Loosing muscle while jogging ?????

I do cardio style workout....high reps, compound movement, light weight, little rest....beats running and tearing up your knees and kicks your heart rate into orbit

Once your body gets a bit above 100 degrees (Im not sure how much in Celcious) The Protein in body begins to break down and your obdy literally begins to cook. I would suggest were as little clothing as possible and go for a long walk on a windy day or at night, or better yet do some laps of your local pool.

Is it true that I can loose muscle while jogging? I'm just trying to loose a little weight and get toned?tnx

I concur with most here. If you want to maintain the muscle keep the cardio < 20 min and crank up the intensity. A good workout is 4-6 100m sprints at 90% effort with about 2 min rest in between.

If you're burning more calories than you're taking in, then chances are you might be losing muscle to a certain degree along with the fat / water.

Jogging is catabolic - period. Not to mention very hard on your joints. Unless your goal is to be an endurance athlete (one that competes in marathons, etc) you don't EVER need to run anywhere, that is unless you want to. ;)

Too much cardio is not only catabolic but will actually put your body into a mode where your resting metabolic rate will actually decline (as you lose muscle) thus causing you to increase the amount/intensity of cardio required to maintain your current bf and the negative downward skinnyfat spiral begins...

Ever seen a fat aerobics/spin instructor? I've seen plenty. If they are doing all those hours of intense cardio a week then you would think they'd all be stick figures. Right?

Fact is that more lean mass = higher resting metabolic rate. Incidentally, the time when your body burns most of its calories from fat is when you are ASLEEP as your body "knows" no food will be coming in during these hours so it taps into it's energy reserves (read = fat). So the more lean mass you have, the more calories your body will burn regardless of the activity.

And guys, just because you may not catabolize muscle as quickly as women that does not mean that our bodies will also behave similarly. You have waaaaaaaaaaay more testosterone than we do. We have a wholelotta estrogen. One builds and supports lean mass, while the other helps the body to store fat in the event of a pregnancy/lactation.

My advice to the poster is to head over to the women's forum where the ladies will be able to better guide you. Not that the guys over here aren't trying their best. :)

Oh yea - and guys as your test levels decline with age - don't worry, you will be in the same boat.
