Putting children on leashes

So I took the wife to the zoo today to see the Zebras and such when I made an observation:

Putting leashes on your kids is fucking stupid.

Maybe Im old fashioned, but what happened to holding the childs hand? Carrying the kid? Renting one of those radio flyer fuckin wagons they give out for a buck? Letting them walk right in front of you while keeping a close eye on them? If your argument to that is that its hard with multiple kids, well my response is that youre probably either a messican teenage or a lowlife if you have three or four kids who are all at the age that they would "need" a leash in the first place. Unless of course you had triplets or some similar situation.

To be fair, the majority of people I saw doing this were whitey trashes and messicans (all the kids were obese, too). Didnt see a single blaque guilty of this...they were more for the hand holding or letting your kids run around wildly and punching people in the back of the knee. Saw a few asians, but no indians and/or middle easterners. All of their kids were very well behaved. And they all had glasses.

Anyway, making the leash attach to some sort of animal backpack the kid wears (the backpack being a monkey and the tail being the leash) isnt kosher either.

You would never see my kids on leashes.

I got to pet the stingrays today, too.

When I was 5, my aunt and uncle took me to Show Biz Pizza (Now chuckie cheese).....My parents wanted me to wear one of those damn leashes.......My aunt let me take it off after we got around the corner. She's still one of my favorite family members.

and to make it clear, I'm not white trash, mexican, or obese.

I almost got into a fight at Disney for saying something about that shit. The mother and father snapped at me and I flexed my anger at them and they walked away. It broke my heart to see that kid on a leash like a fucking dog.
:Chef: :tuc:

I was seriously against it all when I had my kids. Never used one on either two of my oldest children (keep in mind #1 has severe adhd and was off the wall). However I broke down and tried it on my youngest who to this day is a severe pain in the ass boy, and I was ashamed of myself. I felt like such an ass after that. I mean imagine how it feels, even though theys little they still have feelings. The stupid harness thing sat in his diaper bag and was only used when the kids wanted to play with it, other than that it stayed right there. Ands ytill to this day I don't agree with them at all.

Yeah I just hold my sons hand (or put him in a stroller as a smaller child) and told him that if he got away from me, a stranger would steal him. lol.
He's 10 and I still hold his hand in parking lots. im so paranoid about him walking in front of a moving car.

I hear ya, thats what I told my kids as well. Yeah I don't hold my 10 yr olds hand, however in a parking lot I try to walk on one side and his father on the other. Cannot trust people to pull out and actually look. I have seen so many idiots especially in big parking lots, it is ridiculous the amount idiocy that they show!

Leashes are fucked-up, but do keep in mind the times in which we live. Lots more psycho's out there today because we increasingly victimize their behavior instead of criminalizing it.

If I had a 3-8 year old running around in a park or zoo, my inclination would be to put a GPS locater on him. I'm already thinking about sticking an iPhone 3G on my 9 year old just because of its built-in tracking capabilities.

I walk my bitch's on leashes

Bitch:
1. a female dog.
2. a female of canines generally.

At first I thought you might be talking about women, but considering you couldn't score in a whorehouse with pocket full of c-notes I knew there had to be another meaning behind this post.

The more the leashes the better, whatever it takes to keep these little fuckers under control.
We should take it to the next level and get some hand-cuffs and shackles if they still don't listen.
It should be illegal not to have a leash on your kid. Mace, tazers, rubber bullets... whatever it takes.

Common sense.

Im loving it.

I disagree.
All normal kids (2 - 5) are impulsive. A leash keeps them from tearing off and getting hurt - not to mention irritating the fuck out of everybody else.
I wore one (I don't actually remember wearing it, but I've seen it) and I might be borderline white trash - but my parents aren't. Perhaps overly protective, but well meaning for sure...

You wouldn't have a problem putting your dog on a leash. Let's face it. The average dog is WAY smarter and better mannered then the average toddler - lol.

I didn't leash my kids, but there were times where I really wanted to leash them.

