Stupid in America: Why your kids are probably dumber than Belgians [news item]

That included school housing.

Why isnt it affordable? I did it with a combination of student loans and an actual work ethic.

I'm not even sure why this is even being argued... Not when you can go to a state school and pay 2200 a year. You're learning the same shit. Chemistry is chemistry wheather you pay 2200 or 22000. Biology is Biology. Physics is Physics.

I paid 22000 because I was going to a muscic school and I wanted to be taught by certain people. There was a reason I paid that and it wasn't to get out of the public school system.

Any no my 20k does not include room and board. This is just tuition.

I graduated in a class of 38, 39 if you include the Junior that graduated early. Tuition was needs tested. If your parents couldn't pay all of the tuition it was picked up by the Parish. All the Catholic Parishes in Lycoming County, PA funded the school. There were plenty of poor people going to the school. Besides the poor, 4 scholarships were given to students at the elementary schools based on an aptitude test. Private schools are affordable, if you know where to look, and are willing to put forth the effort for your children.

I didnt want to be in a class with 700 other students. Some folks see the value in a more personalized form of education. Other people despise it, so its really a matter of preference.

Ive sat in on a couple of state school classes with a bunch of my friends during my college years, and I honestly cant see why (if given the choice) anybody would choose state vs private. Again, thats just me.

700 people in a class is a stereotype more then anything. Yes that happens in 100 level classes such as freshmen english or a prerequisite that everyone must have. Once you get into the 300 and 400 level classes and above , there's no difference then a private school.

One more thing I want to say-

Belgium is overeducated from an economic standpoint. such a high % of adults has a college/university degree that it´s far from enough anymore to secure a job. Some get a degree, then end up doing menial labour since nobody´s hard up for anyone with that degree.
