Loosing muscle while jogging ?????

Is it true that I can loose muscle while jogging? I'm just trying to loose a little weight and get toned?tnx

Excessive aerobic exercise (>30 mins) is bad for maintaining muscle mass. Keep cardio short and intense.

I always keep heart rate around 170-180 for 15-20 mins. Leans me up way faster than 30 mins slower paced. Keeps my strength much better as well when cutting.

It is thought that the best cardio for using fat as a substrate in your body is

1. Early morning fasted
2. Low intensity (walking)
3. More than 30 min
4. Some coffee or OTC fat burners with caffeine
5. Few BCAAs to protect against muscle catabolism
6. Some have recommended a small protein shake, jury is out on this one
7. Some recommend tiny bit of carbs like orange/grapefruit juice, again you would have to experiment

You will adapt to this, so switching it with HIIT is a good idea.

so sweating on the treadmill for 40 minutes and then lifting is no good if i want to loose weight and tone up???

lift first then do 15-20 mins of HIIT.

HIIT = high intensity interval training. basically, you alternate between high & low paced cardio. there are lots of ways to do it - most common would be something like 1 minute high intensity, 1 minute low intensity. choose any form of cardio you like - treadmill and cycle are the most obvious choices. actual cycling and jogging/sprinting is obviously better if you can do it. do it for a total of 15-20 mins 3-4 times a week.

well, speaking for myself personally, I can say the notion which says cardio makes you lose muscle is bullshit. I'm heavy endo, so if I want to lose fat, I can't starve it off or "just decrease calories". There is a limit to how much you can limit calories before you shut the metabolism down or lose needed nourishment.

You have 2 options:

1. do the cardio and get to the desired bodyfat percentage.
2. listen to all the bullshit about x, y, z, loses muscle and be stuck in a body composition limbo because of it.

Work hard and get to where you want to be.. Good luck.
