Torn lateral miniscus (knee)

Looks like ive got a torn lateral miniscus, but not that bad because i can still run several miles without any problem but it cant heal on its own and requires surgery, from what the Dr. said. Anyone here have this problem before and what was your experience with the surgery and afterwards? Did you gain 100% use again?

mine is half gone, also had an acl reconstruction, i'm far from 100%....but mine was pretty major. they will basically cut out the damaged portion of your meniscus, and should be a fairly minor surgery and quick recovery with some therapy.

Will I be back to how I was before the injury or is there some sort of permanent limitations, however minor?

hard to say....I'd guess you will feel some difference....most likely very very minor.

me, I lost a bit of range of motion in my knee, my thigh is smaller than my other one, arthritis, pain, swelling, etc etc.

all i can say is take your therapy seriously, and work as hard as you can to get it back to where it was.

I'm pretty sure there is a newer technique being used where they poke alot of micro holes in the cartiledge and can then repair itself, can't remember who but some NFL player had it done!!

doctors are like buying a house... it's gonna be a long term investment so find one that is good and knows the newest methods... and you may have to shop around before finding the right one!! I almost had a guy lay me open with outdated techniques, but some stuff came up with my insurance and I moved about a month later to where I found a new doc with updated methods and actually was the ex-team doc for the broncos and tours the countyry occasionally giving seminars on th newest techiniques!! I had minimal cutting and a great recovery, the first guy wanted my leg in a cast for six to eight weeks thus losing alot of flexibility and the ligaments grow together tighter risking more injury in the future, second doc had me in a machine on my back for the first week that kept my leg moving continuously and and me doing exercises and stretchs with it several times a day... by the time I would have been out of my cast with the first doc and ready to begin recovery I was almost finishing recovery with the second doc!! shop around and good luck!!

you got that right, my current doc did my shoulder twice and it will never be the same, its not really bad but there are some things that bother it and its pretty much permanent. He was very fast to say surgery for my knee also, without even seeing an MRI! I definitely wont be using him again and will probably wait a year until i get out of school and get some good insurance and move to a big city where there is a large pool of good docs.
