Last week was Ozzfest, and Ill tell you this, Sanitarium BLEW Ozzy and his show off the planet. Mudvayne, who I have never seen before, only heard a bit on the radio, was good live. Very fun, and the crowd was totally into them from the start.
Second was The Deftones. BOOOORRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGGG. If there was room to lie down, I woulda taken a nap. No fun, and their music sucked. PEE AND BEER BREAK! Well, for me it was a hard lemonade break cuz beer is the shittiest, nastiest thing ive ever tasted. Next to when my wife tries to cook. Ouch! Ahhh, I shouldnt complain, shes trying, and getting better at it each time out. She dont burn the eggs no more at least.
ANYWAY, third was Linkin Park. They sound exactly like they do on their CD, which isnt a bad thing. Great show, lots of energy, the crowd(myself included) loved them. #2 of the night, easy. Everyone made it a point to thatnk Metallica after their set, but when Linkin Park mentioned Limp Biskit, the place went berserk! with boos.
Fred Durst took the stage to massive "FUCK FRED DURST" chants. Everything he did, we booed the shit out of them, booed them off stage. And those fucs had the nerve to try (try in its loosest meaning) to play Sanitarium. Which didnt exactly go over to well with us. Ill give him credit, he tried. He tried his little pop star lovin heart out. But Fred Durst still sucks, and so does his band. Remember whe he wasnt such a bitch and the band was good?
Heres where it got hairy. Limp finished about 7:30, after like a 30 min set.? We were crammed into the raceway like sardines. There was a big open area right in front of the stage, where the first 1000 there were given wrist bands and enjoyed the luxury of being able to sit down, relax, not have to fight with people for 3 inches of space in front of you. Then there was a barricade, and thats where me and my wife were, about 7 feet off the barricade. Girls were getting squashed, and the smaller ones up in the very front of that barricade had to be pulled over and let out. There was NO room to breate, let alone move. And it was just getting tighter. And hotter, and more aggravating because I was thirsty as hell, and my back was soooo stiff fron standing there.
So FINALLY at 9 pm Metallica hit the stage, and instantly everything was cool. People backed off, chilled out, and Metallica just rocked. The pits were insane all night, when they were on everyone just went nuts. I dont think there is a single band that puts on a show like they do. If you hvent, see them live. Then you will see why they are where they are. Didnt miss a step with the new bassist, who in my opinion, is actually better than Newstad was. He just fits better with them. And hes a big mofo too. they played for over 2 hours, and it wasalmost completely old school. Seek and Destroy, One, Harvester of Sorrows, For whom the Bell tolls, Nothing Else Matters, Sad but True, Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, and yes, they too did Sanitarium, the way it should be played. The only stuff they played off of the new CD was St. Anger and Frantic, and then fuel off of reload. Everything else was off of the Black album and before. EXCELLENT, AWESOME, PHENOMINAL!!!!!! They are the best band out there right now, nobody puts on a better show. A big ass production with all the fireworks, flames, explosions, and all the guys were all over the stage. just awesome.
All in all, the show had a few downsides, but the positives far outweighed the negatives. This was the best concert I have ever been to. Ive seen the band a few times before but this time just blew away everything ive ever seen. Everyone, check it out if its coming by you.
