i was working out yesterday with 2 guys doing chest beside me. both pretty big, one guy does his set, the other gets on and does his...stands up, gives a pound, takes two steps and drops dead!! i saw the whole thing. apparently he had an anurism.sp?? thats was wild shit, i couldnt even lift after that.

no shit?? damn, who would have eer thought ya go to the gym to lift and get "healthy" and drop dead.

My dad 2 years ago was doin cardio, started to have a heart attack and drove himself to the hospital. He made it though.

Great! I feel like hitting some bench. Or maybe high rep squats to get that BP way up there. Now I'm gonna have a panic attack when I go running.

I guess it is all up to the man upstairs. Nothing can stop that kind of shit or sudden cardiac death. I did notice a portable defibrillator at the gym about a month ago.

i know man, it was weird cause it took the abulance like 6 mins to get there so we were all just looking at him laying there dead. hard to push yourself after seeing something like that.

yeah, that would have freaked me the fuck out too. That's crazy, makes me wonder how far can you really push your body. everyone's different I guess.

anurism when a blood vessel in ur brain pops?
Ever see an inner tube with a bubble/bulge in it? That's what an aneurysm is, a bulging of the blood vessel wall caused by a structural weakness there. You can have them anywhere in your body. When they rupture, especially some of the brain and heart vessel varieties, it's usually LIGHTS OUT. That's what killed John Ritter, a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Since they're symptomless unless/until they rupture they're usually only found before they cause problems when doctors know there's a genetic history of them and they run scans (usually MRI/MRA) or they're looking for something else and happen to run across the aneurysm.

so was his in his brain or heart? i know he was on tes.t/dec.a , if you already have one will the increase in b.p. make them more likley to pop?

If he literally collapsed and died instantly, I'll guess brain, a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The aneurysm pops and floods the cerebral fluid with blood, the brain is snapped off, BANG.

anything cause them or just happends? high blood pressure?
The tendency toward them, that's congenital, something you're born with, just like any other weakness.

High/increased blood pressure triggers them and can blow them, but if you have an aneurysm you can have normal blood pressure, too and it can blow. High blood pressure doesn't make you GET an aneurysm unless you have a weakness in your arterial wall somewhere to begin with. Now a SUDDEN increase in blood pressure, as in heavy weight training (your blood pressure goes up like crazy when you weight train, even more than with cardio, think of those red faced power lifters), that's a different story.

He didn't get the aneurysm from weight training, or steroids, but could those two things have contributed to his early death :whatever: who's to say? He could have skipped his training yesterday, gotten cut off in traffic today, got pissed off and popped a vessel in the middle of rush hour traffic, too, and taken out a car full of commuters. If he'd never taken steroids, never lifted weights, maintained a normal body weight and gotten regular exercise he might have checked out 30 years from now, or he might have dropped dead in the middle of an orgasm.

Death is a crapshoot, only guys on death row know when their ticket will get punched, and sometimes they get curveballs, too.

CPR? Anyone?

damn that would literally fuck my workout and blow my focus too

may the dude rest in piece,at least he died doing what he loved......most likely would have probably preferred dying while busting a nut though.

Dude, they did the right thing. A ruptured cerebral aneurysm severe enough to stop a man's heart means severe brain damage. If they HAD done CPR, he was brain dead. God forbid if they'd actually managed to get his heart beating it would have been powering a turnip.

My mother blew an aneurysm lying IN a hospital bed. They used everything they had and, of course, got her body to start living again (because the aneurysm didn't affect her brainstem, which handles bodily functions) so I got the privelege of deciding to pull her plug and wait for her body to catch up to her brain.

damn that's seriously sad,I'm sorry for your loss and that you had to experience that.

It is hard to say where it happenned untl the autosy is done. If he just stood up and died at the drop of a hat it may have been in his head. Only a guess. generally the ones on the aorta, which is that big as vessel running from your heart down your stomac and branches off to the legs, gennerally bleed a little bit and the complain of breathing problems and sometimes chest pain or a riping sensation in the chest.

That is one of the many types of bleeds. Your speaking of a subarchnoid bleed.

