I had a Samoyed once...female, friendliest dog in the world, she even looked like she was smiling all the time. Anyway, once I brought her with me to a client's shop (sold music, pagers, cell phones, and pipes & bongs). Ran by a black guy, in the ghetto, with almost 100% black customer base.

He saw my dog in the truck and told me to bring her in. I brought her in and 3 HUGE black guys started screaming and jumped the counters and hid while screaming, "get that dog outta here man!" Funniest thing ever.

I also had a 110 lb., husky/shepherd...if I was walking these dogs somewhere, any black people in the area would always move back and watch us go by.

although...a lot of them seem fond of pitts and rotts though. Scared shitless of German Shepherds though (maybe cuz police use them?).

Tipping by definition implies a choice, left to the customers discretion. It's clear that usage of the word in the US has outgrown its actual meaning. The service staff wage deficit, better known worldwide as a 'service charge' of usually about 10% which is automatically added to your bill, is a more fitting term. No confusion, assuming, no social stigma, no explaining things to visitors with different skin colours, no drama.

In answer to the original post, adding a set service charge policy during the festival period would sidestep the whole issue.

and where i am from the funeral business is totally segregated. the 2 major businesses scam everybody they deal with too. really take advantage of people at that time. of course he remembers names well and ask how everybody is doing....so they voted him in as State Representative..........

I tend to tip well and if the service is sub-par, I`ll tip them the recommended gratuity and never go there again. My wife ( who is white) always complains that I tip too much from time to time. I thinks that sometimes black people pinch pennies while tipping because they think you are already rewarded for doing your job. You don`t see a huge amount of black waiters= Blacks don`t relate to tipping well for required services.

You know.. it never occurred to me until I read that. I honesty dont remember the last time I had a black waiter... my wife and I eat out a lot and I cant remember a single one.

Strange.. especially since I live in So Cal.

Course'.. Id last 5 minutes as a waiter.. so any excuse for not taking that job would sound good to me LOL.

also with it being a service industry, it encourages wait staff to provider better service thereby being better for the owner in an indirect way. better service usually correlates to better business.

Waiters have to pay 8% on what they sell here in my province. So if Joe sold for $2000 last week, then the Revenu agency will take 8% of it no matter what the actual tip was.
