Throwing up during a workout

Well, I've had this issue for a long time now. Whenever I do a leg workout I feel like throwing up. I've puked a couple of times but mostly I just feel nauseous and sick.

I usually eat a heavy breakfast an hour before. If I don't eat as much, I feel weak in the gym. If I eat, I feel nauseous after about 4-5 sets of squats.

Any advice on what I can do to suppress the nausea ? Thanks.

(btw breakfast consists of oats, a shake, an apple and 6-8 egg whites)

if i dont feel sick after squats or leg press i know i havent done enough! :) sorry i dont have any advice to supress the nausea

you are prob overstuffing yourself, leave out the shake in the morning, have it post workout, get yourself a energy drink to give you a boost at the gym.

good advice

Try waiting a bit longer to workout after your meal, like maybe an hour and a half to 2 hours. Eating a large meal too soon before a workout causes a conflict in the body where excess blood is required in two places at once. This could be where your nausea is coming from. I'm not usually nauseous during a workout, but sometimes if I eat too soon after a hard leg workout I feel nauseous.

Workout in the morning. Don't have anything but a preworkout drink like NOXplode, or just water. I never puke. You may need to give yourself another 30-60 seconds between sets. I work out real early in the morning Then I pig all day to get my Cals, carbs, and protein.

next time you work out focus on your breathing. Tell me if you find your self holding your breath a lot on your lifts. If so that will do it bro.

this could also be a symptom of low blood sugar.drink some gaterade well you work out.

Also never eat a lot of food before big work outs.

For what it's worth - I actually like training on an empty stomach and if I go heavy or do super sets (legs or back) I will very often get the heaves.

Try what the guys said and eat less (no shake) and see what happens though.

Its not really due to not eating, but to the amount of blood that is being pushed to the legs. Eating or not eating will probably not help ya out. Properly warming up, maybe walking on the treadmill for 15 mins will help.

eat no less then 2.5 hours BEFORE a workout.

Also Check food allergies, maybe something does nto sit well with you, that you just don't know about

stick with a THICK ass protein shake have it 1 HOUR AT MAX before training

try just having a Gatorade before

however if you puke, wait 5 minutes then have a half glass of gatorade and a half glass of water, eat a piece of fruit. Then lots more water youll be good to go about 10-20 after youu puke

I used to have the nausea as a "limit" a looong time ago. However, after years and years of excercise, specially after military training, I lost that "limit". Now I can eat a bowl of beans and sausage before doing legs and I won't puke. I can have cold sweat, extreme fatigue, my heart races at 200bpm, I can pass out but I won't puke.

I have has similar issues.
back in my early 20's at a small gym I worked out was really intense.
The guys had the motto squat till you puke.

I threw up 2 times and relized it was really do to not breathing correct and eating solid food to close to a leg workout.

Do not have the problem now.

Now I seem to have the opposite end happening. Some juicey farts.
I end up farting and tooting so much I often find myself running to the bathroom to take a shit.During sets.
I think its just the movement itself stimulates intestinal push forcing the crap out.

Thanks guys. I'll avoid eating too close to a workout and concentrate on my breating. Lets see how that goes :)

Hope everything works out for you.I have the same problem my self .I have to work out on a empty stomach. If i eat before a work out its coming up for sure.Bring some gum with you its helps me . :p

yeah i almost puke when i train legs too....your know ur training them hard when u feel like ur gonna puke....prolly just eat less before u train them hard

I never thought I would hear chaz say toot. LMAO!! I have the same problem. try breathing and not eating so soon before a workout.

Didn't your Momma tell you not to swim after eating? The same rule applies to training. How do you expect to properly digest your food if all your extra blood is pumped into your legs?
I suggest a smaller easier to digest pre work out feeding: 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 2 cups skim milk with 25 gr whey protein (finished) one hour before training. Then sip on some hot tea (and take a energizer of some sort) until it's go time.

:) ha ha ha you guys got me I said toot becuase its not really a fart it like a high pitched tooot.mixed in with the farts.

It draws some nasty attention.
Everyone in my gym hates me anyways.
I sweat all over the place,I fart and stink, some times I blow snot rockets on the floor. I wear dirty ol clothes and don't talk to hardly anyone.

The funny part about the toot'n and farting is I know when a big one is comming on .So I walk across to the water fountian and let a giant fart as I'm walking away .Then I sit back and watch some unsuspecting fool walk right into that mushroom cloud knowing that SOB just about gagged to death. It really amuzes me and is often the only time I even crack a smile at the gym.!!!
I usually time it so the fools are comming out of that faggity ass "spin" class and headed for the fountians.
I guess I should have more respect for those twiggy tooth picks .....NOT!...

you eat basically the same breakfast everyday ...right?

you only have issues on leg day ...right?

true the blood moving to the legs might have something to do with it too ...but sounds like you might just need to up your cardio conditioning

the task of digestion + the heavy oxygen demands of a leg workout might be asking too much of your existing cardio capacity

so either wait longer before your workout or up your conditioning

nausea is very common when you're trying to get into shape ...running sprints, suicides, etc. ...because your "work out" is demanding more oxygen that your body is conditioned to provide at that moment

...and if the nausea persists ...smoke a "J" on leg day
