And not in the good way.... :(
We were walking our dogs and he started running with one of them and trip and fell in the asphalt in front of the house.... slit open both his palms and knee, it was Sunday and all Walk in clinics nearby where closed, and he coudlnt flex his knee or elbow so couldnt drive either, I dont have a license but know how to drive, he refused to let me since he was afraid a cop would pull us over and we'd be in worse shit.....he toughed it up until today, we found a clinic and he drove, they x-ray his arm, elbow and wrist, seems he has a broken elbow and might need surgery, we'll need to see an orthopedic surgeon this week and get a second opinion..... They put him in a splint and he also has a torn hamstring... they sent him Vicodin for the pain...

Here's the most shitty part.... our insurance covers 100% AFTER deductible is met, so this will probably be all on us.... we've NEVER been to a Dr here, when you get billed by insurance do you have to pay the whole damn thing or do they usually have payment plans? I have no idea how to proceed now.... I did go inside my network to a preferred Dr to keep the cost down but I have no idea how much they bill my insurance and how much my insurance will bill us.... FML

payment is due when services are rendered.

it can't be that much. deductibles usually are $1500-$3000. considering it'll probably be tens of thousands of dollars, that's not bad. although you better use your benefits as much as possible after that because it resets for the calender year

All of those treatments should fall under the same episode of care. You'll hit the deductible fast and insurance should take over from there (or something like 80/20). Plus there may be a cap at which point insurance takes over 100%.

I feel ya ,i'm in the same boat ,needing Eye surgery and no insurance

The insurance won't bill you, the doctor's office will. They will likely bill the insurance first, then they can determine how much of the cost is applied toward your deductible (aka, how much you will have to pay). You should be able to make payment plans for medical costs. No interest. Just sayin'.

I know a lot of people who would just pay what they can each month to hospital for stuff. I wouldn't recommend this because she had nothing for them to even go after anyway. Put she had over $20,000 in medical bills and just paid $20 a month and they didn't say anything to her.

First time out of the box insurance is different than when you've been covered for a while (more than a year).

You might get statements from the insurance company saying they are awaiting additional information from the doctor's office before they will process payment. This means they probably have sent the docs office a pre-existing condition form. You need to call the doctor's office and remind them to fill out that form and send it in ASAP or they don't get paid.

Second, copayments are due at the time you go to the doctors office (those are small amounts of money, usually $15 to $35 range). You will receive bills from the doctor's office LATER (and this could be up to six months later, believe it or not) for your portion of your bill (like Plunky said, most of them split something like 80/20). You almost always can negotiate a payment plan with the doctor's office if you can't afford the full payment (when my husband got his polysomnograms and CPAP machine, for example, our portion of the bill came to about $750 one month. I called the billing office immediately and worked out a payment plan. They usually don't charge interest).

In the end, read all papers carefully, don't go out of network and get preapproval for EVERYTHING that isn't life threatening and will be costly (imaging, surgery).

And for heaven's sake, get your American driver's license ASAP!

You WON'T have to pay the total deductible at once. Just get with each doc office and setup a payment schedule once you recieve the bill.

Btw pics or that shit didn't happen

Are you fucking happy now? He fell so hard he ripped his zigs :(

We did pay our urgent care copayment of $60 and I asked the Dr about the rest and he said they billed the insurance company and then the insurance company contacts me, I could have had a low $500 deductible but that implied only 80/20 coverage once met, the $2000 has 100% after deductible so it's way higher but that way I know if we're seriously ill they'll pic up most of the bill, he's never visited a Dr here so it's pretty much impossible to have accusations of pre-existing conditions, specially because it was due to a fall.

@MM I'm not supposed to drive, I have a medical conditions/eye sight issue that stops me from driving, I probably wouldnt even pass the eye exam at the DMV... I know how to drive but it's impossible for me to park if the spaces next to me are occupied or I have to parallel park

Funny thing at the Dr's, when I asked him about the treatment for the torn calf he looks at me dead serious and says "well he's gonna need to rest, take it easy and have LOTS of sex" :lmao: I'm pretty sure he didnt know it was me who gets favored in that, when we got back home I asked my husband "do you want to start the treatment now?" when he said yes I asked if he wanted to start first with the Vicodin or the sex xD ;) Dr also literally told my husband "you're one tough son of a bitch" for bearing the pain of the fracture for a day and not complaining while at the office....

Okay just to shed some light on this situation, this is not the first time your husband has been fucked. I;m thinking he was fucked at birth and then again when he said I do. :)

is your husband athletic? how the hell do you do all that from running.

Yea man he's the running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars bro.

I was thinking more like the star of the chess club in high school

So why can't a nugga be athletic and good at chess?

Hope you get everything worked out with your insurance & your husband feels better soon :)

I hope you post more pics, soon. :)

Did I mention I owned this thread now and that you nugga's should STFU?

oh shit thats funny. lol. he must of been maching it for all that damage. i think he needs more milk. american health care sucks. canadian helath care sucks but its at least free. ur health care really sucks

Gut damn it this is mine and Planks thread

@smurf = I miss CR now.... they take 9% of your salary and that's it, you go to a dr and you dont pay medication, xrays. labs, chemo, whatever... Here I saw it this way, if we are hospitalized or have a severe accident it wont go under $10,000 so that would mean I pay $500 deductible PLUS 20% so $2000 and any other thing that year I'm paying 20% of too, with this one I have that same scenario means I pay only $2000 AND I can get anything else covered 100% during the rest of the year...