However, I'm glad to know that you know what it's like. But hey, I sometimes talk about American politics. :D

putting leashes on white kids is only entertainment for us niggas. no wonder white kids grow up and shoot up the school or kill their parents with an axe at night since they have been treated like a german shepard since they were 3 yrs old

I cant wait for the day there is a school shooting in the south side of chicago and my cousin has his .38 on him and he guns down the shooter. even with an unreg. gun he would still be a hero.

Indeed.

I live in Chicago so let me know what school he goes to so I can stay away that day.

I dont go to the South Side too often, though. White Sox suck.

A while back I predicted that someday people would have IP addresses implanted in them at birth so you could track where they were/had been. Most said I was nuts. Reality is closer than once thought.

I had four children in five years and NEVER ONCE was something as inane and retarded as this an option for me.

.... but then again, WTF do I know?

I have grandchildren 5 and 9 and other who's 3....... I don't see the three year old much. The others stick to me like glue. I guess they like me cuz I am the one who hangs with them at the holiday's and stuff. My wife is older than I incase your wondering if I am old. She is quite a bit older :). But :( at same time, oh well... anyway.... Nobody would even get close because I carry, and am paranoid too, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

negro children know if you don't snap back when momma says to she will beat yo stupid ass like no tomorrow right there on the spot...won't care who sees.

So crate training your kids would be out of the question too? I mean whats cooler than living in a lil dog crate. Kids love that shit.

Call me crazy but how bout this... you hold their hand? And if you got more than two ('cause you have two hands) then you have the oldest hold the hand of the next youngest and you hold the baby's hand?)... oh shit if that don't work... you have the oldest hold the second child's hand and you hold the hands of the youngest two?!

Fuck, if you got more than 4 kids then, I am thinkin that the oldest is old enough to be responsible enough to be a good big brother/sister and you still have the same amount of hands and YOU DO YOUR JOB AS THE PARENT and know where your children are 99% of the time 'cause goodness knows you are allowed to blink and sure as shit, that ONE KID wanders off when you fukkin do (happened to me ONCE... was THE LONGEST 3 minutes of my life) well, they couldn't have gotten THAT FAR in 3 minutes...

Fuck fuck Fuck... are parents really THAT retarded?!?!?!?!

Oh wait... WTF do I know about parenting?

I carried my daughter everywhere and ended up with a nice case of tennis elbow for like 9 months.

I would frequently carry my baby (the youngest of four in five years) to most places because I didn't want to be bothered being encumbered by a stroller. Goodness knows I did the happy dance when she could walk I didn't have to be bothered by that bullshit anymore.... second only to when she was finally potty-trained by 21 months.

My stomach turns when I see children so old that their knees are up to their chins with fukkin binkies being pushed in strollers or the same kids on leashes because their parents are fukkin mindless simpletons who don't have a clue how to teach their children to mind or behave in home or in a public place. I guess it was more work than they bargained for when they laid down and had some sex...

Oh wait... WTF do I know about parenting?
You know what works for you. You may not know what works for others.

I liked to hold their hand, but I also realize that my way doesn't work for all. For example, let's say that a parent has no hands. My idea won't work in that case.

Feel you but let us take this one step further....

And where would that parent's hands be when they take their child out into public?

I had four alone most of the time, yet I NEVER ran out of hands. How you think I managed to accomplish this?

I am no rocket scientist, not by a longshot but I can recognize piss pooor parenting a mile away. What you think the same parent who felt the need to put their 6 year old on a leash did when that kid turned 16? Dunno of very many 16 year olds who did well on a leash.

large cardboard boxes were great toys. inside home made forts....

This will sound nutty but you ever notice that THE BEST toys for kids were empty cardboard boxes and empty shampoo bottles? Hell, I remember how many times I put clothes pins and refrigerator magnets in empty tupperware containers. The baby would amuse herself for OURS... shaking it. Then trying to open the container, then counting the pieces and putting them in and out, then trying to put the top back on the container and finally they got the biggest kick out of pushing the container and pieces one by one off the tray on the high chair to see if Mami would notice and pick it up and put the pieces back on the tray....

