Mr. Olympia Weekend Thread

New member
Fitness Olympia Finals, Ms. Olympia Finals and Mr. Olympia Judging kicked off at 7pm in Las Vegas. If you have a feed/PPV feel free to post results here.

If they offer PPV here I'll tune in and post results as they come tomorrow (if OK by EF)

http://mrolympia.com/schedule.htm

I'm rooting for Ronnie...but I am bad luck so hopefully I'll jinx him and Jay will win. :coffee:

There is a web cast for $24 for the entire weekend but I think I'll hold out for PPV. I haven't seen prices for it yet. I hope it is under $50.

They're not doing PPV from what i've found.

Just that damned webcast shite...

I'm looking into a way to hook up my pc to a big TV.

Just saw the pics. Looks like Ronnie has number 9. Jay looks great and it's close, but I know how they judge the O. It's all about size. Victor looks great also and could get 3rd. Dexter is not in his usual conditioning, but still looks great.

Makavelli where did you see the pics at? I heard Ronnie was coming in this year at 300+. How is his stomach looking?

I talked to Silver from this board he's there. And then I saw the pics on Muscle Graphics. Ronnie's gut is very distended and his waist is bigger. He's also lost a lot of detail in his back. He's smoother. Jay looks incredible and I hope he wins. I just know how they judge the O though. One good thing is that they moved the top four around to compare them to each other. Something they didn't do in the past.

Hoteach and I ae there and Jay and Ronnie both look amazing. Jay and Ronnie both have improvements over last year. IMO, Jay should get it but if they judge like they did w/ the women last night. Ronnie will win. They went with the politically correct winnners for fitness and FBB. Not the women that should have one. We'll see soon enough..

That's what I've heard. Keep us up to date bro!

I think this is Jay's year but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

But they are also noticeably harder and more seperated.

but if the judges are looking for sheer size, ronie will win, but for quality muscle, id vote jay. plus ronnie has some odd looking abs, jays are much better.

He really looks good, better than I thought, I hope Jay can pull it off...............

6th place: $30,000 Gustavo Badell
5th place: $38,000 Melvin Anthony
4th place: $48,000 Dexter Jackson
3rd place: $60,000 Victor Martinez

"We have a new champ, ladies and gentleman. Jay Cutler, after numerous second-place finishes, has knocked out the champ. It's pandemonium here at the Orleans Arena. This is an amazing bodybuilding moment. Goosebumps."

I was just about to say it'd have to be by a long shot from what i just saw of the pre-judging pics! That's awesome, congrats J!

WOOHOOO!!

JAY WON!!!

Quick overview from the site:

2006 Mr. O Overview:

Men's Top 10
We're getting close to posedown time for the men. First, they will receive their participation medals from Ben Weider.

Ronnie's getting his medal now, so we're about to move on to the top 10 announcement.

Victor Martinez, Melvin Anthony, Gustavo Badell, Gunter Schlierkamp, Toney Freeman, Dexter Jackson, Dennis James, Jay Cutler, Markus Ruhl, and Ronnie Coleman are in the top 10. The judges went for the big guys in the O once again for the most part.

10th place: $14,000, Gunter Schlierkamp
9th place: $16,000 Dennis James
8th place: $17,000 Markus Ruhl
7th place: $18,000 Toney Freeman

The top six take center stage -- Victor, Melvin, Gustavo, Dexter, Ronnie and Jay. Doing quarter turns. Ronnie chant erupts, crowd is getting restless. Of course, chant started by his family...

Is it Jay? Is it Ronnie? The posedown begins, the scores are being tallied. History is about to be made, one way or another. The excitement is palpable. It's a crazy scene.

Jim Manion is on his way backstage with the scores.

Crowd is on it's feet. Phil Heath was actually one of the first to get up and cheer.

Here we go:

Guys go off the stage for some water ...

I know, I know -- it's getting crazy, we want to know who wins this thing! A couple more minutes. In the meantime, Lee Haney has taken the stage.

"Ronnie's out to break the record, I'm here to cheer him on, but he has his hands full," Haney said.

Shawn Ray was just handed the results. Whatever is to happen, is done ... it's all over but the announcing.

Haney is going to win the Flex Vanguard Award tonight ... he had some very nice words to say. Now he's being asked who he thinks has won tonight: "I am going to leave that up to the judges."

6th place: $30,000 Gustavo Badell
5th place: $38,000 Melvin Anthony
4th place: $48,000 Dexter Jackson
3rd place: $60,000 Victor Martinez -- he made his goal of the top three.

And the winner of the 2006 Mr. Olympia is Jay Cutler. OH MY GOD!

I'm estatic....I wish it was on TV. Must be insane there right now!!

Damn...I winder what the hell Ronnie will do...retire?!?

Congrats to Jay.

someone better post a vid soon . Reading the exciment is like listening to a movie on radio or some 40's type shit.

I seen the pics, and I definatly think ronnie should have won.

I hope they make a video of it. Damn bastards idn't even go the PPV route - it must not be that profitable to run PPV for the Olympia.

The best way for me to judge is to see both guys up there at the same time.

