Shows like 'Extreme Makeover' and 'The Swan'

Next year they'll take 20 black guys who want to look white, and give them makeovers and surgery, and unveil their new "white" selves.

Then next show. Asians who are tired of their asian eyes, and want more caucasian eyes. Then we all vote on them in bikinis.

If I was a woman who had small saggy tits, an unusually high amount of cellullite (that could not be worked off at the gym), a big ass nose and horribly deformed teeth, fuck ya I 'd be all over that show getting that shit fixed for free.

im happy for the people that feel that their lives is changed for the better after getting thir makeover and hope they have adopted a better and healthier way of life from it.

Both, depending on how the person views it. One might view it with hope, knowning that things can be done to change the way they look, while another might view it with despair both as a reminder of their own percieved shortcomings and as well as believing that the amount of work necessary to make the changes is discouraging/impossible for them. :)

Makes sense.

I like the idea of taking someone and teaching them how to eat, how to exercise, how to dress themselves, how to do their hair, make-up if you're female and how project themselves positively even if it is from the outside to the inside.

Hilarious that this show is so disgusting, yet most people on this thread have watched it. Let's face it, all of you condemning these people would do the EXACT same thing in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. At least one person in this thread is realistic.

Most of the men in this country are married to fat or older women.

Imagine all the fights are gonna occur, after these fat, beer-drinkin' hubbies watch this show. Turn around and see their fat wife wearing rollers and baggy pants. I'm sure they'll look at them in a more positive light now.

So many husbands cheat -- cuz they get bombarded with "don't you want to FUCK this hot chick ONCE before you die? Look how HOT she is! Remember your college days? How nice, how FIRM!". And they get to bed with bloathar, feeling insecure and like crap.

A 42 y/o woman is not being bomarded with pictures of Fabio every day on her way to work. But the 42 y/o guy is bombarded with "this is waht a woman looks like" every day and eventually, through persuasion and constant mental bombardment -- the man eventually starts wishing for what he sees. It's only human.

Exactly.

Clearly you have never watched extreme makeover because they redo the flabby, bald, turkey waddled excuse for men that appear on the show.

Bottom line is - if someone thinks that looks don't matter they're either good looking or in denial.

My mom and dad are technically fat. i don't think if they were workout gods -- it would've made any difference in mine or their lives.

in fact i like my dad pudgy. makes him look like a huggable real dad. :)

Just shows how shallow society is. & I think it's horrible to know that there are kids/teens out there watching this who are going through a stage in their lives where they're very self-conscious & showing that we can change ourselves is the wrong message.
It's one thing if the person was born w/ a disfigured face (which I have seen a few shows like that), & needed surgery to correct it. Those people I think deserved it b/c they couldn't experience life w/out people pointing & poking at them & they just want to be like everyone else. But when it comes to people who they say are UGLY - that's horrible. Everyone is different & that's what makes us all special...tall, short, chubby, skinny - there's nothing wrong with it. I think people need to learn to accept themselves rather than going through such drastic procedures.
