The Strecth Mark Thread

velvett said:

Has nothing to do with being skinny or fat or body type and you are right it is about elasticity and the quick stretching out of the skin. You could be a young teen with a growth spurt and get strech marks and you could obese and still not have stretch marks.

Take for example pregnant woman - some women get very large very deep stretch marks across their bellies and some women don't.

All in all they will eventually fade and discolor but they never go away.

But, isn't elasticity directly related to if you are fat or not? Meaning, if you are fat, over the years you have developed a more stretchy skin than someone that has been skinny all their life.

Could a woman with visible abs, possibly not have stretch marks after going through pregnancy? I would think it would be impossible, assuming she had the abs for a few years.

Maybe i'm wrong ...

She could very easily get stretch marks. If she has visable abes for years, her waist has been very small a long time, and the skin on her waist line will stretch a considerable amount during pregnancy. If she is prone to stretch marks she will almost certainly get them from this. Stretch marks are caused by gaining size in a certain area faster than the skin can adapt and grow to keep up.

Exactly, this is what I was trying to say.

If someone was fat, losses the fat, and starts to gain muscle ... he won't gain stretch marks cause the skin is already stretched.

Believe it or not. . .stretch marks are typically an indicator of rapid weight gain and poor nutrition.

poor nutrition? exactly what is it that you need to prevent them?

I have many small ones on my delts and the inside of my left arm.

I've got real ugly ones on my lower back. Looks like someone beat me with a whip. I also have them on my hips.

I got them as a teenager when I had a growth spurt.

No.

You can be skinny or fat and have poor elasticity.
You don't just develop "stretchy skin" - if you are obsese your skin is stretched out and it doesn't mean you will have stretch marks.

Visible abs doesn't gurantee no stretch marks - that's kinda funny.

Skin is skin the condition and future condition of your skin is already predeterminded. Having abs, being obese or skinny does dictate how your skin will response - it will change the conditions of your skin but not change the response.

Hope that makes sense - I can't really find a good way to explain that.
