I had two friends that had early 90's.. they both seemed to spend more maintaining that car than it was worth.. finally they had to sell them b/c they were spending 5-6 grand a year just keep them running

Hmmm, may have been the year(s) I have an E36 a 98 and I have had no problems and my up keep has been routine maintenance (fuilds, tires, brakes) and parts to replace (like ball joints) from sheer wear and tear at 147k miles.

I had a pontiac and an olds that cost a fortune in constant and repeated repairs the 4 years that I owned each one (8 years total).

lexus and infiniti are both making cars that rival bmw's models and are MUCH more reliable that bimmers.

styling is a matter of personal taste...but the latest bimmers just don't do much for me.

Lexus has never made a car that was even remotely fun to drive, and Infiniti has done one.

sez you...someone stuck in 1969 listening to bealtes 8 tracks still...... :FRlol:

why wasn't the thread title just "i'm thinking about buying an older bmw"?

get one of the late 90's, not that expensive and still look pretty sleek. although watch the mileage because they're expensive to maintain

all european cars suck to maintain over the long run (cost wise)
