Tell me what you guys think

I know I still have alot of training to do, that's why I took a guy up on training with him and his Bro's on Sundays, none of these guys placed lower than second at the last meet I went to.

Anyway these are my #'s;
Bench:355 (with a single ply 2 sizes too big)
Dead: 405, (no hardcore suit, just a wrestling singlet)
Squat: 405,(no hardcore suite, wrrestling singlet only)

Now I have been training, not as a powerlifter, for 2 1/2 years and as a P.L. for just a few months, since June. My stats are 6', ecto/mesomorph body frame, 215lbs around 13%bf. I have been told these are good lifts but a guy also told me at the meet that he thought I would do more as I looked big and he expected me to squat more.

Any thoughts?? Any training articles or pointers on how best to train for heavier deads and Squats?

Nothing wrong with those numbers. Very impressive for starting out.

I lifted in my first meet at 215 lbs bodyweight and benched 355 as well. 12 months later I benched 480 at that same meet. 2 months after that I benched 500 in a meet.

And anyone who says he expected such and such cause of the way you looked has probably not been around powerlifting long. What a person looks like has little to nothing to do with what they will lift like. I am constantly outlifting people who are much bigger and with more impressive physiques, and just as often have my ass handed to me, especially in the deadlift, by people who are smaller than me and are not nearly as physically imposing.

I will tell you this. If you are really and truly planning on being a success in powerlifting, you are going to have to get a lot heavier. 6 foot tall is very tall for a powerlifter. 6 footers are typically 275ers, or more. Screwball is six two and 300ish, bigokie is six five and 300ish and getting bigger all the time. Hannibal is six one or two and in the neighborhood of 270, Irishpower is five nine and 270ish. I am five seven or eight and 230+ at the moment. DG21 is six foot or six one and almost 300 as well.

But very good numbers to start off with, for sure. As to how to get your squat/deadlift up. I would strongly recommend going to the articles section of elitefts.com and reading every thing there. Paying particular attention to any articles written on the squat by Louie Simmons. Box Squatting, Squatting From Head to Toe, Training the Back, are a few that come to mind.

Good luck and welcome to the world of powerlifting.

I know what you mean regarding size. Some of the smaller guys blew me away with their lifts! One Bro' look like a bit of a runt, cut up and lifting in the 168 weight class, and he had a combined total of just under 1500lbs and won best overall lifter!!!

I know I need to weigh more and I am eating as best I can but it has always been hard for me to get & keep quality weight. Thanks again for the input Bud!!
