Oi! :D

Competition Date = March 17, 2007
Show = San Diego Bodybuilding and Figure Championships (NQ)
Link = http://www.lindsayproductions.com/2007SD.htm

After weeks of very deep and profound thought, I have decided to hire a trainer I trust and believe in. Some of you may know him, and I assume he'll be making an appearance shortly. :D Just so you know how much I believe in the guy, my other option was Iris Kyle. They both charge about the same, so money was not the deciding factor.

I officially start tomorrow - December 1, 2006. At this time I would like to say goodbye to a few friends that are very dear to me:

popcorn with butter
molten chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream
Starbucks Lattes
ribeye steak

I will miss you. If my trainer doesn't killed me in the next 17 weeks, I will see you again.

--------

:D

alrighty. tomorrow, I'll post my weight, measurements, etc. I will log all my supps/aas/meals/training/cardio. I'll probably even tell you all about my work days. It will be just like watching your uncle's vacation movies to Niagra Falls on beta. You'll probably want to kill yourself before it's over.

So. I start tomorrow. I've got a busy day as it is - myncompany is laying asphalt and we have equipment problems. At 6am - I have to drive to Tucson and pick up a roller and get it back here before 9am. I'll talk atchoo tomorrow night.

When Shorty pmed me about this contest - I JUMPED at the chance to be a part of this. Some of you guys know that I had gotten away from "official" contest prepping females a while back. I have known Shorty on the boards for a while now and had always thought to myself "This woman needs to enter a show" - and had remarked to her that when she was ready, so was I.

I am extremely excited about the opportunity that lies ahead and I cannot express how honored I am that she chose me to work with(for those who may not know Iris is a Ms. International/Ms. Olympia winner).

No pressure, right??

;)

Everyone stay tuned - this is going to be one helluva ride!!

YEs she sure does... Cali is the one in charge of my two piece too :D

wow, i wish you the best of luck. i wish i was able to make it to the show. next mr o im there, this time i promise

You look amazing now so I can't imagine how you'll look at comp time..........

and you have :theshadow in your corner.........

you're gonna kick azz :garza:

I'm honored that you guys are intersted. :) Thank you.

Shadow - i met Iris at the O this year while working out at the gym. She got on the treadmill next to me at the Orleans - it was awesome. She started talking to me and asked me about my training. I met her again at the seminar and she gave me her number and asked for mine. I told her I wanted to do a show... She called me a few weeks later and I've emailed back and forth with her ever since.

I chose you because I feel I know you better - I've been following your diet and training advice since I came on EF in 2004...and it's worked for me. It's only natural that I continue with you. Iris is amazing - but I have very little knowledge about her training/diet/etc. What works for her may not work for me - and it's a risk I decided I didn't want to take.

So. You're stuck with me.

Today was a tough day. I was up at 5 and drove to Tucson to rent a roller. Drove back and jumped right into laying asphalt. We put down 100 ton today. This sounds like a lot, but it's not. Small job, but I had to rake sphalt all day - so I was pooped by 5pm.

...and wouldn't you know it, it's arm day today. lolol. Wooo Hoo! I was already feeling it before I got there. :D

Workout today:
Dips 4 sets of 10 - no assist. I was pushing 154 lbs. :D

Barbell/Preacher Curls. 4 x 10/70 lbs

Incline Curls - 3 x 10 with 2 second pause at stretch OUCH!! I had to drop down to 15lb dumbells.

Concentration Curls 3 x 10 with 2 second pause at contraction. 25lb dumbells.

Dumbell French Press - 3 x 10/35lbs with 2 second pause at stretch

Kickbacks - 3 x 10/15lbs with 2 second hold at contraction. OUCH!! again!

Amazing, the ouch factor when you take that 2 second pause. oi. Especially on the incline curls. They start to burn at the 5th rep.

No cardio. Shdow is waiting to see how my body responds to this diet (I think) before he puts the screws to me. :D

Are you guys both in CA? I have family in Socal ,(Laguna Hills) and have some bb friends there as well. Good luck. You can do anything in 17 weeks!

Fantastic job on the workout.......we will be pushing TUT as an intensity tool as opposed to pure weight to work around some of the specific exercise and joint issues.

