Need input if anyone has had this done: going in for hernia surger repair + long hospital stay + big operation

I finally got to see one of the best hernia guys in the nation and the lump I have in my tummy is an incisional hernia. I had a patch put in a while ago and something went wrong. Now I have a lump the size of two fists and I have to get it repaired because it is getting bigger and I risk strangulating the intestines (which would not be good). I've been working out at full throttle with no problems but need to get this done because it is getting larger.

Anyway, the doc needs to make a 8-12 inch cut, remove the old patch, and stick in a totally new one. He says I will be back to normal (the first doc said that too but IMO he fucked up). Surgery is 4-5 hours, mandatory hospital stay for 7-10 days, then he said I will be able to exercise again in 6 weeks.

I'm pissed at my first doc and want to kill him. I saw him 6 months ago and he said I was fine. Every other doc said otherwise.

This sucks. Not to mention I have a newborn at home.

Anyone here have any experience with this?

Surgery is on the 25th. Wish me luck.

My best friend had a double hern and still has the defective screen/patch. He needs to get it fixed soon, it's been buggin him. I had to take care of him after the first one, holy shit I hope I never have one of those. I watched that poor guy cry almost daily.

Good luck man!

I read about those patched in one of the legal rags I get in the mail. That shit is scary! Some people really got screwed up with those. They had a ring that circled the mesh and it broke off and in some cases punctured peoples intestines. I hope he recovers fine after he gets it replaced.

Good luck, bro. Take a wireless laptop to your surgery and post up webcam pics.

I need to see if they have wireless so I can surf the net. I have my reading material lined up so I am focused and have a plan for my stay.

A positive attitude = the best thing I can do.

My bro had the same surgery you are about to have. It was rough the first two weeks. I guess you can compare it to a c-sections chicks get when they give birth. Some are up on their feet the next day some are hurting for a few weeks. Being that you work out you will recover much faster than the average couch potato.Good luck bro................

wow good luck to you!

maybe this will make you feel better - when I was just 4 yrs old, I had a hernia repair surgery. And i recovered just fine!

Ive had 2 Inguinal Hernias repaired with mesh patch. Sounds nothing like your problem though Bro. Wish you all the best. PS I'm lifting bigger weights now than I ever did before the hernias.
