Social Workers Take Children Away Because Mom's IQ Test Too Low

a few yrs ago there was a mother that was caught swiming across the columbia river with her 18 mo old daughter, she kept custody but was was being monitored but still murdered her daughter shortly afterwards

what business is it of the state's? if the children are not being abused or grossly neglected, what right does the state have to come in and take the children away?

raising children is not as simple as to just say they are'nt being abused or neglected so they are fine

can she learn to check the bath temp everytime so she does'nt burn them or leave them for a few minutes to drown

can she cook? or even use a microwave and lets hope she does'nt use the micro to heat the botles up

with a 53 IQ I'm surprised she can take care of herself, more likely the kids would be taking care of themselves

there is this crazy lady that lives in the street here pushes a cart around talking to herslf, she has had two kids and they were taken away from her, can you imagine what misery her kids would endure even if she did'nt neglect or abuse them

nowhere did it say this lady was a bad mother or a lousy parent, nor did it say she doesnt cook, feed, clothe, etc her kids. it simply says the state took away her children because she scored poorly on an IQ test (i dont know where people are getting this 53 number). for all we know, maybe she is illiterate thus she scored poorly on an iq test due to the fact she can't read.

regardless, if her kids are healthy, well fed, and taken care of it doesnt matter how smart or stupid this lady may be. IT IS NONE OF THE STATE'S FUCKING BUSINESS.

im not sure if IQ has any definintive control over maternal care.....none of the tasks in an IQ test are that a mother has to face....any problems and she could bring in a more intelligent person, not to mention the father could help (though women with supposedly higher intelligence pro-create with the social equivalent of horse shit)

not enough info given with the article....her social support network is very important, and if she WAS alone, had past evidence of poor judgement/neglect then it seems prudent to remove the kids for their benefit. it should be a last resort and i hope it was

I agree the article gave very little information on why social sevices got involed in the first place,mostly the article quoted the womans atty, who is of course biased.

Do you think every parent in Norway is required to take an IQ test? I don't, but the article does'nt say why this women was required to take one

I agree, if she is illiterate the test should have been given to her verbally

How does anyone know how well these kids are taken care of?

I have an X-brother in law that has a low IQ that actualy gets SSI because of mental disability. The thing is by talking to him you would think he is normal, talks normal good, sense of humor but can not take care of himself. He is a diabetic and ends up in the emergency room a couple times a yr with a 500 bg level so how the hell would he take care of a kid?
