my thoughts and experience about this.............

are the big guys really looking down their noses at you, or are you just imagining this?

after starting out at new gym about 3 month's ago, and working out at the same time for a few weeks, the big guys started nodding hello to me and talking to me. i was suprised to find that they were regular guys just like me, a little shy at first, and downright friendly after they got to know me. a well meaning compliment from me about their biceps or pecs or calves got them smiling ear to ear and flattered and talking my ear off about lifting, girls, cars or whatever else came to mind.

some of the really big freaks are just as shy or uncertain about themselves as you or i are, perhaps even more so. many guys start lifting to make up for social shyness.

after 3 months at this gym, some new guys are making the first tenative steps towards talking to me, asking ME about machines, or expressing admiration about MY calves or pecs or bis. who wudda thought??

it's just a matter of personal perspective, dude. everybody's a little shy and uncertain and intimidated at first.

nod hello or grunt out a neutral greeting a few times, and people will start talking to you. after all, we're all there for the same purpose--to pump up and improve ourselves.

Bro, I started off I was 6'1" 160... now, some years later I weigh in around mid 230's. I couldn't bench 135 when I first stepped into the gym... now I can do the 115's dumbbells on incline and over 300 on bench. Stay at that gym, there is a lot of motivation there and knowledge to boot.

Point is, most everyone starts out thin... you have to work to put it on... you'll get there, just stick with it! :)

I was in the gym today feeling really big and good about myself. Lovin life being huge. Then 2 guys come in for a photo shoot at about 275 ripped to shreds. I looked at them and thought of the dedication and genetics that got them there. I wanted to quit right then and there. This happened today! :(

listen. Thats the best way to get big is to get around the big guys. Make friends with them go out with them.... Introduce your self... And trust me with a little help from a friend you will get real fucking big. thats how everyone starts my friend.. I did from meeting the bigger guys and know i can say i am one of those guys..

The guys said it best...Hardcore is where its at...try motivating yourself when you see the big guys train..i used to feed off that energy and got good results...pretty soon you'll fit right in.....and like me its nice to have friends like that when you need a referigerator or piano moved!!!! HEHEH RADAR

Man you got the best of both worlds. Your just starting out so everyday you train will
be a gain day.......no plateus in sight. You also have all those monsters to watch, see
how big they are? They got that way from training right plus you can use the visualization tool and picture yourself that size while training. Man where I train the equipment is hardcore but at the time of day I go its Like Free Buffet on Senior day!
Eat big lift big and soon you'll be addicted to the lifestyle.

Dude, don't worry about the amount of weight you use. Focus on the perfect form on the reps, learn to do the excercises right, eat lots of solid food and rest. The amount of weight will go up eventually.

I know a couple of "hard core" lifters, who can bench 400 pounds for reps, but they do it with such a bad form that they look like skinny bitches. The main goal to these guys is to bench a lot. They don't give a FUCK about technique. Cheaters.

Feel each and every rep in your muscle, train hard, eat right, rest and fucking grow! :)

i'll throw in my 2 cents... i feel intimidated to this day from some of the "bigger" guys... but the other day i was doing sit down calves and one of the guys in there trying to get his pro card came by and asked if he could work in... i said sure but you might wanna add some weight... he looked at the weights on there and said "well i am gonna stretch first if you are almost done and besides i'd have to lower the weight some." This guy has intimidated me unknowingly since i started at the gym and turns out we bs'ed for a lil while and he was a really cool guy (with weak calves heheh). so trust me when I say this... no one cares how much you can do as long as you are in there trying it... and 9 out of 10 guys will prolly be nice and try and help you if needed. I've only met one prick since i have been going to the gym... he was making fun of fat people... my training partner started at 370 and is now down to 280 still has a ways to go (he's 6'2" by the way) but he also has done martial arts for the past 16 years... and let me tell you when we were stretching and he kicked over his head this dude shut the hell up quick... so even if you meet a few dickheads... trust me someone will humble them at some point.

Absolutely correct. I'm more impressed by a 140lb guy benching 180 with proper form than I am with a 200+ pound guy bouncing 400lbs off his chest with his buddies hands on the bar the whole time. Ask questions, you'd be very surprised how helpful the vets will be. Me personally, when I see lifts like the one described above, it's like when someone scratches their fingernails on a blackboard. It hurts my eyes.