I want anyone who is following along to please note:

This program is designed specifically for HER.
The supplements are designed for HER.
She is entering a BBing show - not fitness or figure.
I already have experience with her - so I know her body type and general metabolism.

In other words, any chicas considering/entering a show - do NOT follow this blog and expect to get the same results as Shorty.

It will not happen....she is so genetically gifted that what we are going to do would literally cripple 99% of us......

We are going to be ramping things up weekly........stay tuned.

We had been in contact for a while via pics email etc.

This will continue for the majority of the precontest phase.

She will be ready 3 weeks before the show date and we will try two different carb-up approaches to see how she responds to various factors. Chad Nichols and other trainers do something very similar. She is so advanced on everything that I have no doubts about exercise form, cheating on diet etc.

I am planning on being there show week however.

I owe my decision to MM - she made me feel like I could do it.

I've never really thought about being genetically gifted. lol. For bodybulding, OK. As a supermodel, no. :D Thank you all for the support. It means A LOT to me and I don't think I'd do as well without it.

I have support here at home, but it's more in the form of allowing me my space and time to get this done. Since I'll need to take a little more time away from work, Jeff will pick up my slack and has said "whatever you need for this competiton, you can have it". I can't really ask for more than that, so am happy he understands.

On the other side of it, tho - no one here at home REALLY understands what it takes to go through this (including me, probably :D), so support from all of you that KNOW is awesome.

OK - just so you know what's going on in my life besides this comp, in case a day comes when I seem a tad on edge:

1. I have to drive up to Prescott tomorrow because my dad is unwell. He's losing his mind as well as his bodily functions, and my mom is having a tough time coping. I'm going up there to take him to the VA Medical center. We're going to try and get him into extended care, because my mom can't handle taking care of him anymore, and I don't expect her to. He doesn't know where he is, and sometimes doesn't know the people around him. (My mom is already taking care of my son temproarily until I can get our house built down here. oi. ) If the VA can't take him, I'm going to have to find a nursing home for him.

2. My mom and my son living 5 hours away because our work has moved from Prescott to Sierra Vista. We just bough 8 acres down here - hasn't even closed escrow yet. When it does, we're going to build. It will take about 5 months - will be building seperate living quarters for my mom. In the meantime, Jeff and I are staying with a friend at his house. We're going to pick up our 5th wheel from the old job site after escrow close, and will live in it on our property until the house is built. I hate being away from my son. It sucks.

3. I recently passed my Dual Engineering test with the Arizona Board of Contractors. This means I can build bridges, roads, etc. I'm trying to get that finalized and we've formed a new company. Jeff and I are partners, so we're trying to run an excavation company and do a lot of the work ourselves, as it's hard to find employees. I just hired a foreman and he's awesome, so things should ease up for us. We've got A LOT of work lined up, and will be starting a big subdivision in January. We do all underground utilites, sewer, grading, roads, paving, etc. BUSY.

...and that pretty much sums up my life right now. :) It seems like I have a lot on my plate, but I do well under pressure...or so I've been told. Besides the situation with my dad, I'm very happy. I'll be even happier when I can get my family together in one place. I'm going to try and get my dad relocated to this area - there's a big VA in Tucson. If not the VA, I'll find a good, private nursing home here in Sierra Vista.

I feel good. energy levels are same or better, and food is adequate. I haven't felt hungry - except for last night without my chicken. :D ---but wasn't overly hungry. the almonds did the trick.

no bloating. i cut out all my salt, and haven't missed it.

am I allowed to drink a diet soda with a few meals, as long as my water intake is high? I'm drinking about gallon of water a day right now.

Yes you can.

QT and I were discussing this earlier......I am not a strict fan of dropping all artificial sweetners....if you look their components, they dont cause water retention on their own....

at any rate - we will drop that later on

You really won't have to do anything.

The shake as first meal after training works extremely well for whenyou ahve to re-arrange training to am.

If there is an issue with no food in the stomach.....you can eat a small portion of fruit(bananna or apple) with some pnut butter.....or even a small Detour LOw Sugar protein bar.

Yes...cooked portion on the oatmeal

yes! tht's what one vial of meanotan an laying by the beach for 10 days will do to a girl. I got teased by the jamaican staff that I should move there and becone one of them. :D

My thinking is that it would be great for contest. Less time in the tanning bed and fewer coats of protan = better skin and less mess for me.

