It's an internet meme coming from some political sign that read "RESPECT ARE COUNTRY" or something. You can probably google the phrase. Synonomous with "country" or "rural", but often used to refer to the less intelligent breeds of rural country folk.

what did you used to do with your friends when you had them?

Hang out, do stuff, break into lighthouses, argue and debate stuff, work out, get drunk, play pool, inject steroids, hit on girls, make boats and set them on fire, go hiking, do metal stuff, narrowly avoid trouble, break walls down, get guns drawn on us at work while we're handcuffed, etc. Just normal stuff.

If you're wondering if I'm an IRL nerdvirg with mathnerd friends, that's just EF schtick. I don't have any academic friends back home... most of them never went to college.

Yeah, we got those down here too, I just wasn't familiar with the term. Rural folk are a different breed, that's for sure. I had to deal with them occasionally at my previous job, and also whenever I have to interact with my stepmom's family.

One of the more infuriating parts of having to deal with Country Music shows was that it seemed like the entire genre had devolved into a weird Rural Lifestyle Affirmation ritual. It seemed like every song was about how "country" the songwriter was. But the bartenders sold lots and lots of cheap domestic beer, those folks'll drink up a lot of Bud Light and Pabst. But they sure look funny with their ironed, creased blue jeans, loud cowboy shirts, and license-plate-sized belt buckles, and they never take off their hats. I think I felt even more alienated by these crowds than I did when we had Black shows.
