puked during leg workout

lately, ive been hitting legs pretty hard and i feel extremely dizzy and nauseaus during a leg workout. most of the time, i cant hold it in, and just run to the toilet to puke. i eat 1 cup oatmeal (cooked) and 2 scoops of whey isolate 1 and a half hour before my leg workout. i did 4 work sets of squats 20, 15, 12, 10 reps, then i did 2 sets of leg presses and that did it for me. im gonna g back later for leg extensions, hamstring work and calve work. can someone help me out here.

I've come close to puking a few times.

You're probably hitting it HARD.....

Maybe move that pre-wo meal a little further out...

Never felt like i was gonna puke but after 20 rep squats for the first time i almost passed out and was out of it.

That has happened to me many times. I noticed that I wasn't breathing correctly. During the last few reps I was holding my breath which made the exercise much harder. Make sure you concentrate on your breathing, it's very important. Also, after a heavy leg workout blood rushes to your legs in order to fuel your muscles. Just take deep breaths and keep moving until your heart rate gets back to normal.

i think it has something to do with the high reps. at rep 12-20, im holding my breath alot, which i think caused it. come to think of it, when your working out, your blood pressure rises, and you need more oxygen so holding my breath for long periods of time is restricting oxygen flow making me nauseaus. thats the only explaination i got, lol.

there is a popular saying in both of my gyms. one of them has it on a t-shirt. its
"squat till you puke"

Training legs with the right food as fuel, 18 dollars.
Using an olympic squat rack, 24 dollars
Wearing spandex to show off your legs, 8 dollars
Breathing correctly so you dont puke, PRICELESS!!!

Almost did the same thing today while doing deads, but I think that it's the whey protein and energy drinks. It makes me have like mucus in my throat really bad and I have to throw up so I have to hold it in. Today that is one of the reason I gave up and left the gym, but the biggest reason was the 2 kids taking up the squat rack to do dumbbell curls for the 40 minutes I was there.

I used to puke a lot too. Now before squat day I eat a couple of Tums EX. Al old school trainer once told me that high volume leg days can upset the ph balance of the stomach leading to nausea and puking.

No puking since the Tums.

Sup bro? I agree with ez_e and princesa. Before leg woekouts the food in your stomach should be minimal and you should focus on breathing right too, also the tums thing might work.

During my squat workouts I turn into all sorts of colors, but never puke. Even when I party occasionally and trash myself, I don't puke.

I eat like half a pound of chicken and tons of carbs a lot of the time and my stomach doesn't bother me while lifting or running so I guess it depends on the person.

When I read the title of this thread, the first thing I thought was, "Sweet!"

I've popped a couple of capillaries in my eyes once, but I have yet to puke.

As a couple people said earlier, don't eat too much too soon before your workouts (any workout, but especially legs or even abs). Perhaps the Tums may help.

To combat the lightheadedness and dizzyness, make sure you not only breathe properly throughout your sets but also drink plenty of water during the workout. Inadequate water intake coupled with intense physical activity can easily lead to a light head, if not passing out completely. You should drink generous amounts of water during each rest period between sets. If you feel lightheaded or dizzy, or your throat feels dry while you work out, then you're not drinking enough water.

I used to puke a lot from legwork. Sometimes couldn't make it to the locker room!

My suggestion will help with puking, and possibly on leg growth.
SPLIT YOUR LEG DAY!

My split looks like this (and is working well for all bodyparts)

Day 1: Bicep/Hamstring
Day 2: Chest/Calves
Day 3: Abs/*pickup muscle
Day 4: Quads/Delts
Day 5: Back/Tric
Day 6: 0ff
Day 7: repeat

What I mean by *pickup muscle is any muscle I want to hit twice that week. Sometimes I'll hit biceps for a couple weeks in a row twice, then go to another one. In my humble opinion, its a genius split. And splitting the leg days make it eaiser for you to hit them harder and reduce overall body stress by not doing all leg muscles all at once.

The only reason you puke, is cause you maxed out your nerves. You fired as much as your peripheral nervous system will let you correctly with out shaking unsafely... you body reacts by wanting to yack. I think you might wanna consider, fast twitch movements because your slow twitch can obviously hold up with high reps. now to shock the body you work your other ignored fibers.

Iv'e puked on leg days lots of times. I alwasy feel nautious after a good leg day. It's pretty much shock to your nervous system. The hardest part for me is afterwards just taking my boots off and getting into the shower without puking or getting light headed. On leg day the most I eat before hand is a banana. I eat big the night before but not in the morning before the actual workout. I'm not hungry afterwards either but I get my protien down before I hit the shower and still eat 45 to an hour later. you might try hitting hams and quads on differant days if you just can't handle it.

Congratulations...

(j/k...I'd say hold back a bit on the meal as well)

I have never puked or even felt sick after squats, I cant push that far all that happens is I get stuck just above parrallel its not like I can just push and push I just hit a point where the weight aint movin. If I did a split I think it would be back that would wipe me out most anyway, deads leave me pretty light headed and my eyes look crazy lol

Drop the weight and raise the reps to keep going and I'll bet you could reach the point to where you would want to puke. It's the rep sets of 20's that get me after going heavy.

If you haven't puked while doing squats before, you aren;t officially a man.

Also, remember how much blood it takes from your head when your glutes and quads get pumped. That's why you feel so light headed. Lack of blood to the brain. Just lay down on the floor with your legs in the air on a bench, and you will not get so light headed, and it will keep you from puking. Trying to walk it off just makes it worse because your legs muscles are firing and continuing to fill with blood.

Well I just stopped cuz Im startin the 5x5 again but I used to do squats 1x20,1x15, 1x12, 1x10 followed by leg extension 1x20, 1x15, 1x12, 1x10. Leg extensions nearly stopped me from walkin but squats just got me tired, maybe it was too heavy, my best squat has been 225x4 and I did my 20 rep set with 145...

Nearly passing out counts? :qt:

The three "p's" apply to leg day:

1) Puking
2) Passing out
3) Pooping your pants

At some point one or all three WILL happen.

Trust me....

Lol I've never vomited, but whenever I have a good leg day like I did an hour ago I start stumbling around like an idiot because I can't walk. I get this confused look on my face and then I start smiling to myself bc people are like wtf is he drunk???

Funny you say this. I was doing deadlifts today. I had mad gas, and when I went to pull my last set, I toally ripped the loudest fart. I dropped the weight laughing because everybody was laughing at me.

Funniest thing that ever happened to me at the gym was last year, I was doing sumo squats and my pants ripped apart, luckly for me it was 7am and nobody was watching, still it was embarrassing walking home like that. :artist:

This can also happen remarkably easily while doing those leg presses. You may not even realize you have gas until it happens.
