me ~ 3 years of being off the weights and 0 excercise

I'd say do like 10-20 minutes of cardio prework get yourself nice and warmed up, then do your workout.

but I'm no guru nor am I an expert.

Thank you canadian.. A nice fellow on this board put together a nice routine for me which I am 7 days into.. I still have most of my muscle from my previous lifting, just not much of the strength. I am doing 5x5-8 to failure hitting every body part over 5 days, 6 day cardio and rest and starting the routine over on the 7th day..

I have changed my diet, cut soda completely, cut pastries and McD's for breakfast, and double bacon cheesburgers from 5 guys famous burgers for lunch and have myself on a pretty good diet. I am pounding protein.. I usually do cardio after my work out though because I want every ouce of strength pushing that iron, running is not hard for me.

ps.. I will be posting some pics once I see change worthy of a pic.. :)

Call me crazy, and I know some here will disagree with me, but being a fatty myself.. not so fat fatty anymore.. I'm a total advocate of putting on muscle first then burning the fat..

one of three reasons, I think it's alot easier to put muscle on when you're fatter, your fat gives you more energy believe it or not.

two the more muscle you have on your body the easier it is to burn fat, like waay easier, speeds your metabolism up etc etc.

Three: If you're just like going hardcore burning fat to slim down, I think you'll burn alot of muscle too, and I think in the end that will make things difficult instead of easier.

I know everyone just wants to lose the fat first then go for the muscle, but do you want to be big and muscular or slim?? just my two cents from a Friendly Canuck.

makes sense.

I disagree, had much more energy after losing 50 lbs than while I was bigger.

Well I don't mean like overall daily energy, I mean during a workout when you're entirely drained you get more energy from your fatstores which is largely why alot of powerlifts tend to keep on an extra 10-20 lbs for the extra energy.

Hi!!! Ok, yay you for putting up your pictures. That is an awesome move in the right direction. It means you aren't lying to yourself or anyone else here about the work ahead of you to get to your fitness goals!

My own pics disturb me so freaking bad when I put them up that there is just no way that I CAN"T succeed.

Have fun getting ripped! Its so much fun having muscles. I know you've had them before so you know how great you'll feel.

Take care,
Molly

OMGosh! Me too! But now that I am still at about 30% bodyfat as the original poster looks to be, adding muscles to what he already has will really help him burn more fat easier, right?

Well, it's helping me at least.

WTG on losing 50 pounds though. That is quiet a feat.

I am going to disagree with this. When you have dieted down your body will be far more anabolic to build the muscle after. If you already have a lot of fat on you , your body will tend to keep storing fat while bulking rather then being the anabolic sponge.

If anyone has ever done a show they will completely agree with this that once they get back into the bulking from contest season they become a sponge and have th best gains.

Also your energy will be better when you are not carrying the extra 40lbs of fat.
