Olympia 2006 Figure - Pre-Judging Pictures

Hey, ladies. We have a lot of figure girls in this forum, so I made sure to get a lot of figure pictures. These that follow are pictures that my boyfriend took. I took a bunch with my camera, as well, but left the cable I need to transfer them at home. (I'm still in Vegas.)

He didn't get any pictures of Monica or Jenny Lynn, but I did - so I'll post mine tomorrow. If you're competing, these pictures might help you out.


*Bunny* -
Valerie Waugaman is 5'9" with contest weight at 140. She looked beautiful, and Jeff managed to get some good pictures of her. If you don't know who she is, just look for the REALLY tall one. :D lolol - she's next to Latisha Wilder in these pics, and Latisha is 5'1" and 108 lbs.

I got a chance to ask Jenny Lynn some questions regarding figure and what the judges were looking for. She said that each year, they keep asking for the girls to get smaller, leaner and tighter, and it's been a struggle for them. Jenny managed to pull off what they were looking for, but some of the girls took it too far and came in looking scary thin.

I was shocked when I saw Monica Brant and Mary Lado (off stage, in person - and on stage) They both lost A LOT of their muscle tone in an effort to come in "smaller, leaner & tighter". Mary Lado looked haggard up close, but Monica looked OK. They were skinny, tho - and the judging showed it. Jenny looked great. Nice muscle, not too lean, and healthy. Her face up close wasn't scary. She looked good.
 
Thanks for posting the pics! They are great! I hope I can see one of Ms. Brandt with less muscle, because i cannot imagine it!!!
 
I found these pics on a site. So you ladies can see how Jenny, Monica, and Amber looked.

TSO, what did you think of Monica's top on stage, from the pics it looks like it takes alittle attention from her physique.

Also there was another girl I don't know her name, but OMG she had some ugly suits, I really didn't even notice her body, her suit was shaped weird, both of them. lol.

While I doubt these ladies are natural (being they're pros), you would be surprised how you can get your body to look naturally with diet and exercise!!!

And regardless of what they took, I guarantee you that they worked their asses off, much more than many will ever know!

And Monica's suit was done by PassionFruit designs......very different for her, but beautiful nonetheless.....

And Jenny looks great as usual.....
 
"Smaller, leaner, tighter" = these girls, after Figure has been heading more towards the size of a small female bodybuilder means they will all have to start stripping off muscle like was stated (lost a bunch of muscle) so they are basically doing the same thing but on a smaller scale - but it is different from the past trend so the established girls will need to strip down first.

"Tighter" means they are probably going to be jacking up on the anti-estrogens & diuretics. Great. Most will rely on AAS in some form to maintain their shape and recover more quickly with regard to "competing" for a living - basically having to maintain some sort of "competition shape" most of the year, but probably increased reliance on those things that help to cut out the estrogen related fat.

Monica and Mary Lado looked much better in pictures than they did in person on stage. Mary Lado was hella thin. IMO, Monica didn't have a nice cap on her shoulders like she usually does. Her legs were also very thin. We should bring up pics of her and Mary from the Arnold to compare. I know there's a big difference.


The suit you're talking about was worn by Waugman. I didn't like it either.

Oh I know her was done by Berns, she did my red 1 remember. :) I was just wondering what I fully-stoned suit looks like on stage, under the lights, in the pics it looks like she's modeling the suit, not the suit showing off her physique, if you know what I mean.

I think it's possible to go overboard on the suit is what I'm getting at. It's a beauitful suit, just think it may be too much. But I also didn't see it on stage, either.

It wasn't too much. Her suite looked good on her. There were a couple others that hurt your eyes to look at - not good IMO.

I do think Monica looked smaller than before also.

And yea that's her Valerie Waugaman, she's a beauitful girl, but damn I really can't say the same about those suits. I'm sorry but whoever made them, needs not to make those again, lol. Can you tell I really don't like them!

I didn't know you already knew Monica's suits were made by Berns, so I mentioned it cuz I figured you'd be interested since your red one was made by her.....

Monica's suit is a very different look as in the color pattern, etc - not something you usually see....

Nope........most contests aren't actually "all natural" unless they say they are or unless they are put on by an all-natural organization, such as the OCB.....

