for now

i had surgery on my elbow to fix a problem and made another

Had a dislocation in MA and everytime i'd bench im elbow would disclocate so i had replacement surgery where they removed my palmaris tendon and reconstructed my lateral collateral.

I just recently found out that that particular tendon is vital to your grip strength. I have severe numbness in my pinkie and ring finger on my left arm. I've gone from being able to dl 290 to not being able to hold 20lb dbs with out losing my grip

dammit, sucks

so in my last visit to my do for my migraines i asked him a ton of questions and leared that that particular tendon has a lot to do with the grip strength. And though in time it will grow back its gonna take years to get it back. It grows a mm per week ......... and that would be good.

Im so fucking discouraged!

Hang in there girl. Remember life throws bullshit at us all daily. We just have to take it day by day. When we get knocked down we get right back on our feet. Hang tough we all know you can do that. Somebody is always worse of then we are. Good luck!

im not giving up but im so disgusted.

i wanted to do a pl'ing comp this year but its not gonna happen
:(

Next time call me!

I've adjusted/braced/taped people with those conditions all the time.

CCEP Chiropractor in MD School.

Hey Frisky, don't be discouraged. I have to tell you that your injury will take a long time to heal, but I have been around a lot of the top PL's in the world and you can't even imagine what they work around. Also, my Bro - Quadsweep...he tore his tendons on his bicep (from his forearm) and that healed back stronger than before. He tore his friggin quad muscle, tendons, etc., right the hell off his knee and he just competed in 9/05 in a State BB show, taking 2nd place by 1 point to a guy who will turn pro.

So you see - this is a setback I know, but the high-level athlete does not heal like the average folks most ortho's are used to working with. The ortho where I live who worked with my brother and many other high level fitness competitors and BB who beat the shit out of themselves is truly amazed at the recovery of his patients, these athletes.

You will probably do his recommended therapy for about 2 sessions, after which you will then quit and make up your own which will be much more beneficial. The road to recovery will be what you make of it. Read this story for some inspiration and let us know how you are doing. Jim Hoskinson Story

thank you so much

I went thru physical therapy and it did nothing.. shortly there after i started feeling numbness in my hand and loss of strenght. I've done a ton of things to work my grip stregth but nothing so far has helped.

tonight i was able to shrug 3 45lb plates with ease but i had my straps on. was able to shrug 70lb db's but only with the straps too. I tried to do walking lunges with 20lb dbs and half way thru my left hand was slipping. Its not my strength at all.

Im not giving up thought. I want my 350dl and squat! I will get it

I will read the article

thanks so much :rose:

i have same injury from nerve damage but its on my right hand...exact same thing...however- this will recooperate as mine did, but not fully. you may heal better than myself. my grip strength in right hand is approx. 140ft lbs. left is nearly 200ft.lbs. my pinkie and ring finger remain 80% numb and down into my wrist...i was under the impression that nerves repair at 1mm per month- not week...is this correct?? or are you more accurate???

exactly what i feel.. total numbness in my finger. My doc told me best case would be 1mm per week but thats best case. i can be up to a month or longer.

they removed about a 8" of tendon so thats alot of growth to come. It will take years.

i've gone thru physical therapy and have tried everything to get it back but nothing works.

quadsweeps sis got there first - people who train and eat like we do heal a LOT faster than normal people. so shush and keep training around your injury, fatty ;)

FRISKY- im going to PM you. (again).. :)

thats very sad, i feel bad for ya. i dropped a chainsaw on my foot like a year and a half ago and severed two tendons. i had no dreams of powerlifting but i understand how you fill. always keep your spirits up, its the only way.

Commiserations, Frisky. All I can offer is that in a few short years' time you'll look back on this as just a bump on the road. Meanwhile, just keep trying whatever you can to work around it. Use straps while you must.