If only I could go back to those days again.

Im white and I work in finance, so therefor I live in River North.

Maybe Ill move to Evanston down the road.

Fucking whiteys.

I can't tell you how many times I have had little kids run in front of me while I'm walking, worse when I have my hands full - typically in a store and since children tend not to look before running and when they hit something they bounce off and keep running (or fall over and start wailing). I don't think it's so much of leashing the kid as much as putting a little fear in them to behave properly and frankly I find it irritating to have little kids running around screaming like it's play time while in a store. So if a parent is at their wits end trying to keep they child in line I'm all for leashes if that is what it takes.

Indeed.

For some reason my 3 brothers and I never screamed in a public place, never threw hissy fits, and watched where we were going. If we didnt we apologized to the folks we got in the way of.

Maybe its because if we didnt we would get smacked on the ass pretty hard.

Its called a moral panic.

Back in 2001-2002 when all those kidnappings made headlines, people assumed that kids were getting stolen on every street corner when in actuality the amount of kidnappings were much lower than they were 5 years prior.

Stupid media.

exactly

When I was young, three different times I had men pull up in cars, pull out their dicks and jerk off in front of me.
I was around 5, then again at 10 then again at 12.
These pervs are now on line.

In fact, I'm sure there are less sickos because they have better outlets now to get help and less kids are kidnapped because they are better educated on their safety

I believe there is more deviant/neurotic/psychotic behavior now than there was 50 or 100 years ago.

And today, when someone gets caught doing something deviant/neurotic/psychotic we decide they were victims themselves. That they had a difficult childhhood. That they were abused as children as well. That their mother never related to their inner child and didn't accept them for who they are. What ever happened to just "fucking crazy"?

But that is the truth, but we don't give them less punishment. We try to help them instead of just storing them away.

Only as close as 30 yrs ago, children were being molested at alarming rate but family, friends, teacher, priests and it was never talked about. Today kids know to tell an adult.

My friend was raped by her Dad and everyone knew. She was told not to tell anyone.
In 4th grade, my teacher was molesting my friend. She only told us when she was 17.

Back then it was kept behind closed doors, today less so

Well victims who don't become predators themselves obviously deserve our help and sympathy.

And I don't mind helping victims who become predators either -- as a matter of fact I'd like to give them a nice place to work through their issues for 40 or 50 years. They'd have a place to sleep, three meals a day, some exercise time in the yard... Then when they relapse, it won't be by raping or killing someone else (unless they rape or shank another inmate but hey, that's the cost of doing time).

Tie them there kids up to a tree with just enough rope to reach the water bowl. No I am sorry we just do that to harmless animals.

Funny, I used to see the type of behavior you describe on a regular basis when I lived in Jersey. Since I have moved to Texas I have had parents yank pre-teen boys back by the collar of the shirt because they walked out the automatic door at the Target when I was walking in.

"Son, you apologize to that lady for walking in front of her and not letting her go first."

My husband and I were dressed in full "scary biker" dress and it mattered not. It was Target for goodness sakes and that mattered not. That parent clearly cared about the behavior of his children even though on the east coast what they did would not have caused a head to turn. The boy didn't run into me, nor would he have. It was simply a matter of him waiting for me (a total stranger dressed like a hellion) to enter first because I happened to be an adult female.

I guarantee you Velvett, that putting a child on a leash because a parent THINKS it will prevent him/her from running about the place wild and nutty and completely out of control is silly at best. You think a kid that won't listen to verbal instruction and physical cues (a little pinch or gentle tug on an ear goes a looooooooooong way or the old raising fingers with the "I had better not get to three" look) will mind when placed on a leash that is designed to restrict them? Ever see a dog take its owner for a drag?!?! LMFAO

As for the pedophiles and child molesters abusing children more today than they did 50 years ago: the only way I would give that arguement any weight is because the number of people has increased. More people = more nutjobs. But other than that I don't think it is a valid point. It is just that you hear about it more. Sadly, you will never hear about ALL of the victims as they additionally bear the burden of shame which is a weighty burden indeed.

