There are some interesting arguments for either perspective. If I were to hire a chemist to personally make me a batch of test cypionate would that be human grade? I would think so regardless of whether it was made by a large corporation or not. If a substance is made for human use and every aspect of its production reflects those standards I would consider it human grade.

Mmmm, depends on the chemist. But your point is well made in that the keys to human grade are gauranteed by pharmaceutical companies: purity, concentration, sterility.

Purity is not mentioned much in reference to underground gear, but almost all syntheses involve multiple reaction routes that need strict control, and subsequent purification to rid the product of undesired side reaction material. Pharm companies have the equipment necessary to assay their products, and do so. Do underground labs have this ability and use it? I don't know, and I'm not saying they don't, but...

Look at the case of underground-made PCP that caused Parkinsonion symptoms (aka complete, permanent, devastating disability) in users. Or was it heroin? I'm too lazy to Google it. In any case, it was "home-made", and the users - in this case worthless junkies - paid for it with their lives.
