for the day.

Thats what I was wondering. Apparently I need to learn how to use a shirt. Last Wed I hit a 485 reverse blue band press, and I am nowhere near pressing that in a shirt.

Gotta get faster I guess....

Not exactly a PR per se, but I have managed to get near my DL pr without straps. I switched to no belt about 6 months ago. The workout is more far reaching and an incredable feeling without the cheats on. Old PR 455. I am deconditioning now and adding 20 lbs a week until my reps drop to about the 6 range then switch to 5x5 then 5x3 then 1 rm. But I feel far more accomplishment with going strapless than just pulling 455.

315 x 12
315 x 12
365 x 10
405 x 3

425 on the decline tonight. I think I'm gonna pay for it.

I wasn't expecting to attempt PRs today - so no videos!!! :(

12-13-02 - 3 Board Press PR of 410 Pounds

My Previous best was 405.. I was planning on going for 425 Tonight but my Tendonitis in my left arm was aggrivated tonight so I had to stop.. Wasn't even able to do my tri work.. So I'll hit that tomorrow.

12-12-02 - Arched Back free standing GM's - PR 355x3

Previous PR was 300x1 These are a terrible weakness for me because of my lower back issues which I'm finally over after 3 years.. I had slipped 3 disks and reaggrivated repeatedly during that time... It's the decent that Gives me problems. Lifting the weight is cake.. Especially after all the Chain Suspened GMs I have been doing the past 6 months...But all the reverse hypers have finally rehabed it Thank God.....

glad to hear your back is better jdarty

wish i could say the same for myself

Thanks jeremys.. It's rather odd how it started to get well actually.. I was doing Arched GMs as I was yesterday about 4 months ago.. On my last set I lost my tightness going down and slipped one of the same disks.. I think I even posted about that back then looking for advice.. Well I couldn't even stand upright after that.. So I hit some Reverse Hypers hoping for some relief.... And it did quit hurting enough for me to finish up with some Ab work... Well the next day I came in and warmed up with about 8 sets of 5 i think with a mini band letting it pull me under for a good long stretch each rep... Well I felt 100% after that day... And ever since I haven't had the slightest bit of pain in my lower back...

So it literally took me making my injury worse in order to fix it.. Of course I'm still hesitent with it at times on squats and AB GMs, but I think my ordeal is finally over.. After Chiros and an ortho were unable to repair me without surgery even... I really hope yours get better soon bro... It was hell not being able to squat those 3 years....

2x3x225

rock bottom!

since taking all my movements ATF, very big difference. weights drop, along with my ego....but very stable knees, strong back etc. feel more functional, but weights are climbing again....its like being a beginner again. gains like i had just started working out. hehehe.

hehe I just did that same weight and sets 2 days ago!

hehe, thats why i did it. :D

i watched your vids and got a wild hair up my A$$ to do front squats. warmed up and just started climbing up in weight. got 5 easy with 205 so i figured what the hey, at least i'll get one. then i did 3.

i'll try for 275 some day. maybe 245 next workout to see how it feels. getting into spotterville though. i was slow coming up out of my very last rep.

ive been doing some CAT type back squats as well from the floor. watching my form to see where it breaks down. thing i noticed today...my knees slightly come in if i dont pay attention. all those years of wide squatting has made my adductors overpower everything else. dammit! nothing a little lateral stabilizer work wont fix though. :D

Floor press of 475, think its a 5lb pr, either that or damn close, good for this far away from a meet.