I was 9 the first time I was molested. I told my mother immediately. She was too ashamed to confront the man because he was a good friend of my uncle and we were at a public pool. I actually got blamed. Yup, 9 year olds are incredibly sexy and should know better than to allow an older gentleman that they were told they could trust to teach them to swim. When I got molested again at the age of 12 I realized that I had no one to tell so I just kept my mouth shut but warned my younger sister not to play at this cousin's house because their grandfather (not ours) was sick, the same way I made damned sure that she didn't let that sick motherfucker "teach her how to swim too". Goodness knows my mother was too busy with her head in the sand to say something to my younger sister. When I was raped at barely 15 (my first sexual experiences) it was YEARS, nearly a decade that I would even admit to myself that it happened as it was a cousin who did it. There's a lot more to the story with some pretty unpleasant details that can be saved for a rainy day but I think I've driven the point home that regardless of how old the victim or how old they are when they are abused by one of these sick bastards whether they will tell someone or not is a bit more complex than just whether or not society as a whole has become more aware that this stuff goes on with some regularity and that it is NEVER the victim's fault. There are very VERY strong stigmas attached to sexual assault. Whether we like it or not, there are. And most survivors spend the rest of their lives trying to forget... 'course it doesn't work that way either.

If you can get a license to carry, get one. If you see a child getting kidnapped, shot the bastard. I recommend the desert eagle .50 . Rip their guts out.

One of the first things I taught my children when they were old enough to walk away from me is that if ANYONE ever tried to grab them that instead of merely scuffling, kicking and screaming things like, "Leave me alone or Mami" (or something to that effect) to scream "STRANGER". This way everyone around would know what was going on, instead of them misinterpreting the scene as merely a parent trying to haul off an unruly child.

Well, I have to admit that I bought one of those little backpacks with the tails that you can hold on to for Devin. I have never used it though. My reasoning is that once Devin could walk, I didn't want a moment's inattention from me or from him result in an accident. Say for example, we are in a parking lot and he darts off, as kids will do, after a toy he dropped or something, before I can reach for him and he gets hit by a car? Or he reaches for something like a loose shelf before I can get to him and pulls it over on his head.

I don't think that it traumatizes a kid in any way for wearing one.

I dunno if I will ever put it on him and use it, but the little backpack is a pretty cute way for them to carry some of their own stuff.

There are some gadgets that are definite improvements for the safety and wellbeing of our children; carseats for example. But something like what you described is totally unnecessary crap that they sell parents who are totally afraid of "what if"?

Dear Lady - you are bright and attentive and loving. I had four children and NEVER ran out of hands... I am thinkin that you won't run out of them either. ;)

I get some really crazy thoughts and worries in my head sometimes. I know that some of my ideas are a bit crazy, but then I think that it's the parents who don't obsessively think of what could happen that you see on the news crying who say "I just looked away for 30 seconds and he drowned in the pool" or what not. I may need to see a shrink...lol.

Trust me when I tell you that being obsessively worried will not HELP you or your son. It will only make YOU crazy. It is wise to be prudent and attentive but obsessing is silly at best and harmful at worst.

I was RIGHT THERE so many times when any number of my children could have gotten seriously hurt. Goodness I can't tell you how many times my oldest got into eating laundry detergent, etc which made for many panicked phone calls to poison control! A parent can not stand over their child 24/7. What will be, will be to some extent. You have to shut all the scary images of "what if" or you WILL lose your mind.

I am the voice of that experience to the nth degree with regard to that as I have endless images of WHAT IS and still can't do a damned thing. Well not more than I am and have been doing. So now, what am I supposed to do to stay sane? :(

You just be prudent, loving and attentive and both you and your son will have very happy and healthy lives. :)