What is this meanotan you speak of?

melanotan II. go to www.melanotan.org

in a nutshell:

it's a tanning agent invented and the University of Arizona. It was intended to prevent skin cancer - but it also seems to give men spontanious wood - so may be approved by the FDA as a sex drug. :D

you take sub-q injections via an insulin needle and get a little sunat the same time. You'll start to darken up pretty fast - (I over did it the first time) then you cut down to 1 shot a week to keep your tan with minimal sun exposure.

sides = feeling a little urpy at the beginning and loss of appetite. both go away after a few weeks. I've also noticed that I get a little stuffed up in the nose after each shot. the only other side is that you get all tingly in your nether regions - the equivelent of spontanious wood inguys, I guess. :D

melanotan II is approved for research purposes only, at the moment. it is not banned by any sports/bodybuilding organization.

with an afternoon workout, i get sore the next afternoon, or sometimes not til the 2nd day. the chest workout felt really good. i had to keep myself from doing more - it felt like i was just getting warmed up. lol I'm so used to doing high volume training, and my energy is way up from that rest over the weekend. :)

I feel really good. diet is workingfor me... abs are visible all day and wimmin at the gym asked me how I get them that way.

diet, baby.

NICE

We will be switching to all incline work soon.....I wanted to throw some flat stuff int here to see if the upper/outer pecs get sore....near the shoulder tie-ins.

Enjoy the lighter volume while you can

Next time tell the chicks that its the 1000 sets of sit ups you do 2x per day for the abs

*insert manaical laughter here*

I'm just gonna throw in a caveat here from my own evil experience this summer - you ain't a spring chicken and the cycles are great for muscle strength but be very aware of your joint strength. When that hits its max pt of strength which doesn't equal your muscle strength, you are officially screwed. Just make sure to listen to your body and avoid strains.

When you tell them do they question you or look at you like you're crazy? or going to tell them the 'real' secret? :)

It's such a transition from high volume I bet. Great work TSO.

You are so motivating. Thanks for that :rose:

everyone who's asked me about my abs (and I get this question alternated with "how do I get legs like yours"1-2 times a week) roll their eyes and say "oh, I know!! it's just so hard to eat right! I just don't have time! {use whiny voice when reading this to yourself}

as far as the training goes - yes, I'm used to high volume, but the 2 second pauses he's got me doing are no joke. I've had to lighten my weight on a few different exercises so I can handle it. ...and I don't like getting into a rut, so this all feels good to me. I feel the torture will be coming soon enough. :D

I'd like to tell you that I've been doing high volume training for some scientific, smart sounding reason. The truth is that I LOVE it, and that I don't feel I've gotten a good workout unless I have the shakes so bad I have to sit down. I've gotten used to spending at least 1.5 hours in the gym (cardio not included), and sometimes 2-3 hours (leg day, for instance). All for no other reason than that I'm addicted to it.

---------------------------------------------

took my dad to the VA today. they've accepted him into the dementia unit, but it's temporary. they did a cat scan today and also chest x-rays. he's got pneumonia , so they're keeping him in the hospital until it clears up. alzheimers will show up in the scan if his bran has atrophied.

i spent the day going through his finances and filling out paperwork at the VA. I have medical power of attorney, so am trying to find a good nursing home for him that will accept his state & VA benefits.

I'm happy they're taking care of him, but it's sad. I get all my spunk and hard-headedness from my dad. We've always been close. Now, he looks right through me, and thinks that my mom and I are out to get him, or puthim away some where and desert him. :worried:

ugh.

i've been having trouble with my shoulders and elbow joints for a while now. i remember what i did, but can't tell you when it was - maybe 5 months ago. i did a long chest workout and tried to bench as much as I could (which wasn't a whole lot - bench is my weakest). the next week after, I hurt SO BAD in my shoulder and elbow joints. after that, it didn't really go away much. got-better-got-worse. I started taking deca a and the joint pain went away completely. only side I've experienced is a little acne on my shoulders - nothing bad.

I've also dislocated my right shoulder several years ago, and it will always haunt me. i try to stay away from shoulder work that involves straight arm lifts just a slight bend at the elbow makes a world of difference.

i feel young, but i know i need to be careful.

