Striking Ability and the muscles involved

I was planning to train for strength using a generic WSB program, but then it occured to me that maybe training as a PL in the three big lifts (bench, squat, deadlift) would be less optimal than another method.

What exercises should one look to become particularly strong in to become a great fighter? I plan on focusing the most on Muay Thai and BJJ, so anything that will enhance those two arts would be a godsend.

I'm sure squats would be good, but I can't see benching and deadlifting being as ideal as say, power cleans or other olympic lifts, or possibly bentover rows or military pressing. I just need a general idea of what's important, and possibly the set and rep ranges which follow.

I think you have to focus on explosive stregth, being able to generate force very quickly. Being able to propel body parts across to an opponent very quickly and with plenty of torque... Thats what you have to focus on.

it depends
if you can get perfect setup and have the time you can use a lot of your major muscles to throw a punch
you will rarely ever be able to do that aside from pad work

but one big thing to tell you is to train your core
if you have strong abs (and lower back) the rest of your body will be able to perform better
