If you utilize a physician that uses a hospitalist for hospital admissions, then they're less likely to be running late for appointments.
There are three reasons why physicians are usually running late:
1. The physician gets tied up with unexpected emergencies, complications, etc. with admitted patients and takes longer than scheduled in the hospital;
2. The physician is overbooked, something that's commonly done because of patient no shows;
3. Patients show up late, and push back the entire schedule.
My ex-girlfriend is a primary care physician. She eliminated number 1 by no longer admitting her own patients to the hospital. A hospitalist takes care of her patients when admitted. She eliminated number 2 by saying that if you show up 15 minutes late, you will not be seen that day and must reschedule your appointments. Patients that must fill out paperwork must show up 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment or they will be rescheduled. Patients are no longer overbooked because if you do not show up for an appointment, you are billed for that appointment slot regardless of you actually showing up for it. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy that is strictly enforced.
Her on-time rate is exceptional now. She is the physician for two of my coworkers, and they are always talking about how on-time she is.
