Neck Training

NWinters

New member
I've started training my neck directly using the plate method. I lay on my back with my head hanging over a bench, holding a plate on my forehead and doing situps with my neck. I work both front and back by going up slowly and down slowly. I used to train my neck this way in wrestling. I've been fortunate enough to walk away from belly to back suplexes. I've also used my head to scoot across the mat as escape manuevers. I know shrugs work your neck too.

Anyone else have any neck training methods they wanna share?

I also do this...front and back. I even lay on each side to work the sides. I put over 1/2 inch on my neck in the last 5 weeks.

yeah bridges are great

check out the wrestlers bridge explained on this website: http://www.iowastrong.com/ismred.html

the 4 way neck that has also been mentioned works well with bands

hise shrugs do a job on the neck

walk around in a football helmet for a few weeks...lol

With a Partner: Lockup like two heavies in a wrestling match, your hands clasped behind his neck and his behind yours. Start by pulling his head down and forcing yours up until you can break his grasp. Now repeat with you being forced down. Go back and forth for a while.....your neck will never be so wrecked. Remember this is like a competition so neither of you should be making it eassy for the other, if you are the one being forced down fight against it with everything you have. I did these in football for a couple years and they are by far the best neck exercise I know.

good luck NW....kick some ass

Thats an awesome idea...you should stretch first before you do this. If you dont you will not be able to turn your head the day after i promise lol. Warm up with some wrestlers bridges and then mess around with your friend. hell take it the next step and practice some takedowns too...make it fun

How many days a week do you guys work your neck? And how many set/reps do you use?

Tony

I think once a week would be sufficient since the neck muscles recieve a lot of strain when working out in the first place

I might get me an old football helmet and add a post at the top so i can add plates to it and do weighted axercises with it.

Ahhh. I just love it when a plan comes together.

I have serious neck and jaw issues. My jaw clicks and my neck is constantly tight...my sources tell me it is being aggravated by my forward posture at the computer (I have an office job). Many situps/crunches put too much strain on my neck! It really sucks...
