Men have NO RIGHTS.

Generally no.
One child - perhaps.
But that is not usually the case, we're usually looking at 3, 4, 5 kids and ironically enough - several fathers.

That truly repulses me - for so many different reasons. (That's a whole new thread entirely.)

Here's a thought - Christine Brinkley has popped out 1-2 children per man she's been with (I think she's on her third now) - had she not have the benefit of wealth what would that make her?

Velvet" I believe that Trance stated that his attitude was the cause for so many welfare mommies.

Do you think that these welfare mommies are taking responsiblity for their actions by using his attitude as a motivational factor to live off other taxes?

You completely misconstrued my point. I didn't say make that statement to agree or sympathize with the fact that women are having babies to get welfare. Whole 'nother thread there...

What I meant is that men who refuse to pay support do NOTHING for the economy OR the taxpayers, let alone their children. Many broke young mothers are forced to turn to welfare due to the fact that they cannot afford to pay for daycare while working in a low-paying job.

Is it right? No. Do I think that some single moms don't take the initiative to do everything in their power to be self-sufficient? Sure, in some cases. But sometimes it's unavoidable. I became seriously ill while pregnant. I couldn't work. I had to receive food stamps for a while, and go to a free health care clinic. It was demeaning. It was horrifying. But I did it, because I had no choice. All the while, my son's father was resting on his laurels, making 60K per year.

However, it's not a matter of how you *want* to live. It's a matter of doing what you need to do to survive and take good care of your child.

I don't like receiving child support, in a way. I'd like to take those checks and throw them back in his face and say, "Screw you, I don't need your money." But the truth is that I do.

It's not easy to take someone to court for support. It's not easy to ask for money from a man you fear. It's not easy to know that your child's father hates both you and him for no logical reason.

But that's the way it is.

I wish people would quit bringing morality into this debate.

Morality does not have a place within our legislation.

I am not saying that people should not have morals..I have always fought to the contrary.

However, laws should be based upon ethics. That is equality for both men and women

I have agreed with you thus far but I have to call you on this...ethics is the study of the standards of right and wrong dealing with moral conduct. The two: morality and ethics, are directly intertwined. It is about morality, any way we look at it. About what is right and what is wrong. Thank you.l

I also refuse to accept the fact that it should be up to the woman to decide what happens to the baby..

If I am responsible for the baby after it is born..I should have the responsiblilty to the babies health before birth as well.

you are 100 percent correct. I could not agree with you more.

Trance, in regard to your initial post, congratulations. My (now) wife and I faced the same predicament, only at 18. My 18 month old daughter is the best thing in the world.

THanks for the great discussion today people I sent her the link and she was greatly suprised at the responses that this topic garnered. I might have had bouts of immaturity during the thread and for that I apoligze but I think I was right in everything I said and stick to it 100% thanks to all that participated and special thanks to dgreen as for the longest time my only ally in the storm =p. Much love to ya brotha at least I know someone shares my state of mind on this.

The point here is about legislation and it is unfair..The laws should change to reflect equality to both men and women...not feel sorry for women both before during and after pregnancy..

I am going to try an keep this objective.....

Under current laws, men do not have a fair say in the matters of an unborn child. Since the child is 50% theirs they should be given the right to make their decisions known and stongly considered.....However, It probably should be looked at from the view of what is best for the "unheard" voice...meaning that of the child.....

But then what? If the men decide they don't want to partake in the life of their unborn child, what would happen next? Possibly a one time fee or "payoff"? What if 15 years down the line he changes his mind? I believe if not child-support that some compensation will always be present....

And on the other side of the coin....if the men want the baby and the woman doesn't?....Shouldn't she have to carry the baby to term, with the man taking full-responsibility after conception? In terms of what is best for the child, it is better than the alternative

There are so many other factors to consider as well, like the right of the grandparents.....for example in Drizzt's case. He NEVER wants kids (so he has stated)....if his parents know this fully, do they have the right to step in and support their grandchild? And what about medical information, or things that may effect the child or parents down the road? What if they needed a kidney transplanet...or are discovered to have a life-threatening disease?

I am rambling a bit, lot of thoughts coming to mind at once....but I do see both sides to the situation. And I would have to say that the current laws are not always appropriate for the many situations that arise....

I have to say after reading this entire thread, I have changed my views a little.