This has to be one of the bigger upsets in the History of the O. Ronnie I hear is furious.

Fuck Ronnie, he didn't bring it. He paid for complacency, his gyno was awful and he was a smooth as a baby's ass

I was there
it was UNBELIEVABLE when Jay won
I about lept out of my skin
the crowd went absolutely insane screaming and chanting for Jay

Cutler earned it. He looked great, hard as nails, full, and he commanded the stage
Coleman looked soft, he came in too heavy and paid the price

What did ronnie and jay do when they announced the winner? Did ronnie take it like a man or roll his eyes or something. Jay just looked great but they are all winners just for making it thru the last week! :)

I have respect for Ronnie Coleman because he's always been a good sport. He acted professionally, shook Jays hand, took his check, and smiled for the cameras. After that, he quietly walked off stage.

I saw him about an hour later at the Gala. He showed up in a good mood and spent about 2 hours talking to people and letting them take his picture. He said he'd be back next year.

well thats good, it sounds like he acted in a mature and classy way and I commend him for that. I wanted Jay to win and I am also glad he did. I would hate to see anything on stage that would be "dirty play" of sorts. Thanks for the update!

Gunther pouted when they gave him 10th place. :D He kinda stormed off stage. Otherwise, all the boys were on their best behavior.

I hope Ronnie comes to his senses and hangs it up. He is a great champion and I would hate to see his legacy destroyed because he tried to hang around too long. All sports have had champs that just tried to keep playing for too long. I hope Ronnie doesn't do that. I know he said he is coming back, but I think time may change that. He has not been getting each year. I think he peaked around 2000 and then just got bigger, which didn't improve his physique.

I disagree, I think Ronnie should take a hard look in the mirror, realize that heavier isnt always better. He should take a year off of competition and overhaul his physique. Come in at 270ish and diced. With the muscle maturity he has, all he has to do is slim down some, even if that means losing some of his muscle. It all comes down to genetics, and theres no one with better genetics than him. Theres no doubt in my mind that he can come into the olympia in a couple years transformed and absolutely blow everyone else outta the water.

Yery true - Ronnie is not out of the game yet. Plus, if he intended to retire I bet he would have announced it already. He'll be back nexy year

My point being that Ronnie's body is not responding like it used to. He was softer this year and holding water when in the past he was dry as fuck with virtually every area on his body shredded, particularly his back. This year Jay's back was harder. I have a lot of respect for Ronnie, but I don't want to see him come in worse every year and ruin his legacy.

I agree with Mak on this one. Ronnie's back, glutes, and hams weren't near as hard as they were in the past. He was the heaviest he has ever been at this O, but his conditioning wasn't what it should have been. Jay killed it conditioning wise, he deserved the win. His back looked great, which is what always decides the Olympia.

Hey bro, thanks for keeping me up to date while you were there. How was the trip?

I'm glad ronnie lost, and not to say Jay didn't look good, but Victor looked good and Melvin was on point. I liked Melvin or Dexter for the whole thing.

No prob bro! I enjoyed it. The trip back went well, nothing too eventful. I got some pics from the expo that I need to post up so everyone can see how small I look next to Quincy Taylor.

His legs this year were balloon-like. It was just odd. He must have a distorted view of his physique because he was way off. Hats off to Jay, I'd still rather see Dexter go to the top.

According to Jay on bodybuilding radio Dexter told Ronnie before they announced the top six back stage that he would not win this year. Jay overheard it and apparently Ronnie crouched to the ground and started praying. That explains in the video when they were announcing Jay as the new Mr. O why Ronnie was acting so weird. Normally he is very confident when it's just him and Jay standing there. This year he was pacing and fidgeting. He also apparently told Jay that he(Jay) won before they announced it.

That makes sense to me. Ronnie is usually very confident on-stage. He looked totally out of it up there. He was shifting his weight back and forth with his hands on his hips and was looking down a lot. He handled it as well as could be expected. He was smiling and laughing at the after party. I'm sure he was sick over it, but he stayed composed and didn't pout.

Ronnie is not out of the game yet. The guy is one hell of a bodybuilder.

I'd give him one more year to knock down the record - if he can't make the cut next year then he needs to retire.

He didn't win this year but he is not 100% out of the game.

I also think about it this way - if I was in his shoes and was one win away from the damn record would I quit after dedicating my entire life to the sport - FUCK NO!

I couldn't imagine him walking away now, unless he had a devastating injury. I think he needs to come in 12-15 pounds lighter. He was 25 pounds heavier than jay on-stage, but his conditioning wasn't as good.

if he comes in at 275-280 he'll be rocking.

Even Jay said he should retire and brought the example of Jordan. If Ronnie comes back and not just loses, but places third or fourth what will happen to his legacy? His body is just not responding like it used to.

Totally agree, the human body can't continue to improve year after year FOREVER. Ronnie reached his potential and dominated the sport for nearly a decade. Now a much younger Jay Cutler who is still improving bested the champ. It happens to all of the greats. Jordan should have never came back and I don't think Ronnie should either but in the end its Ronnie's choice and none of ours.
