MM, sorry to hear this. I have high BP too. the doc put me on diovan. I find out on monday if it worked. makes me nervous.

Why does my Altace say not to use a salt substitute? I'll be the first to admit I am salt addict. Been using seasoned pepper, which is actually pretty decent. Just didn't understand why I can't use a salt sub with this medication??

Got it from Red Iron Pump and Supply as a promo thing. We get all kinds of stuff in the patch lol. Give it a try if you are cutting back on salt too.

Salt substitutes usually contain potassium. ACE-inhibitors decrease the amount of potassium excreted in your urine, so if you eat a lot of bananas, tomatoes, potatoes, or other potassium containing foods or supplements, you could become hyperkalemic (high amount of potassium in your blood), which can make your heart stop.

For most people that have normal kidney function, this shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you eat in moderation those foods high in potassium.

Hypertensive Crisis is the Dx.

I finally broke down today and went to the doctor to get some meds for this sinus infection.

Going through all of the usual tests she takes my blood pressure.

All she says is "wow". Tries the other arm, this time silence, then "excuse me" with a solemn look on her face.

Comes back with another doctor who takes me for chest xrays, straps me up to an ekg and wants me to fill a cup.

Apparently, my BP meds aren't doing their job. 190/154

So I got new meds, have to quit drinking, change my diet to try and get it under control or she said I would be dead within a year.

I love doctors. To top it off my back is all tweaked out again and my arms are getting tingles and going numb. Good times.