Shorty if you have someone in your area that does ART I suggest getting a couple of sessions I FUBAR my shoulder 2 years ago now and still get the odd flair up but ART and DC extreme stretching has helped a lot. I know yoga has signicanltly helped some of the pains I was having in my hips/glutes/hams.

does you have access to a pullover machine....they allow a good degree of bend at the elbow??

Hey, Girl....I'm really sorry to hear about your dad......

I have problems with my shoulder too. Just won't go away, but there is a DC stretch that supposedly will cure pretty much any shoulder pain (that being if there has been no surgery involved in the past). I keep forgetting to try it tho....

SERIOUSLY considering the melotan :D

no. (and i looked up a picture of one to be sure. :D) at least, not at my regular gym.

i will look today at the gym here in prescott. i went in on monday and asked if they'd sell me a pass for the month because I didn't want to drop $10 every time I went in (will be here at least this week).

the guy sold me one for $20, because "i've seen you here before and know you're serious." that made me feel good.

also - chest did not get sore. (i felt the burn in my chest while working out - so know I was doing it right...)

I'm pretty pain free today all the way around.

Couple supp suggestions for joints -- MSM / glucosamine / chondroitin caps and you can also get MSM cream for topical - You can get it at GNC and it doesn't smell funny. Also a friend (another oldster lifter like me) swears by liquid minerals.

Also for shoulders, don't know if you do this already - actually for anything that hits my rotator I do warmups - cable "inside / outside" - cable at waist height, very light weight, tuck elbow close to your side, face away from the cable and pull mid to front x15-25, back to mid x 15-20 - both arms both mid to front / mid to back - one is a pull, the other is a resistance.

Also my chiro recommended light DB front raises but more to 45 degrees to each side than to directly in front.

Has seemed to help a lot, but basically once you hose your rotator, you're done. The other thing w/ shoulders is when they start to hurt then other muscles start to activate to protect / compensate for the achy muscles -- then you get all sorts of spazzed up muscles.

Age sucks. At this point a hyuge part of it is preventative maintenance.

i need to start warming them up - and wil try your ideas out. Jeff gave me a move to do and my rotators have improved from it.

same arm form as if you were doing a one arm french press - elbow pointed up, arm bent with dumbell behind head. leave the arm in the bent position and rotate the shoulder until dumbell is pointed up and tricep is parallel to ground (or elbow inline with shoulder). 15-20 reps per shoulder. I've been using 10-15 pounds for this and it has helped strengthen.

I've have a shoulder problem forever, I jammed the joint, damaging my rotator cuff (believe it or not, goofing around slam dancing with hubby) and that has caused me a lot of problems as I've gotten older. For me side DB lat. raises helped hugely, but I can't do them very heavy (I started out at 5 lb. and THAT was tough, then I was so proud of myself when I got up to 10 lbs!!!).

Little changes can make a lot of difference, e.g., I can't do a barbell shoulder raise, that irritates it, because my damaged shoulder needs to work in a very slightly different angle than the healthy one, so I do DB raises.

I have problems with the tendons around my elbows, but that all stems from my work, on the plus side my job has never irritated my carpal tunnel, but on the minus overworking seems to give me tennis elbow

Ain't getting older a joy *sigh*

Also the deca may be great now but once it is out of your body you may still have issues w/ the joints. One thing about AAS is that it takes care of a lot of stuff but doesn't necessarily "fix" it forever. In a conversation one day Anthony Roberts commented that the worst "side" about AAS use by women is the "addiction" - not just the strength & the look, but the feeling of well-being, the recovery, the ability to endure so much more. Then when it is out of your system, suddenly you aren't "superhuman" any more....

oi. i've thought about that. i have a friend who gets cortizone shots in her hip -she's got a load of medical problems - andI tease her about it. "now, you can hurt yourself and not feel it!" we laugh about it, but I know it's no joke...

i've never pushed through the "bad" pain. if something doesn't feel right, I stop. when i first started hurting, i cut WAY down and gave myself a break - almost 3 weeks, and felt much better when I started up again. I've told shadow about my problems, so together we should be able to work something out that won't be damaging.

I'm sure I'm telling you stuff you already know, but given the scope of my experience this summer - 3 months later & literally at least a month off I still have problems I expect I will never not really recover from.
