1. Does not the baby upon conception have a seperate DNA chain from the mother?

2. Is that DNA chain identical in construction to any human being and no other genus on earth?

3. The argument that since the baby requires a host body it isn't human has a logical fallacy attached. That same argument then can be extrapolated to anyone who is handicapped requiring a form of life-support, and the elderly and infirm. Very slippery slope!

4. As the previous notes validate that the child is human, the argument that a mother can do what she wants with her body does not apply as she has no rights with regards to that of another human body.

But what about the rights of the mother? Pregnancy, unwanted, is tatamount to imposing a life long jail sentence.

There is a frightening potential that giving rights to a fetus will set the stage for the development of an environment where the rights of this "potential being" could be elevated ABOVE the mother. She will turn into a walking womb, an environment. Is it such a stretch to imagine it legal to levy punitive damages against a woman who, knowingly or not, engages in potentially hazardous behavior during her pregnancy? Women are still mutiliated in countries and butchered because they are not believed to have the rights of men. You think we're SO much more progressive and civilized?

It wasn't so very long ago that women were, in the eyes of the government, possessions of their husbands and laws had to be passed to limit the size of the stick those women were beaten with ...

Killing babies goes against what is natural

A fetus is not a baby. A baby is a human infant from birth to about one year of age. A fetus, by definition, has not BEEN born.

Stirring the pot, Bill? :qt:

"Killing babies ain't natural" is one of the oldest pro-life arguments around.
Andrea Yates, now SHE killed babies.

Why is the fetus not a baby?

People look at their babies on ultrasound all the time before the baby is born

Red, I don't understand why Bill didn't answer this one for you since he's told me he was a practicing cardiologist/cardiac specialist with a thriving practice. He should be able to give you the medical explanations very clearly, but if you must, I googled the words: "definition fetus", "definition baby":

I chose the answers from Children's Hospital and Princeton:

Fetus: an unborn baby from the eighth week after fertilization until birth (that's from CHOP);

Baby: a very young child (birth to 1 year) who has not yet begun to walk or talk (from Princeton).

I mean if you want the full list of definitions I can give it to you but that would be longer than my original post. I read that to mean you have to be born to be a baby, until you are sustaining your own life functions independent of your mother, you're a fetus.

baby
Dictionary
ba·by (bā'bē) pronunciation
n., pl. -bies.

1.
1. A very young child; an infant.
2. An unborn child; a fetus.
3. The youngest member of a family or group.
4. A very young animal.
2. An adult or young person who behaves in an infantile way.
3. Slang. A girl or young woman.
4. Informal. Sweetheart; dear. Used as a term of endearment.
5. Slang. An object of personal concern or interest: Keeping the boat in good repair is your baby.

But beyond simple semantics, you are dodging the question, what is the essential difference whether a baby is out of the womb or in the womb??