I have always been on the fence on this issue anyhow.....

But its interesting to take a look from the males side....

But either way, I don't understand why people feel the need to have random sex and not think about the consequences?

It's a sticky subject... If a man were given the right to say wether a woman could have an abortion or not, it would just lead to the woman not telling him. I'm willing to bet there are men on this board who have gotten a woman pregnant and will never know.

If the government stepped in, women would just have back alley abortions.

I feel for the men, but I guess it what happens in today's view of casual sex, independence, etc.. What alternatives are there??

too much to write...but I'll try to be concise.

I think that as 2 sentient, mature adults, the people invovled shoud be able to come to a fair compromise depending on the situation without having to bring in the law. I find it very sad that it was necessary for her to take him to court to resolve this issue. To me, this is is very clearly an issue of social and personal obligations that a parent should have the decency to fulfill without even the need to bring the law in as enforecement. In other words, this is simply an issue of basic human decency.

As far as legal rights go, I compare child support to littering fines. If you are caught littering on the highways, you can be fined a substantial amount. The way I see it, if a man gets a woman pregnant and for whatever reason, medical, personal, or religious, she decides to keep the baby -- he is basically littering on society if he tries to weasel out of taking care of that child, and so yes, he should be fined.

A couple of other points:

1. It was not an easy decision. A woman put her body thru 9 months of torture, knowing that the father may never provide any emotional or financial support. And if she was hoping for child support, and she can read and write, she probably already knows that it will be like pulling teeth to get any financial support from him. So unless she is a sucker for pain and torture, I don't think she was hoping that by getting pregnant, it would be her ticket to financial freedom.

2. It does not matter who did not want the baby. If he had gotten genital herpes instead of a woman pregnant, he'd be unhappy about the outcome, but, what matters is how he will take care of it. He made the choice to sleep with someone he didn't care about, and consequently his baby has been brought into the world and he should have enough human decency to make sure that the baby is taken care of.

3. Child support. The thing about child support is that it should cover just that, the amount of money it costs to keep that child clothed, schooled, fed, sheltered. That way no one can sit there and accuse the receiver of being a money grubber. If she is capable of caring for that child without the absentee father/bastard then child support should be minimal and should be deposited to a savings account in the child's name not to be accessed by anyone other than the child.

4. The father's rights. After the child is born, his rights becomes the same as that of the child's and the mothers -- the right to make sure that his offspring is taken well care of.

Just my pov. :)

pregnancy

Stuff like this happens all the time. Sorry just read this thread today. I never wanted children and when i say i never wanted children i meant it. I like to work and go where i wanna go when i wanna go there. Any way i had a one night stand 5 years ago that produced a son. I thoght no big deal. I'm a grown man i can handle this and at least if i was going to have one kid it was a boy.
Fade to two years ago. I'd had a steady girlfriend for about 6 months and we had moved in together. Did all the responsible stuff like having the aids test so that she could go on the pill and we could stop using condoms. Her idea by the way. Three months later she tells me that she's pregnant. Ran out of bc pills and hadn't had time to get anymore and neglected to tell me. I was super pissed but i'm not the kind of guy that believes in abortion. I believe in the right to do it -just not in my right to tell someone to do it.
Anyway a friend of ours comes forward and tells me that my girlfriend had talked to her about having a kid and she was bummed because she knew that i didn't want anymore. We had talked about it and i had told her that if she wanted kids she needed to find somebody else. She said that she understood. At least i thought she did. Didn't take me long to see that this had probably been planned. I decided to stick with her because i don't run away from stuff but i also decided to take matters into my own hands.
I went and saw a urologist and had a vasectomy.I didn't tell her about it until i came home, balls all swollen and went straigtht to bed. Needless to say, she wasn't happy. I explained how i wasn't happy about being a father again and i was gonna make damn sure it didn't happen again. Anyway, we had a beautiful baby girl that i love more than anything in the world.
Of course things didn't work out with her mom. Magically, she ended up pregnant again about half a year ago. The first thing i did was see a doctor who confirmed that i was still shooting blanks. The second thing i did was go home and dump her ass.
the moral of the story is men should be responsible for their actions but women are not always innocent. It's a lot easier to get fucked over by a woman that you've known for a long time than it is on one on a one night stand. Either way, put yourself first and don't take a chance. Wear a condom or get your nuts cut. It didn't hurt that bad. I was in the gym the next day.

