Olympics why not MMA

Is just me or do others think that the MMA should be introduced as a new Olympic sport.
If tennis and baseball can be an Olympic sport, then MMA DEFINITELY deserves to be there.

I'm not sure if mma will become part of the olympics(even though they had it during the gladiator days), but I do feel submission wrestling should and will be apart of the olympics within the next 10 years(hopefully sooner).

because there are enough fighting sports in the Olympics already and they are the following:

1- Boxing
2- Wrestling
3- Judo
4- Taekwando

All the above have been around for a very long time and have won their place in the olympics. Maybe when MMA becomes more recognized, then it will be added.

I completely agree that it has a place in the Olympic and the reason for starting the thread was my understanding that was so widely recognized around the globe. Any country that you go to has some from of MMA competition.

Olympic Judo allows for submissions, so I doubt they will make a new category.

Ive seen BJJ lower belts beat Judo black belts in Judo rules competitions.

Do you think if they brought MMA to the Olympic it would take away interest from Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, and Taekwando. Could this be the factor that's holding this sport back from being an Olympic event.

MMA was actually one of the first sports to be featured in the Olympics. Back then it was called "Pankration" by the Greeks. It was introduced in the Greek Olympic games in 648 BC. The sport was a mix of both wrestling and boxing. Both of which were part of the games as well.

Read the Wiki on it. It is very interesting:

I agree with J Rock, MMA should be in the Olympics, it is one sports that is practiced world-wide. Every corner of the globe has MMA competitions, or at least something like it with modified rules that mix striking with wrestling.
