A very nice co worker of mine just got a trainer. It is worrying me though, because she has her doing like 60-100 reps of everything (they did upper and lower body ) with light weights!!!!

She told me the trainer said that was the optimum way to "cut and have muscle definition"

um, what a crock!!

I told my friend to at least have the trainer teach her all different exercises for each body part, then ditch her and do 3 heavy sets of 8 reps instead.....

I told her the right thing...right??

Well, depending on the person, anywhere between 5 & 15 reps is good for growth. But yeah, 60-100 reps with light weight is just a waste of time. If she wants that sort of thing, she can just take an aerobics class...at least then you get music and cameraderie.

I am w/wend - depending on the exercise and the type of person - you are ok with 8-15. Sometime you can do some burnouts on leg extensions and start w/like 35-40, but that is for legs only.

60-100 reps - totally crap.

You know, the only thing that could make any sort of sense re this is if the trainer is meaning for her to produce lactic acid a la HST, to toughen up before she starts lifting heavy. But even with that, you only do 15 reps. Besides, I imagine s/he would have said SOMETHING to that effect.

So, I guess the trainer DOES have a bad case of rectal-cranial inversion...

I have used 100 rep schemes before to shock muscles, but for a very short period of time...would not recommend for a beginner!!!!! your looking at 2 weeks on- at most....it was popular back in the late 80s, early 90s....

It is called 'trainer wanting to look busy' and 'trainer wanting to make a buck' and 'trainer wanting client to feel speshal'
I have seen this at my gym and wanna gaaaaaag
