Your daughters is a Ball Python. Quite a bit of a difference, but I guess it doen't matter if you don't like snakes!!biteme said:My daughter has one. I hate snakes.
I haven't really come up with a good name for him... I've thought of a few, but never really decided on one.string_bean00 said:What's its name?

I feed him a couple very large rats every couple of weeks. It won't be long before he'll need rabbits though. He could certainly eat a cat or a small dog though, if the opportunity presented itself. I have read that any constrictor over 8 feet is considered strong enough to kill an average adult. That never really happens though except by very large pythons (20+ feet), but experts still say that if it is over 8 feet, you shouldn't handle it alone... Someone should be nearby, just in case.HeatherRae said:You have a beautiful snake. Eating rabbits? rats? small children? ;-)
I don't know that much about red boas, do you need to worry about him constricting you? He's getting big enough to put a hurting on someone, if he is so inclined.
They will strike and bite to defend themselves if threatened, but won't constrict unless it is for food... It isn't a normal bite either, more of just a strike to tell you to back off... I've been bitten once by this snake (it had been a while since he had eaten, so he was more aggressive than normal!). Holy shit did that hurt!!!madbomber31 said:they dont contstrict if they cant eat it, usually.
nice snake...
you silly twat! there has never been any evidence of human predation by a snake. humans run a lower body temperature than rodents and small mammals. it's a huge difference when left up to snakes. plus there is the scent.hanselthecaretaker said:What's the biggest thing you've seen him eat? 6 feet....better keep him in a cage cuz he could eat small dogs, cats, hell even babies if he got out.

It has been reported numberous times in the wild, but never in captivity. Reticulated Pythons are usually the culprit. I saw part of a video where one was swallowing a gazelle or something like that... and in another video, one was swallowing a medium sized tiger. They are ambush hunters, as they (obviously) could never catch those type of animals otherwise.Delinquent said:Actually I saw a documentary on Natgeo about big snakes where a 20+ ft anaconda stalked and killed a man in South or central America. It also reported on a 20+ ft reticulated python that killed a woman. They claimed that anything over 16 ft will have the ability to open its jaws wide enough to swallow a human. For this to happen though, the human must be on it's side so that the collar bones don't inhibit the snake's swallowing.

boas don't do shit like that. plus, they hardly ever reach the true giant status. pythons are the potentially dangerous ones.HeatherRae said:I saw a video reinactment on the discovery channel where a zookeeper got in trouble handling a boa by himself and it started constricting him. He said that his life was flashing before his eyes and he was marvelling at what a dumb way he was going to die. I forget what happened that he got away. That is why I asked. So, evidently, even though they don't usually do it, it happens once in a blue moon.
