Petpre's turn on Greek Mythology - lifting Olympus(ic)

I tried to come up with a cool log title but I think I failed . Anyway, since I wasnt too comfortable with the way I do the olympic lifts I decided to take the learning to the next step and signed up for online coaching with Mike and Glenn. They design my work outs, analyze my oly lifting vids and get back to me on what to work on.

Since this sort of approach might be interesting to some people on here who dont have the opportunity to join an oly lifting team in their area I though I start a log on EF. I will keep you updated on my progress.

I cant lift as much as I want to b/c I am playing semipro hockey which is taking up a good part of my time. Furthermore the lifting shouldnt impair my on ice performance so depending on my game plan I am aiming for 2 to 4 work outs a week.

work outs for the next 2-3 weeks:
Day 1
Sq 5x5 @ 75% of max
Fr Sq 5 x 3 @ 80% of Power Clean (~60-70kg)
Push Press 5x5
DB Bench 3x10

Day 2
Power Clean 6x3 @ 70-80%of Max
Rack Jerk 5x3
Clean Pull 3x5 From floor preferably; use from the rack if fatigued
Light Goodmorning 3x15 (~20-30kg)

First workout:

I havent done any lifting for 2 weeks now and I was excited to go. Hence, I decided to start today with workout #2 b/c of my game tomorrow.

Warm up:
power cleans, front squats, jerks, push and military presses with the bar
2x2x42,5kg Power cleans with jerks
2x3x52,5kg Power Cleans

Power Cleans 6x3 with 60kg

Rack Jerks 5x3 with 50kg

Clean Pulls from the floor 3x5 with 90kg

Good Mornings 3x15 with bar

the workout was easy. I havent done clean pulls before so this was a new experience. I didnt feel my wrist which always a good thing (except while lowering the bar from the jerks back to the shoulders).

Squats 5x5 90kg

I havent done any oly Squats lately so the first two sets were kinda hard
but I felt good after these.


FSquats 5x3 60kg

Front Squats were really easy. I decided to start off with the lower percentage number on each lift so I can add some weight every work out.


Push Presses 5x5 52,5kg

I have never done them before and only read about them so I am not
sure if what I did really was a Push Press.

DB Bench Press 3x10 DB (~5,5kg each) + 10kg

easy as well. I will add weight next time.

Looks good! This should be a fun journal to follow. One thing, are they ok w/ you posting the info. you get from them?

What bothers your wrists?

hmm - I thought I am not going to post the info they give only my progression and the work outs. but I will ask them if this is okay with them.

I blocked a shot last year and sprained a ligament in my right wrist, I was out for 4 weeks and couldnt do any oly lifts for around half a year. now excessive work with push presses or badly racked cleans or especially snatches bother my wrist. it is getting a lot better though.

I tried to focus on staying back with my chest and I think I did alright. What
concerns me is my knee movement and I dont know how I am supposed to
get my hip moving downward instead of forward :(


Rack Jerks 52,5kg 5x3
these were easy.


Clean Pulls 92,5kg 3x5
while doing them I feel quick but on the vid I really look slow. this time I didnt
just let go of them but held on to the bar. Am I supposed to slow the bar
down with my quads?
on both the power cleans and the pulls I started off with my head in a neutral
position which makes me looking at the floor.

GM 22,5kg 3x15
easy

I did the hwole thing right before evening practice and after the morning
skate. I didnt really feel well on the ice which is no surprise since working
out 3 times a day isnt so hot.