Berns had mentionned she was doing Monica's. She also did Alicia Marie's like that, she's calling them crystal couture suits. Cause they are fully stoned in a pattern using different colour stones. She's done a few others also.

They're nice, but just don't know how I feel about them, lol.
 
I don;t like them. Too busy, too much IMHO.

Also, IMO, Monica has looked rough in the face for several years now. Every Olympia I have been to since she "came back" she has looked rough up close - too many years of tanning and dieting. But that is just my 2 cents for whatever they are worth.

As for "all natural" - LMAO - no way. AT this level of competition (and at any pro competition and even msot national qualifiers) the top people are using SOMETHING. May be GH, may be AAS. But they are NOT all natural.

Also I really don't like the direction of this new "tighter" *cough aneroxic* look. Monica lost most of her delt cap and a good part of her trade mark legs very sad.

no problem. I was relieved to see that the judges didn't favor that look. Especially Mary Lado. that girl was skinny. She placed...what? 5th? You should have seen the look of surprise on her face, and Monica's. they were extremely upset.

I was honestly more impressed with the bodies I saw at Canada's figure nationals that at the O.

Its sad that women's physique competition borders on one of the most thankless pursuits on the planet. At the end of the day its all about T&A and selling tickets to the shows, but it doesn't seem like it would take much more than a few days' effort by the federations to figure out the guidelines and stick to them instead of being wishywashy and generally floundering all over wtf "feminine" or "physique" is.

Seriously - does anyone look at how big Jay Cutler's package is relative to the rest of his body? Girls get all sorts of shit if their cleavage isn't in balance w/ the rest of their physique. And who is to say what "feminine" is anyway? To the judges its "who banged who" or "whose pants you'd like to get into". That makes for a healthy career pursuit.

ok what is up with this posing (side) with few of these ladies ... I know at some shows you can get away with a slight twist with the side pose but was anyone who was there hear the judges call them out to put arms to side?

I don't follow Monica Brant much but I didn't even recognize her is those pics at first - I had the blonde fuller look imprinted in my head.

lol I like her hair darker actually. Just looking that the pics you posted from last year and the 1s I posted you can see she lost some sizes.

Who knows next year I may have some :verygood:

Anyway, Jay is guest poster at the 12/9 show in Chicago, maybe I should ask him his thoughts on that :D

I prefer the darker too.

That's why I was confused when I saw those pics in another O thread, when they were from the 05 sac show. Silly me for not reading but now I know why I was confused about Monica being 'skinny', I was like what am I missing!

I don't have a comment on her suits but I have a feeling they probably looked better in person on that stage vs in pics.

LOL I know its beating a dead horse but sometimes when you look at a discussion at the various levels of comment, the whole thing is still silly when you look at what you have to work w/ - i.e. the lack of clear judging criteria and all the work, dedication & impact on both life & body that goes into it. It really is a shame and it is just one more thing that women have to try to operate within to do the things that we value & enjoy doing.



But to the boob comment -- seriously -- if you want to compete at a national or pro level, its assumed you have to get a boob job, despite the fact that breasts are the one part of your body you can assume will disappear when you diet down. Can you think of a more contradictory aspect of this whole pursuit?? Weird. I've seen Dayana Cadeau when she had an implant blowout - holy god. What a mess that was.

Anyway ... again dismounting from the rant.


I wonder how long before they make the suits used by figure competitors return to just plain solid colors w/ no bling because it becomes more about the suits and less about the physique.
 
Sassy you are pretty much right on point about figure judging. It is completely wishy washy it is truely a sport where pretty much have to make your own goal. Rather then the goal of winning becuase seriously you can come in looking the best and not win why cause they went another direction for that show.

Jenny Lynn used a pretty clever trick. When they asked them to do quarter turns during comparison, she was about a second behind the other girls every time. Just enough to get noticed. Every time.

OK. I'm a :nerd: because I got one freakin picture of Jenny Lynn. Duh. Not a very good one, either. Apparently, I suck as a photographer, because most of mine were blurry. :D Sorry. I did manage to get some good ones, so here they are.

Totally agree! I was very dissapointed in the figure pics. (Not your photography TSO! :) )
And wtf happened to Monica Brandt?! A lot of these ladies have lost their hard-earned muscle because of these loser guidelines or whatever.

I did think some of the fitness chics looked great, though. I saw them on some site. Did you get any pics of them Shorty??