I find it a disturbing trend, that so many women when confronted with this issue are quick to say

1. Get a vesectomy- which is pretty much irreversible
2. Get your nuts clipped.

There are also other similar statements said and they are very disturbing and show the inherent lack of respect people like Oprah, Rosie and Organizations like NOW have perpetuated toward the male.

There is always talk about the physical torture women go through when pregnant, well guess what, most of that torture is in their head. The female body was DESIGNED to carry life. Let's stop with the stupid femenist crap, and let's stop crying for recognition for things we are supposed to do.

In the pregnancy cases the female is just as much to blame as the male, if she is not wise enough to choose a partner that will provide or does not want to get pregnant let her have her tubes tied, at least that is reversible.
Another thing to all the women that say keep it in your pants, Man yould keep it in their pants if the ladies kept their legs closed, simple as that, and here is a news flash, both genders enjoy sex strictly for pleasure only and don't want kids.

Sincerely

:elephant:

That is interesting. Is there new research that I don't know about which shows that *most* of the physical symptoms and pain pregnant women are just 'in their head'?

You mean in a period of about 9 months, pregnant women imagine their hormones to be out of whack causing all kinds of havoc on their bodies? You mean they imagine morning sickness, intermittent nausea, and fatigue? You mean they imagine feeling like they have to go to the bathroom every 10 mins because their uterus is imaginarily pressing up against their baldder? You mean they are only imagining that their breasts feel like they are going to explode in pain and their back feels like it's breaking because they are carrying imaginary extra weight on their bellies now? You mean it really does not hurt when something that is 4x the size of their vagina cavity is pushing their way out of her body? Should I continue? Whether women's bodies are designed to carry babies or not not exclude the agony that goes along with that privilege. IMO, making a statement like that just makes you sound like an angry man making false and inaccurate accusations.

Agreed. This is the reason why both of them should shoulder the responsibilities of everything that comes along with that. Any recognition of parental duties is better than none at all, and if they're gonna bitch and moan about it, at least don't ever let the child hear about it.

That's all....

Sweetie give it up, the way you described pregnancy with breasts exploding and backs breaking and all the sicknesses is a sorry attempt coined by femenists to make the male sensitive to women issues and their ability to "carry life". Give me a break, being pregnant is a good thing, many women i know of consider this the bast time of their lives, they actually feel great, sure there may be some aches and pains here and there but the overall experience is very gratifying and memorable, so stop trying to make it sound like you are god knows what since you can get pregnant.

While it may not be 'torture' depending on how well your body handles everything that is going on, my point is simply that you were out of line to dismiss the very real and physical symptoms of pregnancy as something that is 'all in her head'. That statements was typical of something a male chauvinist would say.

By the way, what I said was that they feel like they are going to explode in pain. That would be pretty gruesome if they actually exploded.

Just kidding, look why is using a word like sweetie have to be condesending, why can't it be a compliment. Some people will always see things in a bad light, given a choice on how to take something.

When it comes to pregnancy!!!! Currently this girl I work with is in a situation where her boyfriend impregnated a girl on a one night stand while he was intoxicated now she is suing him for child support after he told her he did not want the baby and would help her to put it up for adoption/abortion whatever the case may be. She instead has this kid and is using it to trap him into paying half of his wages to upkeep this lil bastard child. She also has a friend that got pregnant and the guy that got her pregnant PAID HER THE MONEY to have a abortion and she instead went out and spent it on drinking and drugging and then didn't have money to have the abortion now here is the kicker, she has the kid and is now SUING HIM FOR CHILD SUPPORT for the kid that should have never been born. I think the whole legal system regarding child support is so fucked up its beyond control, it takes two people to make a baby but the women get all the say in the matter no matter if we want to have the child or not. We have NO RIGHTS when it comes to this we either pay or get put in prison I think its one of the biggest loads of shit of all time. I know some people out there are in this situation or have to agree with me on this. Personally if a bitch trys that with me its the "right hook abortion clinic" or I will just tell her straight up "listen sweetheart, i don't want this kid and I won't pay for him" if you try and trap me in this I will just let you know this much. "YOU CAN"T COLLECT YOUR CHILD SUPPORT IN HELL" =).

