Hannibal and the Romans had one day battle casualties exceeding 70,000 on at least three occasions. Can't be proved one way or another.

We'll just agree to disagree. I take military history personally since I took graduate level classes as an undergrad at was arguably the best military history program in the US at the time.

Professor Guilmartin was my mentor.....he showed up drunk to my "History of European warfare" final and I scored a 698 out of 700 on the exam...lol. BTW, his TA served with my cousin in Desert storm....LC commanding a missile frigate....

when was it decided that 'wars' had to have basic technologies, or contained caveman style hand to hand combat?

we're stronger, cuz we got way better technology now. if spartans had m1 tanks, bet your ass they would use them. but they didn't. we do. cuz we're smarter.

so that's a bad comparison. that's like asking : "Who had the best medicine in human time?"

We could destroy any army of any era now. We just can't fight guerilla warfare, aka 'the invisible army' now. which is less war, and more 'bad guys in your neighborhood causing shit'.
