My "Before" pics

Very good legs.
In my opinion you first have to get ripped and later gain muscle...
Yeah that would have been easier, but my goals and interests aren't really bodybuilding per se. I guess "powerbuilding" would be a good way to descride what I'm in to -- not really wanting to compete in anything, just get strong and look decent.

I started out (after myl last layoff 5 years ago) somewhat lean and just kept bulking and bulking. A few fat loss phases thrown in would have kept me from having to go on an extended cutting phase. Live and learn :)

I took some pics today so I can gauge my progress as I cut. Well the camera doesn't lie- I'm fatter than I thought :)

Seriously I'm a bit disappointed by my condition in these pics. Thought I looked better, especially my traps and back overall. Also, the leg pic really doesn't do me justice. Oh well. I'm putting my first serious effort into losing weight and I'll update this post every so often. I've got a journal going in the training forum if anyone cares to see it and help out.

I'm thinking it's gonna take a good 25 pounds of fat loss to get where I want to be (I'm 6 ft. 240 at the moment and I previously guessed my bf% at around 17, but now I'm thinking more like 20).

This is the shot I'm most concerned with for progress tracking- relaxed from the side (abs are flexed though):

ur tits are a bit floppy, but for ur gut it doesnt look like theres all taht much fat in the area IMO

Well here's my update. Nthing spectacular - the pics look about the same to me but my belly's at 40.15", which is down from 41.5" to start, and 41" since the last pics. I thought that drop would show up more. Oh well. It's progress and I haven't lost an ounce of muscle from what I can tell. Actually the scale said 238 upon waking this morning, which is UP a pound from last update. I think I oughta start some cardio to get the fat loss accelerated. I mean, I'm glad that the belly's shrinking but I think I should be able to lose it faster, especially at first. Opinions?

BTW there seems to be quite a lighting diff. from the last update (my arm looks like a bag of water in the flexed bicep pic :)). I may take some more pics to see if I can reproduce the same conditions as last time. Maybe that'll make me feel a bit better :) :

You look a little smaller in the side-on pic, but so does your chest. Difficult to tell because you're facing the opposite direction. Did you reverse one of the pics or do you have the same tat on both arms?

Yeh, I'd add some cardio or this might take a while ;)

The pic was taken in front of the mirror in my bathroom, hence the transpositon

Beefcaaaaaaaaaake! /cartman

I agree - I'm thinking I'll do some cardio on the "easy" weeks of HST and then tone it down for the "tough" weeks.

Definitely some visible fat loss. Adding cardio would obviously help accelerate the process and, like Tom mentioned in your journal, would be preferable to just trying to cut an equivalent number of calories. I'm still an advocate of counting calories or, at the very least, working out general requirement/intake numbers once so you have a better idea of where you stand and what rate of weight loss you can expect.

You might also consider supplementing with Windex before your next pics. :FRlol:

Agreed. My food intake is very close day-to-day, I just don't know exactly what the cal count comes to. I imagine it's hovering around 3k/day, maybe more. I guess I DO need to bite the bullet and count, but I'm lazy as fuck and dieting to me is work, not fun like lifting.

That IS windex in the streaks - I thought I wiped it all but apparently some dried up w/out me noticing :)

Just count once in a while to make sure your macro's are where you want them. Don't go crazy though or you'll quit. Just take your time. Your making progress now and you'll get there. Don't try to get there to quick or your chances of failure are higher. Just keep at it and keep the documenting.

Good work bro....