Drizz

I agree with you. America should be with stuck with more coinservative BIBLICAL laws about women!

Since Holy Bible is holy, lets see what rules it sets about women!
Everyonbe read this!!!

Paul explains that "the natural use" of women is to act as sexual objects for the
pleasure of men. Rom.1:27

Paul says "the head of the woman is the man," meaning that the women are to be
subordinate to men. 1 Cor.11:3

Paul orders wives to submit themselves to their husbands "in every thing" as though
they were gods. "For the husband is the head of the wife." Eph.5:22-24

Paul forbids women to teach or "to usurp authority over" men. Rather they are to
"learn [from men] in silence with all subjection [to men]." 1 Tim.2:11-12

Men are superior to women in Paul's eyes, since Adam was made before, and sinned
after, Eve. But even though women are inferior to men, Paul says they shouldn't be
discouraged because they shall "be saved in childbearing." 1 Tim.2:14-15

Peter describes Lot, who in Gen.19:8 offers his two virgin daughters to a crowd of
angels and later (19:30-38) impregnates them, as a "righteous man." 2 Pet.2:8
\And when you are done with women:

What should you do when you see a chick? The bible has an answer!!!

"And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite ... and he took her, and went
in unto her. And she conceived, and bare a son; and she called his name Er. And she
conceived again [I guess Judah must have went in unto her again] and bare a son; and
she called his name Onan." Genesis 38:2-4

Abandon your wife and children for Jesus and he'll give your a big reward. Mt.19:29,
Mk.10:29

Now if this were the rules, the world would rock!!! YEH!!!!

No I am not attacking your statements. I am just pointing out the fact that I feel as though he is stemming from a realist's point of view. No offense. Perhaps you should read some of his other posts....they are quite informative. I guess (some) men have different ways of expressing themselves.

It is only condescending if you let yourself take it too personally. This just shows me how very differently men and women are whilst debating...men will curse and let hell rip and women will try to keep things clean without getting personal...LOL

I am not a chauvinist, i am a realist just like Bunnymt said. I am sorry that when reality is spoken by a male it comes across as chauvinistic. I have no regards for people who want extra credit for things in life they are SUPPOSED to do. Re-read my post about the joys of pregnancy experienced by some women despite some aches and pains. Those are women i respect, they do not cry, "look i am a woman and i am pregnant, kiss my feet for all the torture i am going through", please give me a break. Women i respect are those whom take the time of pregnancy as a blessing and a time of joy for the things to come and could care less about crying for recognition because of their torture.

Recognition, everyone wants it but few can actually earn it.

As it should be. Unless you hate the man that got you pregnant, got raped or other undesirable events took place.

what were we talking about again? I think I'm getting old.

Ok, buddy, I thought this thread about women who had unplanned pregnancies? They are the ones who will likely have a less 'easy' pregnancy than those women who embrace and are grateful for their pregnancy. My personal opinion is that pregnancy should be a happy, wonderful and joyous experience, but it isn't realistic to expect that all women who have unexpected pregnancies to turn their resentment into joy.

(btw, 'buddy' was meant as an affectionate term). :D

If it is so painful then why would a woman want to keep herself in this situation.

If the woman is unhappy-why keep the child in a broken home so that all three parties will stay bitter and hateful.

This is a completely irresponsible decision the woman makes. Not considering the childs mental health.
Let's say that for some reason, religious, personal, medical, she was precluded from having an abortion, and she was planning to give the kid up for adoption. Now, let's bring in the human factor. A woman carries a child in her body for an extended period of time, it becomes a part of her, she starts to feel love for this child and starts to think that she will do everything she can to keep her child with her, the biological mother. Funny how human emotions can easily cloud logical judgement.

Smalls, I am tired too....soo very tired....

Why don't we just stop having babies all together:mix: ;) ;)

If you want a child, AWESOME- there are thousands of starving and abandoned childen in the world who need parents.

As for childbirth being easy BWAHAHAH!!! Before medical science, 1 in 4 women would die form something due to childbirth...

the call... if it is like this in other cities.. this county is as good as gone.

Lets put it this way... what I just found out.. is somthing that will for sure haunt me everytime I see the word Atlanta.

I wish I could talk more about it.. but this is my job.. and I do not want to loose it.

I know what you mean. This world can be a scary place... I've found out alarming information before too, and I wish I never found out about it.
