Serious Injury-How to Keep Muscle Mass?

LftHndPwrHouse

Last Thursday at the gym I tore the lowest muscle on the right side of my back. The Doc also said I did some Tendon damage.

Today is the first day i can sit in a chair. I have spent the last few days laying on my footon.

I am going to assume that i will not be able to train for the next month or more. I am wondering if there are any products out there that can help me keep muslce mass?

I hard that large amount of ammino acids are good. Is this true. What are some other suggestions you guys can think of?

Now that i am home for who knows how long i will be able to keep a perfectly strict diet.(no excuses to stray away). High protien and low fat will be my main focus. I will use R-ALA to help convert carbs.

Thanks alot

Eat a well balanced diet. You don't need to jack protein through the roof. In fact, less training (or none) means you simply will not be ablr to take advantage a higher level. DO NOT OVER-RESTRICT FAT INTAKE. In fact, hit some extra omega's while you are recovering.

Don't rush you're recovery. Yep, your muscle will atropy a bit - but not nearly as much as they will if you fuck up your recovery!

When you get back to the gym, and as you EASE back into training, you will find that it does not take long to reach the level where you left off.

Good luck and a speedy recovery to you!

Products... NO... but getting into the gym as soon as possible... YES.

I've had several screw ups over the years. The thing that has always been a constant is that getting back in the gym as soon as possible really helps.

You may not be able to do much... but doing anything is better than nothing.

Almost forgot...

As far as products for recovery go, a simple vitamin and mineral sup is number one. Also, creatine has been used clinicaly for it's muscle sparing/anti-catabolic effect. (You don't need much, and the sup companies recomend more than you need.)

Soe, 5 grams of Glutamine before going to bed and some other grams as soon as you wake up will help you spare muscle.

Personally, I'd kick in some deca or nanphenyl. Like said above, get back into the gym when you are able; up until that point perhaps try static contractions if they're not too painful. Be sure to eat enough for maintenance.

Lots of rest at first ,then ease back into training.

Sofa George is right get back in as soon as" possible".

Do not rush things. Start off with light stretching and warm up at first then hit some very light weights.

I tore a muscle in my lower back a couple of years ago doing squats with relatively light weights (265) but did not warm up properly.

My doc told me it would take about 6 wks for it to completely heal and he was right.

So good luck and hope your feeling better soon.