The tendency toward them, that's congenital, something you're born with, just like any other weakness.

this is so true and a small percentage of people walk around with them and not even know it. You go to your MD complaing of a stiff neck and a HA adn he just happens to do a CT scan or MRI and there it is.

High/increased blood pressure triggers them and can blow them, but if you have an aneurysm you can have normal blood pressure, too and it can blow. HTN untreated long enough can weaken a vessel. think about all that pressure for years on anything will weaken it eventually.

this is sooo true.

this 27 year old girl came to our ER after drinking one night maybe one or 2 and she was acting drunk. We ordered a CT and she had a big ass bleed in the middle of her brain. It was shifting the brains midline which is never good. Some people come out of them but there is always residual damage.

Well if you dont know what happenned then the first thing you would do is check responsiveness then breathing then pulse. you always assume its cardiac arrest with adults if they just drop dead. If it bleed fast enough and big enough his brain may have herniated which means buldged out of the hold in the base of the skull affecting his brain stem which controls breathing and other things important to life.

Dude, they did the right thing. Did they? Standing around Rubbernecking for 6 Minutes while he has no pulse or breathing waiting for an Ambulance to arrive. If he wasn't dead from the anyurism he would be from lack of Oxygen to the brain over 6 minutes.

I realize no one knew what he had dropped from immediately. I would have thought Heart Attack myself. I hope I never have that happen at my Gym, but if it does, I'm going to try CPR. I hope someone does the same for me if I drop.

no doubt. i had to give a guy cpr once. i found him, called 911, then did cpr for 6 or 7 minutes till the paramedics got there. they hooked him up to some electrodes and said he'd been gone for 15 minutes or so. too late. a guy i was with froze up. after it was all over he said he knew it was too late for the guy and so he didn't bother. i knew he was feeling guilty so i didn't call him on it, but doing cpr for 5 minutes till the ambulance gets there isn't asking alot. i hope someone would do it for me.

Not something that anyone should have to have the "privilege" of deciding. Sorry for you loss. I admire that you had the courage to do the right thing.

i can see that view very easily also, if i hadnt seen it with my own eyes i would think the same thing. i've tried to find out a lil more about him since then, basically all ive found out is that he was on test/deca, was always healthy, and he was 31. its in the obituaries if theres still some skeptics out there.

it's sad to say just a sneeze can make one pop!

you'd be amazed at the pressure created while doing max lifts. it's nothing to really worry about, because, how often do you read about lifters dying in the gym?

You know you would be really a hard core bodybuilder if you kept on working out and that didnt even face you......... Talking about being in the zone.....

Sorry if someone already asked this... I didn't read the entire thread, but...
did anyone do CPR on the poor bastard?

there was a firefighter in the gym (b/c we didnt know what the hell to do but say "oh shit") and he ran over there and did do a little bit of cpr but it didnt take him but about 2 mins from the time it happened to say that he was dead. i guess cpr doesnt help with an anurism....maybe like running h2o through a hose with a big hole in it? from what i hear, the guys wife picked up a shift in the E.R. last min...and freaked out when she saw her dead husband roll in...what are freakin odds.

if its your time to go you will go no matter where you are or what you are doing. :worried: just think of the places you could go.

I couldn't agree more. RIP Fellow Brother Of Iron.

I thought I freaked people out when I broke my finger and snapped the bone out, compound fracture at my gym. I was bleeding all over the place and decided to do two more sets of decline since I knew I was going to be out of the upper body workout game for a while.

That is a crazy deal though. That would shake me up pretty badly. I think all gyms should be made to have defribulators (sp) at them. I would have tried some cpr at least too. It is pretty rare and even more so for people to see it. I hear a lot of those pop when on the toilet. That would suck, what a way to go out.

What a jerk off, when you start CPR your supposed to keep going until you cant physically anymore...and then someone else takes over....best to have a face shield with the one way valve so u dont get his throw up in your mouth :Chef:

This is believable. I normally call bullshit on a lot of stuff reported here.

Maybe during his assessmnet after doing a round of COR he looked at his pupils maybe they were blown or maybe he had dolls eyes. Any case with those your brain dead.
