Nearly died today

Scotsman

New member
Went for a motorcycle ride with some friends today. We were going around a small very tight hairpin turn when I ran off the road. Like an idiot I looked down for a sec and ran right off the curve. Luckily there was a small erosion gulley that I steered into which jumped me back up on the road. If it had given way or I had missed it I would have been flung down a steep hill into a group of trees. Happened so fast I didn't even have time to get scared. I just got up out of the saddle like you're supposed to and corrected my mistake. Didn't even get much of an increase in HR.

Just thought I'd share.

Glad that you are ok...I hate motorcycles, they are very dangerous.
Had a cousin pass away in a bike accident going round a curve just about 2 years ago. And that is not the only part, one of his best riding partners died in a bike accident about 2 months after him.
Terrible.

Thanks.

Bikes are only as dangerous as the person operating them. Had something happened to me it would have totally been my fault for doing something I know way better than to do.

Not necessarilly. Accidents happen all the time by the hands of a car driver near the bike. honestly think that all states it should be mandatory to wear complete riding gear and helmet when ever on one.

that's pretty rad; if it were me I'd be getting shitfaced right now and gorging myself with pizza

bull.....shit.

live in florida where the driving is completely unpredictable. there are so many motorcycle related deaths here it's unreal

i'm glad you didn't eat it!! then i would have had to post in your "i ruined my casual dress shirt and scuffed up my face" thread

yikes!
the only time I fell on my motorcycle was the way you described.
it shook me up a bit though.

I was driving a week or 2 ago and there was a motorcycle behind me, well the road curves then there is a bridge, he hid the barrier wall and atleast flipped onto the sidewalk, totally flew off his bike.

There is a fire dept though right on other side of bridge so I pulled in there and told them.

Glad your alive though man!

congrats for having the quick reactions and presence of mind needed to get the potentially very bad situation corrected.

i reluctantly sold my bike when i realized my reaction time was going downhill.

Not necessarily. A good friend of mine is in critical condition right now because a 17Y/O girl was driving with a learners permit and ran a red light and hit him head on.

Gald you're ok.

Back in "the day" I used to ride crotch rockets all of the time. After having a couple of drinks and getting on one doing 120mph down the highway in the middle of the night, the next day I put them both of them up for sale and never rode one again.

How stupid was I? I could have seriously hurt sombody or myself for that matter. :worried:

Holy shit, glad I never got you that jet powered cycle. :D

I'm very happy that you didn't get hurt, Scots. :)

The biggest concern of the motorcycle rider should be the larger vehicles that surround them.

As far as helmets go - I'm pro choice. Here in Nevada if you ride a cycle that's less than 50cc you don't need a helmet, insurance, license or registration. That's the only reason I have a scooter - and it's fun to ride (except last Friday - but I'm to pissed to talk about it).

It only takes a second... Glad you are ok.

Last Saturday the old grump and I almost bought it THREE TIMES all in one day. Wasn't funny.

I'd love to run some smack here..............but I've checked out of a nice comfortable motorcycle ride more times then I care to admit........lol

The bike is no more or no less dangerous than the actions of the person on it. You can never control your environment not even in a car. The only difference is a motorcycle always loses in a collision. I've had people run me off the road or do all kinds of stupid shit. I've learned from this to treat every car as the enemy so I many stay as far away from them as I can. And if I even have the slightest doubt as to someone's intentions I back off until I discern them.

Talk all the smack you want, I feel it entitles me to ridicule others who make the same mistake even more now.

Yep total noob move, you'd think with 24yrs on bikes and atvs and six years on this bike I'd be past that shit, but then again I've decided that I am 86% retarded.

Sorry Scots I just had to interrupt and give a shout out to a bro who listens to FA, glad you didn't pass brah...

thats the smartest thing to do right there. too many people who can't see or just really don't pay attention to their surroundings. But all in all were all glad your alright.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

The funny thing is the first thought that came to my mind when I got back on the road was "Fuck I hope the bike's ok".LOL

Thanks. I wouldn't have posted about my face, not like a wreck is going to make me any uglier.

The shirt would have pissed me the fuck off though, so I don't wear them on the bike.

what if it made you hot???? then you would post about it everday and noobs would purposely ride face first into tree's hoping to be scotsman pretty!! you would have been the male version of rachel only instead of the beav shots you'd post your mug.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA, well I'm not going to go run face first into a tree to see if it works so I guess this will remain one of those untested mysteries.

Somehow I don't think you can to good facial reconstruction with a tree, I could be wrong however.

yes you could be VERY wrong!!! i hope that pops into your head one drunken night and you make a "i broke my face on a tree" thread

Well I'm quite comfortable not being pretty, but if I do smash my face into a tree I'll even dedicate the thread to you bro.

Good to know everything worked out alright. I don't think bikes are dangerous either I took a spill on a turn all thanks to a gravel truck (its not fun turning on gravel!) luckily nothing really bad happened to me. I'm pretty sure you'll never make that mistake again but sometimes its easy to take your mind of something for even 1 second and thats all that really needs to happen. Glad you are ok scotsman!

Yeah gravel and dirt are the suck. I don't even touch the front brake when I am on either one.

Yep doesn't even really take a full second to put you in a very bad spot.
