Re: Treils 2006 Competition Log

SEP 26 2006
Mood = Good
Soreness = Ham and glute soreness, pants that fit this weekend could hardly get up over the bootayyyy I liked this change of pace work-out, thaks S

Food = Same lay-out as yesterday...
You know PB tastes so much better when you CAN taste it... Well all food does

Notes:
Gym
- Need to take new pics.. not necessarily posting them in here.. because I don't need
to right now.
- Need to do measurements
- NO2 seems to be working well. Tried full scoop yesterday and really got the pump
affect. I  NO2

Life
- Volunteering at the Sally Ride festival this weekend... Going to get to show my nerdiness with Kaleidoscopes, prisms, and optics.
- Taking an Instructor position at the massage school
- No more Training, well not getting paid for it at this time
- Retake NSCA test Dec 2
- Hot/Cold stone massage cert Oct
- Have Massage State cert by the spring
- Possibly officially get biz license and open up out of the house by Spring, depending on life

*Mom is doing lots better, I forgot to say thanks Flor for asking. She looks like she has lost more weight to me. She is a size 14 now, was a size 20 April 2004. It has taken awhile to get weight off as she has a lot of health issues so slow and steady has been the goal. It's been a great learning experinece for me in both training and massage therapy. What works.. what she can handle.. What massage ellicits a healing response, and what massage would be detrimental per her health issues. Many people don't realize that massage can be contraindicated for some people and actually have adverse sides if not practiced correctly.

Re: Treils 2006 Competition Log

Nice job T - glad the booty is doing well.

Congrats on your Moms......I know how much that means to you.

Hang in there - it seems your busy season is upon you...much like mine is these days. Stay focused and remember that life isnt all about work - although is seems like it at times

Re: Treils 2006 Competition Log

I am happy your mom is doing better

I didn't know that about massage, learn something new everyday!

Sally Ride, was that the first female astronaut?
Glad you're feeling better.
All these certificates for your, um, certification. Do you need to requalify periodically, or just once?
If you hang out a shingle, I'll stop by for a massage, if ever I'm in the area. Umm, what region are you in?

Yep first American Women in Space
I have to requalify for most of those yearly... The only one will be the state massage cert which will be a one time test as long as I practice for 5 consecutive years'. I live by Detroit.. I can't hang a sign out on my door.. against the community rules... but I can still have a legal biz as long as it has closing hours, only 2 cars in the driveway at once, and you can't see any type of business going on from the street. So I am golden.

Yeah that is high I even think for a gym!!! Maybe a spa would charge that...

They say Deep tissue what does that entail?

Also... just for anyone out there reading this... Just because someone works as a massage therapist does not mean they went through school or are certified. My state imparticular does not require state licensure to practice massage. So check credentials or else you could be paying someone money who has never been through any formal training. I don't know about you... but the only one touching me not trained in massage would be a guy I'm dating.

Average massages very in price. Some places will offer package discounts. If you have an injury it's best to get the package deal. If you want a relaxation best to just probably by the one time visit. Some places also will allow your insurance to cover the massage. Just because this is another cheap route does not mean the massage quality will be good. Most therapists who are good will not bother with insurance companies because of the wait period to get paid.

Typical pricing for an hour:
$50-$60 for relaxation/swedish
$65 Foot reflexology types
$70-$100 for deep/Neuro-muscular/or other specific work
$75-$95 for stone

You may find cheaper rates with someone who practices out of their house because you don't have to pay the overhead cost of what the company they work for will charge. Also, depends on the years' of experience of the therapist per what they charge. The director of our school charges $100 an hour, but she is worth every dollar!

To find a qualified therapist in your area look at the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) website. Only qualified individuals with reputable names will be a memeber of this.