You're such a fucking fgt for even looking at soccer related things

Wow this is so terrible.

I can't believe it--you have a husband?

I take back everything I said to you in PMs you bish.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Got an appointment with the Ortho on Thursday, really hope the first Dr is wrong, the xray isnt that definitive... they gave us a CD with the images, Ima see em again... the irony is we were exercising to lose weight for our company's "biggest loser" competition... does this count as a work related accident?LMAO;)

Isn't that for people who are pushing 300+ lbs?

you mean you take back saying you're a raging psychopath with impulse and control issues? oh wait that was all over the forums not private, my bad....

That sucks about the medical bills. I would have gone for the cheap deductible too.
I know he broke his elbow and tore his hamstring, but the pictures of his scratched palms and knee don't really make it look too bad though and in fact look like your run of the mill bobo- just sayin!
*ducks*
Hope he recovers soon.

Yeah it sucks that you have a high deductible. I have one, too, going to burn through it getting an MRI and some surgery.

Torn hamstring sounds pretty bad. I kinda agree with Trex, the initial description made it sound like his palms and knees were these enormous gaping wounds, but after seeing the pics, I've gotten injuries like that from skateboarding.

I had no idea you can't see well enough to legally drive.

Yeah, they call nan's husband, Mr. Glass.

how do you not have a license? you've been here longer than him and are a US citizen.

you've made numerous posts about having a car and driving one.

I dare you to find ONE post about me driving her ein the US, I did make posts about buying a car, then my car breaking down and then buying another car, also made another about selling my car in CR but I DONT drive,my mom or husband have always driven me around, if not I take the bus or stay home, I have a visual impairment that prevents me from driving, I drove a handful of times in CR without a license but never here, again I dont think I'd even pass the eye evaluation and am unable to park

Na girl. We live in Florida. They'll prob forget to even give you a vision test, go get a license. :-)

They never gave me one. I need glasses to drive but my license doesn't say so.

that sucks Nan/ have you always had this vision problem? I wonder who can see better - Nan or SB?
I have no depth perception hence why I cant park and it is not safe to drive... here are some examples

KCVision

Mine is pretty severe, only surgery to correct it now is corneal transplant.

by the description, it sounds like he got hit by a car. not landed on some asphalt.

dude must be fragile. Torn hamstring and broken elbow? I could understand just a broken elbow, but the torn hamstring is hard to even imagine.

does he crack ribs when he sneezes?

I was referring to your posts about buying a car and having it breakdown. You having a license seemed to be a fair assumption since cars usually require operating in order to break down. My mistake.

can you at least practice(safe location) so you are able to get used to driving with your vision problems. just as any new driver, they get adjusted in gauging distances, angels ect or like driving a truck vs small car, wider turns ect. you just get used to your vision calculation until your comfortable with the roads.

damned, if i'd just be resigned to depending on someone to get me everywhere for an undetermined amount of time.

I completely empathize about the driving! That's actually why I said what I did. I cannot drive either, I've never had a driver's license. Not being able to take my husband somewhere if there were an emergency, since we do go on camping vacations, has been a major fear of my husband and mine.

I also have a depth perception problem, too, it's not something you can "medically" diagnose. It's tied into my dyscalculia. There's nothing wrong with my eyes, but I can't interpret the information correctly, I can't judge distance and rate of speed (also have major problems with directions). Apparently the part of the brain that is responsible for all the math stuff also has to do with spacial relationships. I figure I'd be a bigger danger on the road than not.

Learn the number of a regional taxi company and always keep $40 in cash on you, that should get you to most ERs.

I hope your husband's recovery is swift.

Why wouldn't she call an ambulance?
wtf? how often does a trip to the ER actually require an ambulance?
why incur the added cost when she could just drive him there/take a cab?
40 bucks is better than paying 675 bucks for an ambulance when you don't really need one.

because if she can;t freaking afford medical bills, how is she going to manage with the added expense of an ambulance?

simple...

People that can't afford their medical bills aren't gonna pay them anyways. So what's another added expense on something that's not gonna get paid anyways.

You know that, duh!

well nan portrays herself as someone who cares about bills, credit, etc. Despite being a common law mexican...

Well ortho told us he broke his radial/radius bone he will NOT need suregery though, I am very hapy with that, he just needs to wear a splint this week, a sling for one or two weeks and then start moving his arm, says 6 weeks and he should be good as new unless there is lots of scaring that may fuck up his mobility, seems that when he fell on his palm/wrists the shock was absorbed by that bone and it cracked.... he got more vicodin.

My best gay friend broke his radial when he was running around my apt in heels, fell and hit his arm on my desk. :( lolol

...he's fine now though, so I'm sure hubgiggles will be too. :)

I shattered my radial head and needed three screws to put it back together again. Felt bad, man.

It was a skateboarding incident.

(I was chasing some kid who stole my skateboard wheels and tripped)

sorry to hear about all this nan...

didnt want to read and run
